Bought the family here to go on the Sunset Horseback Ride My son loved the petting zoo and the horse back riding since he just turned 7. He was having a great time and loving every minute of it.
Excellent guide at a good, leisurely pace. Well worth the drive to the North Shore where you can experience paradise on a horse!

First of all I just want to say that Kali and Drew were incredible tour guides, and kept the entire time we spent together interesting and fun with great conversation, knowledge of the ranch and it’s history as well as having a great personality. I grew up riding, but this was my first advanced ride here and it was nothing short of 5 stars. We toured the entire ranch high and low, doing some real fun stretches of trot and canter. If you’re relatively knew to riding, you can also rely on these guys knowledge to guide you and teach you as they are great teachers. Thank again Kali and Drew!

Wife, husband and 7 and 9 year old kids enjoyed a one hour stroll through the Kahuku area. Not a high mountain experience. Simple walk in a big loop with an ocean view and place for a picture towards the end. The staff were professional and down-to-earth kind people. Horses were well behaved and it was a safe and memorable day. Our 7 year old loved his horse and was talking about it all day. Our 9 year old wished the horse would run a little to make it more exciting. A perfect horse introduction.

We live on Oahu and have heard great things about Gunstock Ranch for many years but never had the time to go. We recently drove out top the ranch for a day not to be forgotten. We had the pleasure of riding Buckles the horse and Kali taught us all about ranch life. Buckles was the perfect first time horse for my son, and Kali was a wealth of information. She had a magical way of connecting with my creative boy. After we got to feed our horse some treats and brush him for a ride well done. However the fun didn't end there. while we could have eaten lunch on the beautiful property, we opted instead to feed the animals in the petting zoo. These animals were clean, kind and sweet. You could tell they are loved and well cared for. We spent a good hour feeding and petting the babies and adults. There were goats and lambs; tons of fun! The staff was friendly, engaging and actively sanitizing while we were there. We already scheduled our next visit!

We live on Oahu and decided to take advantage of all the great things our island has to offer this summer, Gunstock Ranch is one. This is our 3rd or 4th time booking a ride and we plan on making it an annual event. We usually book the sunset ride. Everyone was friendly and very laid back. I would highly recommend booking a tour if you visit our island or currently live here. No experience necessary.

My girlfriend and I went to the Gunstock Ranch on Valentines Day for the UTV sunset dinner package and had the BEST Valentines we both had ever had.
First, the experience. Upon arriving, you’re greeted by incredibly friendly staff who get you signed in. Off to the side, we noticed a petting zoo and a small area with PUPPIES. We arrived a little early so we’re able to play with the cutest most friendly puppies and say hello to the goats, sheep, and one cow at the petting zoo. Great start. Eventually our name was called and we loaded into a large UTV with Haden, our amazing guide. He gave us a tour of the ranch, all while showing us amazing views, taking our photos, picking fresh guava and lilikoi for us to eat. He told us about the native plants, the history of the ranch, various fun facts, and just generally keeping us entertained throughout our ride. Not that we needed extra entertainment as the ride itself was very fun, but it was more than welcome. The ride itself almost felt like a real life Jurassic Park amusement ride. We were safely strapped in to the UTV and would zoom through the paths, surrounded by beautiful greenery and native plants. We felt safe the whole time, but also had the thrill of a fast ride. Haden even showed us a natural cave that had formed. There were multiple moments where we stopped and were able to get out, take pictures, walk around. To us, this was much better than the horses option, but we still heard people loved that experience as well. At the top of the mountain with the most beautiful view, we had dinner waiting for us and a lovely campfire for s’mores. We enjoyed our dinner before a quick ride back down the mountain before the sun was fully gone.
Second, our guide. Haden was truly an amazing, friendly, and just all around awesome guy. From the very beginning he was kind and informative, offering to take our pictures, show us his favorite views, and pick us fresh fruit to try. He had tons of fun facts and funny sorties about the ranch that truly helped make the experience even better. When we arrived at the top of the mountain, he patiently waited out of ear shot and eye sight for us to finish before taking us back down. He willingly and thoughtfully answered any questions we had. If you ever do the UTV experience, request Haden!!
Overall, we had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back. We’ll be recommending this to all our friends and family.

We took our Pony Club members to Gunstock Ranch as a field trip in order to give them a cross-disciplinary experience. They went on the Advanced Trail Ride, as they are all experienced English riders. The kids had a great time with their "wrangler", Paige. She not only led them on a beautiful trail ride above Malekahana, Paige gave them some history about the land, etc. The kids came back happy, having had the opportunity to canter on the trail, in Western saddles- different than how they are used to riding. I'm certain that the regular trail rides, for less experienced riders, are just as beautiful! They also had fun playing with the baby goats. :)

I decided to surprise my wife for our two year anniversary with their couples horse back tour. Even though we've lived on the island for a good bit we haven't been able to experience much. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was overall presently surprised with the experience. Not only was out guide (Mckenzie) the sweetest person I've met, she was very knowledgeable about the land, the history and the agriculture around the area. It was a joy to talk with her along the ride. The horses were sweet, calm and well cared for and the views were amazing. Defiantly recommend anyone looking for something a little "different" to try this out.
We plan on coming back again, especially when family visits and couldn't have had a better experience!

I brought my 3yo and 6yo to Gunstock Ranch. The 3yo was very hesitant but the friendly guide charmed him and he was up on his pony Sugar in short order. The two kids had a great bonding experience. Now, their plush toys are being renamed Sugar and Button across the board. Thanks!

Friendly crew and beautiful scenic ride. Interactive the whole ride and have close personal attention to everyone in the group from my 7 year old daughter (which made me feel safe as this was her first solo ride) to my mom who went as well. Highly recommended!

Typically, horsemanship refers more to the care of horses, rather than just riding. If you feel your child has the attention span to listen to the wrangler about how to pick hooves, groom, etc., it can be a fun way to learn about horses, as well as do a little guided riding. If they just want to ride, I would recommend the Pony Ride, as it is less informational and less expensive. I also agree with the comment above, regarding payment for the parent rider.

For most rides the minimum age is 7. Riders between the ages of 2-6 are led on a horse or ponied for a 30 minute experience. We have 8 different rides to choose from - Pony ride for kids, walking only, advanced, and private rides ranging from 45 to 179.

Currently there are no options for shuttles from the Polynesian Cultural Center. The city bus is the best option. There is a bus stop just before our entrance (Malaekahana State Park) and one just past our entrance (traveling north). Either stop works.

We do not currently have transportation. However if you want to come out we suggest renting a car and making a day of it :) You can either ride with us in the morning and enjoy the Polynesian Cultural Center that opens at 1pm or you could drive and enjoy the North Shore. As someone that grew up here you will really miss what Oahu has to offer if you don't take time to enjoy this side of the island. The beauty is unmatched and totally worth the money to rent a car. The city bus is another option just be aware it will take about 2 hours to get to us and get back. Spending time at the Polynesian Cultural Center and spending the day in Laie is the best plan if you choose The Bus.
