Our rental house was right on Chun's Beach. We loved waking up to the surfers already out on the water and watching them catch a wave. We climbed down across the rocks toward the other beach and caught sea turtles napping.

Kids took surfing lessons here with Sea to Board. It is a nice beach to watch surfing our hang out in the sand. Surf is rough, beware. But worth a stop.

This is a great beach for learning to surf on the north shore. There is no parking lot but there is a little room for parking along the road (free). The beach is not marked so you need to find it using something like google maps. The reef is close in by the shore so you paddle out over the reef and the break is about 50 yards out from the shore. No facilities at this beach. Local surf companies teach surfing at this beach so if you have your own surf board you can just watch them for free and do what they are doing. Voila, free surf classes on the north shore. Bring your own surf board.

Terrible place to park your car and go to the beach. There are constant car robberies in broad daylight and especially at night. Not safe at all. Go at your own risk!

This is where my daughter did her surf lessons. It was not crowded at all and the waves were great for beginners. Not such a good swimming location though so I would go elsewhere if that is what you are looking for.

Small access point for this beach located on the North shore of Oahu. Not many amenities and parking is available.

We came across this place when we went to Uncle Bryan's Surf School. Very nice beach. Great for beginning surfers. Has lifeguard stations, but limited facilities (bathrooms, etc.) Nice to get away from the crowds in Waikiki.

I took my very first surf lesson here and was pleased with the pretty constant waves. However, the bottom was full of sharp rocks! I know if you land correctly it shouldn't be a problem, but it was fairly shallow and I couldn't avoid hitting/touching the bottom at times. I got pretty bad cuts on my foot. I can't imagine swimming would be too enjoyable in that either. The sand on the beach was nice and soft though! Free parking on the road.

The beach is great - actually felt like the sand was soft like fine sugar...hmmm.
Anyway, it's definitely a beach to check out while on the north shore.
When you opt for surfing lessons, chances are this is where you'll be instructed to meet.
There's alot of it going on here and it's fun to watch.
But there's definitely coral and it does not have feelings about you. :)
So listen to your instructors. A few people came out with some nasty cuts because they didn't listen.
It is a good sized beach with plenty of spots to stake out and chill if you're not surfing and just want to swim. But again. watch for the coral and the rocks.
Parking can get filled fast as it's all across the street - be careful crossing over.

Good spot for beginning surfers on certain, calmer days in the winter. Be careful going out without any guidance because the reef and rocks WILL hurt you if you are not falling flat and are not aware of where they are. Great surf spot, but keep little kids from going too far into the water.
