...seemed dry, but then again what do I know about bamboo except that Sĩ says I should listen to its song when I'm in a forest of it. I didn't hear anything here that day. I came with Rosalie a couple of weeks ago. She's very sweet, and I was glad I got to spend a few hours with her. She did talk up a storm about everything, so I guess she had a lot to say that day. Glad I was there to listen. She surprised me by sitting down on a bench real quick soon after we arrived. No worries - I get it with older people getting tired quickly. I'll be there soon if not already. Anyway, she only stayed on the main path, and I explored a little on my own for 10 minutes or so. Kind of an overcast day so I don't think we got the full effect of the place's beauty. I guess the only thing I found particularly striking was the Mindanao Gum Tree with it's incredible streaks of color along the trunk that are so beautiful . It makes me think of Joyce Kilmer's celebrated poem. He could have been comparing this tree with the review I'm writing right now. I got to come back here sometime soon to see the rest of the place. Hey, Rosalie and I picked-up some burgers and fries at Teddy's afterwards and then spent a nice hour or so at Grace and Dung's place. Coconut got a little bit of mine. It was nice going somewhere not alone.

One of the 5 Honolulu Botanical Gardens, parking at and admission to this 27-acre “tropical jewel” in the town of Wahiawā is free. You can download a self-guided tour of the garden’s main terrace but downloading a free plant identification app could greatly enhance your experience. It only takes about 30 minutes to walk through the main terrace but that is only a portion of the entire botanical garden; see the map of the entire site if you have the time and interest.

The Wahiawa Botanical Garden is a relaxing, peaceful oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city. There is two levels in the garden. The upper has paved walkways. The lower level is walking on uneven dirt and paths. It is easy to spend a couple if hours here.

We stopped to spend a few hours exploring the gardens. There were quite a few cars in the lot and a good number of people in the entry area to the grounds. There used to be no charge but they take donations for upkeep. There used to be an online digital map you can access otherwise there are paper naps available at the entry area. There are a lot of trails throughout and basically two specific areas… the top paved trails with marked pants and trees and a lower area that has rugged trails and is not as kept up. We went on the side of being adventurous and hit trails in both areas. The bottom is quite rugged and can be muddy when wet and trails didn’t seem real well marked, but we found our way around and enjoyed both the walking and the experience. Nice free gardens to explore.

Hidden away down a side road, in the middle of O'ahu, is this beautiful botanical garden. It's verdant, green and shady, cool even in the heat. There are all types of plants and trees here, including the storied rainbow eucalyptus. It's a great spot for a quiet stroll or a picnic lunch. Some inquisitive chickens will probably introduce themselves, too. And best of all? It's free!

I visited here with my father in law who just had a health issue few weeks ago.
I wanted to make sure that he is capable to walk safely with a walker.
Not all the park is flat but main area was flat enough for him to walk around.
For him, it was first time walk outside of his house and he seemed very happy being around the nature.
Ill recommend you for sure this place is peacefully and beautiful place.

in waikiki for 3 weeks and we like to get out and explore. drove along the #750 highway, " kunia rd." and after a great stop at kohanna rum distilleries we came along here which had been our destination. free admission. handy parking. 27 acres of a garden and forested ravine, on a high plateau in central oahu, cradled between the wai'anae and ko'olau mountain ranges, dates back to the 1920-30's when the land was used by sugar planters for experiments. it is a haven for flora requiring a cooler climate. the emphasis is on native hawaiian plants. it had been a wet week and the area was a bit muddy. there were sections taped off so we didn't get to see it all. a peaceful, small spot. very much a jungle feeling, must require a lot of work to keep it managed. happy to have seen another of honolulu's 5 botanical gardens. 2 more to see!

This was our final stop in Hawaii before heading to the airport. We were driving back from the north shore. This is a small botanical garden located in a residential area. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and they weren't busy. They keep it up very nice. They might have had maps of the gardens at the front. I wish we had picked up a map so we could have made sure to see everything. If it's a beautiful day this would be a very nice place to spend some time together and just enjoy nature around you. You can't beat the admission price either-it's free.

This is a calm and cooler temperature location. There is a brochure that tells about the variety of plants and trees. It's a small sized location, with an optional path down the hill. Easy walk on the upper part of the garden, steeper climb up and down to the ravine area. It's free entry and parking, in a quiet neighborhood. If you're going to or from the North Shore this is a convenient stop.

The Wahiawa Botanical Garden is a great place to see a tropical forest without the crowds at tourist traps. There is no entry fee, and there are no gift shops or concession stands. The setting is very beautiful and serene with colorful flowers and gigantic trees from Hawaii and other tropical areas.

The gardens have an upper terrace that is level and wheelchair/stroller accessible. There are benches for resting and grassy areas for kids to burn off energy. There are several trails that lead to a ravine and dry riverbed below. These trails are steep and not recommended for those with mobility issues. The riverbed is also very rocky. Even if you don’t go down to the ravine, you will still be able to see some of the forest from vantage points in the upper terrace. The lower portion of the garden is “wilder” than the upper portion.

Tips: Cover up or bring mosquito repellent. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring your own snacks. There is an information booth at the entrance, but it wasn’t manned on our last two visits. Brochures are set out on the counter. Restrooms are very clean.
