Uncle Bryan Suratt presents, Sunset Suratt Surf Academy. Located on the North Shore of Oahu, home of Hawaii's most famous surf spots, Uncle Bryan prides himself on having the best trained surf instructors in Hawaii. All of our instructors are pro-level surfers themselves. Our surf school develops skills for longboard, short board, and stand-up paddle surfing. We take 6-month-old babies and adults in their 70s out for their very first time! Our surf lessons are for all ages and all levels, we teach surfers from beginners to pros. Sunset Suratt Surf Academy's classrooms are in the ocean from Sunset beach to Pipeline to Haleiwa, for a safe, guided hands on experience in the world of surfing. My three year old son & my husband had an amazing time surfing for the first time with Chris and Kama. We got the tandem lesson with Zach & Kama was awesome! He took great care of our son Zach and made sure he had fun and made him feel safe. My son trusted Kama the moment he saw him and they just rode a lot of waves together. Chris is an awesome instructor and helped my husband learn within minutes. He guided him every step of the way. I highly recommend doing a tandem surf lesson for little kids. Overall great experience & I highly recommend it.

We booked with Uncle Bryan on the recommendation of a friend. It was a great decision. We booked a 2-hour intro to surfing lesson for me (50+) and my two sons (18 and 16 yrs) as well as paddle-boarding for my wife and daughter (13 yrs). Uncle Bryan and his team were all on site when we arrived and were engaging, enthusiastic and informative. I've tried surfing a couple of times in the past and never had much luck. Aina was an amazing instructor and the boys and I were all able to ride the waves almost immediately. My wife and daughter had a great time on the paddle boards with Kai, who made it fun and relaxing. Both instructors were patient, and clearly enjoyed what they do. Uncle Bryan's is an absolute must for anyone visiting the North Shore.

We tried surfing for the 1st time this past weekend and Aina, Garry and Liam truly made this the best experience. We discovered Uncle Bryan’s Sunset Surant from the Oahu Revealed book we ordered right before traveling and this book was perfect for all the things. We have a 6 and 8 y/o boys and were nervous with how they would do but Garry and Aina truly made the experience amazing. Garry really helped our 6 year old to build confidence and Aina worked with him also to get some great pictures at the end. Our 8 year old son surprised us and did such a great job. He also said it was the best highlight from Hawaii because of Aina’s guidance and also because Garry and Liam kept an eye on him after catching the wave. He didn’t fall once in our 2-hour lesson which really shocked us. They truly worked as a team to keep us all comfortable which made it perfect so my husband and I could also learn and also enjoy our 1st experience. We also decided to have it all captured by Life thru the Lens photography and Liam did an wonderful job with capturing our experience individually. Because of all of them we had an amazing time and will have these memories for a life time. If we ever have the opportunity to visit the island again we would definitely surf with them again and recommend them to anyone😊.

If you’re looking for an authentic North Shore surf school run by local Hawaiians, you have to choose Uncle Bryan. I’ve been to many surf schools on my trips to the islands over the years and this is by far the best. What was supposed to be a one time lesson turned into coming every day of my trip. My instructor Aina was amazing. You could tell he controls the lineup and he makes it so easy, every person in the group was standing and surfing all day. He’s so good he had me up catching waves and surfing on my own by the second day. I can’t recommend this school enough.

Surf lessons from Uncle Bryan's Surf School are a must-do in my opinion. I read several reviews of different companies prior to booking with Uncle Bryan, but I'm so glad we went with them. They provide everything you need (board, leash, and long sleeve rash guard). Our instructor, Chris, was amazing! He surfs competitively, and really knows what he is talking about. Also, he's an excellent teacher, and he got both of us standing in no time (my wife and I had never surfed before). I'd strongly recommend the photo package as well. It is definitely worth the price! I would highly recommend Uncle Bryan's Surf School to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience on Oahu's North Shore!

I can’t say enough about Uncle Bryan’s surf lessons. Chris was our instructor. He was amazing. He kept things simple, gave great advice/tips out in the ocean to insure success for everyone. He was amazing! As much as we all loved the surfing, we loved Uncle Bryan even more! If you don’t take 15 minutes out of your visit to spend time talking to him, you will truly miss out. He is so authentic, lives and breathes the Ohana spirit you always hear about, and makes everyone feel so special. He is a true Hawaiian gem!!

Phenomenal experience. We surfed with Chris, who was attentive, skilled, encouraging, and flexible. He was positive and gave great instruction and made it so fun, and made it look/seem easy. The owner was onsite on Thanksgiving day, making sure all went well. One beginner and one intermediate surfer. Both very happy. The price was very reasonable for the amount of attention per surfer. Would enthusiastically recommend.

What a great time, though difficult too. 59 years old may be a bit late to start surfing, but I had a great time trying to learn. The instructors were very patient and very helpful, and very encouraging too. Aina led our group and really did a great job with myself and my 3 adult daughters. We really appreciated Fernando, the photographer, also, and were thrilled at his photos of us. Those keepsakes made the day even more fun and have provided us with many great laughs and great memories. I highly recommend Uncle Bryan's to anyone wanting to have a surf lesson on Oahu.

Let's just say I am trying to figure out how to get back to HI and surf again with Aina (our instructor) and UBSSSS! My wife and I had some prior surfing experience and this brought it all back. Great waves at Chun's reef, reasonable paddle out, much much less crowded and better crowd vibe than Waikiki, and Aina our self proclaimed "drill sergeant" was perfect. Direct instruction, no bull, and helped us with a push when needed and held back when appropriate. He was helpful in how to see and choose waves and stay in the right location for catching a wave and safely paddling back out. By the end of our second day we were catching wave after wave and the only thing holding (me) back was paddling fitness... I wish we could have said hello to Uncle Bryan, but there will be another chance for sure!

What an incredible experience! Crew and Kai were amazing instructors for my son and I as first timers and for my husband who had surfed before. Both instructors were very thoughtful of our experience level when picking waves and were also very encouraging. Kai consistently reminded me of what to do and where to go which really helped boost my confidence. Surfing is exhausting and both instructors helped toe us out to keep catching waves when we were tired of paddling. Crew stayed with our six year old son and made this experience the highlight of his trip. He said he’s quitting hockey and moving to Hawaii to surf everyday! We would recommend this company 100% and will book again when we return to Oahu.

Hello, my husband and daughters (11 and 8) would like to take a private group surfing lesson when we visit Oahu at the end of March. Are the waves on the North Shore in late March suitable for beginners to learn to surf?

Good evening
We are planning on being on Oahu in January.
My boys are teenage, 16 and 18, intermediate surfers who probably need a guide more than a learn to surf lesson
We are happy to pay for a couple of days
I am a good but not expert body boarder and my wife is a complete novice
Her and I could learn to to surf. It the boys require more
Are both requirements possible in January at the north shore?

I think the surf school is great and can accomodate different levels of skill easily. Ask them directly about the waves this time of year. I don't know what it's like in January. They are really knowledgeable and if you have no prior experience there you need local knowledge for sure. There's a huge variability in the local breaks. Good luck!

Hi Angela, we don't have specific packages as we try to keep our prices as reasonable as possible. Our group lessons are $80 each and our private group lessons are $100 each meaning we would keep your family in their own special group.
