Can't rate the course because we didn't play after receiving the cold shoulder from the young man at the pro shop - It was obvious he had zero interest in talking to us about a round . . .""Can I help you? thinking about a round of golf today?" Well, that conversation was in my imagination because he couldn't tear himself away from talking to a co-worker. I don't believe he would have even spoken to us if I hadn't addressed him first. After this treatment, they might be willing to take your money, but we weren't willing to give it to them.

You can play the King Kamehameha course by paying a very high fee or buying the Kahili Mahalo ticket, which gives you 2 rounds at Kahili & one round at King Kamehameha. The way the math works, you basically get one free round at Kahili.
King Kam is kept up a little better than Kahili and well-manicured. The greens are also a lot better.
The views of Maalea Harbor and the ocean are gorgeous from up on the hill. This is a fun, challenging course, which also uses the terrain of the rolling hills very well. I would rather play this course than the ones at Kaanapali.

The building was designed for Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, but never built for them. It was modified and built for the clubhouse for the golf course. With a circle theme, there are round rooms and windows and classic Frank Lloyd Wright decorations. The first time I drove up I was afraid to go in and bother them, and just admired the building from the outside - it looks like a spaceship. The second trip we went in nervously, but a woman welcomed us, gave us a brochure describing the building, and told us to look around and enjoy ourselves. Most recently we returned with our kids and grandkids. They were planning a pirate-themed event in the dining room, and treated our grandkids to lots of candy and toys. We ate at the restaurant, which had great Hawaiian food, in a beautiful room.

We've played quite a few courses on our stay here: Kapalua, Wailea Blue, Gold and Emerald courses and then King Kamehameha. This course is truly stunning. The clubhouse was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Marilyn Monroe and reminds me of something from the Jetsons. The views are stunning and course itself is very challenging. I'd say out of the ones we played, Kapalua Plantation was hardest, then this one, then Emerald, Gold and Blue. Cart paths aren't consistent, so you ride through the fairway and rough as a spectator and there are some tricky angles on this course. We wanted to love this course, but the winds were 20-23mph during the entire round and it took a lot of the joy out of this otherwise beautiful course. We were told it's consistently this windy, so just know that going in and you'll be fine.

This is an exciting must for all Frank Lloyd Wright fans! FLLW designs are rare in the Hawaiian islands - I only know of this golf club and one private home on the Big Island. The structure was first conceived as a home for a couple in TX but was never built. Seems like @1999 this building was constructed and renovated in 2004.
Park in any spot not listed as a member space. Inside, the woodwork is exquisite and the etchings are all based in FLLW designs. The colorful geometric art glass pattern reminded me of the Coonley playhouse. The stained glass sky panel is reminiscent of the Susan Lawrence Dana house in Illinois. There are also designs from the SC Johnson wax building.
There is also a nice painting if Mr Wright painted by a local Maui artist who was born in Illinois by FLLW's home.
You can also enjoy some other works of art amid the decor. Highly recommended - I know little about golf but it looked like a beautiful golf course!

This is a private club but can be accessed by the general public in one of two ways: anybody can play for about $260 per round; and the club offers reciprocity to those who belong to other private Golf clubs, at the “bargain”rate of $209 per per round. So it is not cheap. It is however a wonderful golf course. For the most part the course is not difficult, and is in no way “tricked up.” What does make it a challenge are the greens, which are lightening fast. It Is very picturesque with beautiful views from almost every hole. What aso makes the course very challenging is that it is almost always very very windy. As the course goes back-and-forth along the side of a mountain, the trade winds are very strong, especially beginning in the afternoon. Whether you are playing with or against the wind, it is often a two to four club difference. In addition, it is not particularly pleasant to feel buffeted by the wind continuously. Nonmembers apparently are only offered afternoon slots, when the wind is at its peak, as presumably members prefer to play in the morning for a good reason. Having said all that, it is a lovely golf course and, where it not for the wind, we would have unequivocally loved the experience, in spite of the expense. The clubhouse itself is billed is having been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, which is a little bit of a deception, as it was based on plans for a residential house that was never built in California. The outside indeed looks very much like a Frank Lloyd Wright building, but the inside does not. So – use your own judgment: I hope I have given you a good idea of what to expect there.

Wonderful golf course on the volcano slopes. Well structured course with magnificent views. Uncrowded so very relaxing. Fascinating golf club house for a Frank Lloyd Wright design and wonderful staff in the pro shop and around the equipment. A very memorable experience

We have played a number of courses in Maui, including the Plantation course at Kapalua. This course ranks as the best yet for playability, scenery, layout, condition, value, and overall enjoyment. You need to know how to play into wind as half the holes go directly into it, the rest with it (which makes going for the par 5's in 2 a lot easier). The pro from my home club made the intro to get us on, and as much as we like Kapalua, KKGC will always be our first pick, plus it is $100 less expensive.
Starter was very friendly and helpful. We were a twosome playing quickly behind a member with three guests. They asked us if we wanted to play through. He was very friendly and we had a quick laugh as we thanked him. Hardly saw a sole on the course after that. Only less positive comment is that the Pro shop staff could have been a bit friendlier - just makes it easier to hand over the $$$.
Will try it's sister course next time we are back. If it is half as good as KKGC it will be a good day. Glad we made the decision to come here.

Spent a month on Maui playing 7 courses during my visit. I would rate this course as the best maintained of all 7. KKGC sits 600-700 feet above the isthmus of Maui on the Iao Valley (north) side of the island. Because it is located inland, there are no ocean holes, but you have nice views of the east and west coastlines, Haleakala across the isle and a beautiful backdrop of mountains abutting the course. Fairways are wide and perfectly maintained, as are the greens, which can be a little tricky as you expect all putts to roll towards the valley (not always so). There are numerous pine trees on the course, which was a surprise as one might expect more palm trees on the island. Esthetically, it is a very pleasing course to view. There are creeks and waterfalls on 4-5 holes and beautiful vegetation on many others, Be mindful, if you do not hit the ball straight and hug the uphill side of the fairways, you will end up in the rough on the valley side. Most bunkers are on the downhill side of the fairway, where your ball will role and they could use more sand in the bunkers.
The staff was extremely friendly. I cannot say enough about the hospitality. They get an A+. As others have mentioned, the clubhouse is quite unique and a pleasure to visit.
I purchased a three round package which included 2 rounds at Kahili GC and 1 round at KKGC The individual price to play KKGC is a little pricey, which is the reason I did not rate it with a 5 star. I am frugal (cheap). When I can play Kahili GC, which is a very nice course, 3 times for the price of 1 round at KKGC, I'll choose Kahili. That being said, KKGC is a course worth playing at least once on your visit to Maui.I'll do that when I come back.

I see this is a private course. Can visitors get on to play or do you need an invite by a member? If you can play, does anyone know the rate for 18 holes of golf with a cart??

Is walking through the FLW designed building allowed? We are not members or golfers. Tourist who are enormous E FLW fans. Thanks!

Yes. They are very welcoming to FLW fans. We walked through the building and it was lovely.
The only time there might be a problem - if there is an event going on in the clubhouse. Then a visit would probably not be appropriate. You may want to call ahead, just to check.

Does anyone have any best ideas fro getting to the King Kamehameha Golf Course Clubhouse from Kahului?
Written April 27, 2017
From Kahului take Kuihelani Hwy (RT380) to Honoapiilani Hwy (RT30) and make a right. It's about a mile ahead on the left.
