This is not an easy hike and the wetter it gets the harder it can become. However it is not a major tourist hike and you will be able to enjoy some isolated hiking. With that said, the views are great but you need to be prepared so you can enjoy the hike. You should have water, mosquito repellant, towels,... More

The Maunawili Falls is very muddy when there are light showers. It is muddy and dangerous. If you go when it rains off and on make sure you wear dependable shoes. My friend wore flip flops. Her shoe broke and she had to track the rest of the way down bare foot. The only reason I went was because I... More

I have hiked several trails before nothing prepared me for this hike. We went early morning around 8am. The trail was empty and I often questioned if we were on the trail. We considered turning around twice. We kept going forward. Finally found man made steps. Be prepared for an unpaved, muddy trail. Crossed rocky rivers three times. Feet were... More

We just hiked it and we were not prepared. I read all of the reviews and still underestimated how bad it is. The biggest problem was we didn't wear tennis shoes to throw away. We ended up barefoot hiking it. It's definitely worth it once you arrive at the waterfall. Just make sure you leave yourself enough time to get... More

Beautiful rain forest very difficult hike lots of mud be ready to fall and be covered in mud. I stayed out of the worst of the mud using the branches on the sides to keep from falling. I went with two older children and we made it about 1/2 way took an hour then we turned around and headed home.... More

My husband , daughter and I did this hike. We got lost a couple times but we survived and finally made it. Muddy as heck so wear shoes that can be thrown in the wash. Hint, use the vines and trees to hug onto as you venture through and around the mud holes. It may save you a slip or... More

First have to declare we did not make it to the falls. The trail was solid mud, up to our ankles, and we were not prepared. After 45 minutes and making only a 1/4 mile of the 1.5 mile trail, we turned back. Talked to a few experts who assured us it is beautiful and totally worth it, but you... More

When we did this walk there was a warning at the start of the trail about a bacterial infection, so we were not keen on actually swimming in it although plenty of people were. leptospirosis can turn innocent cuts nasty infections though. The sign to the trail is very unofficial, so we missed it and stayed on the road too... More
