My husband and I did Dave’s 3 hour China man’s hat kayak and hat tour. It exceeded expectations in every way. Dave is a professional kayaker and really knew the best way to approach the island for maximum safety and fun. The hike was a bit more difficult than we anticipated, but Dave knew the best hidden trails and the best technique to summit. During the whole trip he talked about Hawaiian history with great stories. We culminated the hike with a swim on the back side, including a very cool blow hole. I would highly recommend any of Dave’s tours. He is a local and provided us lots of other great tips. This was the highlight of our trip

Absolutely fantastic! We did a great Kayak with Boogie D back in 2014 and were keen to tackle another adventure, Dave delivered in spades. This time we did the three hour Chinaman's hat tour. THe kayak trip was smooth, starting out at 7am was a great way to beat the wind. I was a bit apprehensive about actual climb (we are in our 60s) but Dave and his mate D Wash made it a breeze. Dave is very competent and has a great easy charm as he explains features and history of the area. Walking around the island was also great, with the opportunity for a swim. Highly recommended and we will be back with Dave next trip

Wow, what a great kayak tour! We read the great reviews before booking, and they were absolutely accurate! David is a full service, knowledgeable guide, providing everything needed... kayaks, life jackets and his expertise throughout the tour. We had great communication with David through the whole process including simple booking, information about what to expect, and clear text messages about where to meet. Once we finally met up, David was like a long lost pal, showing us how to use the kayaks, and willing to go at whatever pace suited us. Throughout the tour, he shared information and stories about the area and the wildlife around us. It was so much better to have someone guide us rather than just getting in kayaks and being on our own. Thank you David and Catherine for your hospitality and we hope to be back again!

We did the kayaking / BBQ on beach tour and although a bit worried about high waves, Dave was reassuring while coaching and guiding. He is also a local in Haleiwa and incredibly knowledgable about the area and Hawaiian history. It was relaxing and enjoyable. The BBQ on the beach was delicious and such a unique way to enjoy the beach and sunset. We were celebrating a birthday and Kat had made a special surprise lilikoi pie (absolutely delicious!). Dave and Kat made us feel very welcomed and part of their ohana. It was an incredibly personal, local Hawaiian experience not to be missed.

David is the best. His awareness for our safety in the water and on the hike was much appreciated. Given our little experience hiking, we were so happy to make it to the top of Mokoli'i. And the hike to the back of the island was a bonus. The beach & reef was beautiful. We also enjoyed the cultural knowledge of the area and the islands that he shared. Mahalo!!

This was amazing! It was just us (3 of us) and our personal guide, David, which is how the tours are for everyone. Katherine set up the tour, making sure to ask all the right questions regarding our kayak experience level. We made the reservation with very short notice and limited location and time so we went with the Haleiwa tour. David made the atmosphere warm as he is very engaging and knowledgeable. Probably not that common, but there was a pod of whales really close to us in the bay! It was so wonderful! We were very close! David was a great guide, and I would definitely go with his company again!

My family never kayaked before and my husband is like a cat in water. He had open heart surgery a few years ago and was concerned about his improving but still relatively weak shoulders. I looked for a tour that provided some water safety/ paddling instruction for beginners; education about the local ecosystem and history; a personal guide for just my family; someone who would transport the kayaks to the water so my husband wouldn't have to; backrests for the kayaks; restrooms/showers at the beach; and a tour operator who would answer my questions in advance in a timely manner via email. David and his wife were very helpful and made suggestions based on our combined physical abilities, interests and ages (3 young adult males and 2 parents in their 60's.
I penciled in a rain date after booking our original date earlier in our stay for more flexibility. We settled on the 3-hour tour of Chinaman's Hat for a combination of paddling, serious climbing to the peak, and a second easy hike for water fun and tide pools on the other side of the island. It was a bit windy during the beginning of October and for that reason we had an early start at 7 am when the water was calmer.
I really appreciated David's granola bars and cold drinks for snacks! He let us use his large dry bag for things like phones, ID's, etc. I'm glad that I wore water sandals (Keens) but also brought along socks and athletic shoes in a plastic bag that I didn't mind getting all dirty for the climb. I also wore old pants (over my swimsuit) as recommended for the few dirt runs that I slid down. Sunscreen, hat and cheap sunglasses (in case you get dunked) are a must. I also brought a small dry bag that folded over like a lunch bag and belted around my waist. It was so convenient that we parked beside the restroom near the beach so that we could shower out all the sand. We brought along beach towels and a change of clothes in our rental van.
Afterwards, we took David's suggestion to drive north to Kahuku Point for a terrific shrimp lunch plate at Giovanni's. We washed it down with cold freshly cut coconut juice! Thanks to David and Coastal Kayak Tours, we had a terrific morning and lunch.
That outing was among our favorite activities during our week in Oahu. Next time we're in Oahu, we'll experience a different tour of his on another part of the island. David is an affable, flexible, knowledgeable and most capable tour guide who has good communication and teaching skills, and relates well with others. I love supporting family-run businesses.

Thank you and Mahalo to David!

Our trip with Coastal Kayaking was awesome! I looked at many of the other kayaking tours on the island before booking but am so glad that we went with Coastal Kayaking because we were able to pick the location that we wanted and the group size is limited to the group you book, so you don't get stuck in a massive group of paddlers of various skill levels. The kayaks were quite nice and the cooler of snacks and drinks was well stocked.

Our guide David was extremely knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and local attractions and was just an interesting person to spend a few hours kayaking with. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking to do some kayaking in Oahu and would use them again if I make another trip to the island.

My wife and I did the 3 hour Haleiwa tour on July 9th. This was the first time we ever went kayaking and to top it off, my wife cannot swim. David was very patient with us though. My favorite thing about this company is that the tours are personal. You are not bunched up with another group. Will definitely do another tour next time I go.

My husband and myself went on a 7 hour kayak tour with Coastal Kayak and loved it. We paddled at our own pace, saw sea turtles, and even a whale. There were two breaks at the beach for snacks and lunch. We would definitely use them again!
