First off, this hike is hard. By hard I mean using ropes, crawling on all fours, 45-degree grades, and 1000 foot sheer drop off hard. To get here, one must drive to Wai'anae and then take Wai'anae Valley Road to the end, where one will find a parking lot. From there it is about 1.5 miles of walking up a steep, concrete access road. The access road ends at Water Supply Pump House #2. After that, it is all dirt/mud until you reach the vertical portion at the end. The hike itself is beautiful and the view from the ridgeline are amazing. However, the grade never gets easier. You will be stymied by the vertical cliffs at the end unless you have rock climbing skills and equipment.

A top the mountains or anywhere above the ocean is a magnificent view. Hiking in Hawaii is one of my favorite things to do here. You never know what you may see... the birds and flowers and the scents of fruits! Not very touristy but a MUST if you go to Hawaii. This and many other hikes available FREE of charge and at many levels of hiking capabilities.

These mountains are so beautiful, and even more so if viewed from the water while kayaking or snorkeling off the Waianae Coast.

Very pretty - on the west side it's drier and looks a little barren - on the west side it is greener.

I'm in love with this mountains. Because they are on dry side of island, they are not totally covered with vegetation, so they look very different from the ones on Koolau range. You can see the rock formation, and the view changes through out the day depending on how the light reflects on them. So when you are at the beach in Waianae you get beautiful beach and mountains views to relax.

Scenic mountain range that separates the leeward coast of Oahu from the central valley. Nice views as I hiked the Pu'u O Hulu Trail near the town of Maili

WE stayed at a house in Makaha Valley which is near the mountains. Just spectacular views with the ocean very close.
