About
Maui Dive Shop offers small group SCUBA diving trips to at least two different destinations every day of the week. Maka Koa, our Pro 48' V-Hull, twin-engine, jet driven dive boat, takes up to 24 divers plus snorkelers out of Maalaea Harbor, providing comfortable seating and amenities for a quick, safe, convenient ride to each dive location. The boat is equipped with a marine head (bathroom), fresh water shower, padded seating, and all necessary safety equipment. Knowledgeable crew members will provide an on board briefing to familiarize you with the boat, our equipment, and the spectacular marine life. A full breakfast and deli lunch, as well as refreshments, will be served on board. Free transportation from the South side of the island is also available.

We have been to Maul several times and found Maui Dive Shop terrific on multiple dive trips. The team is knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They go out of their way to ensure a terrific customer experience. During our most recent trip we participated in two separate trips - one to Molokini and "Turtle town", the other a "Sunset Dive". Both were outstanding in terms of underwater experience - each a two tank dive. Overall, on the dives we saw a shark, sea turtles, manta rays and a variety of other sea life - the team demonstrated outstanding knowledge of the waters around Maui and how to optimize the dive experience. The food served, knowledge imparted, quality of equipment, and overall organization were exceptional. I highly recommend Maui Dive Shop!

This is the second time we have gone diving with Maui dive shop and 10/10 would recommend this experience. My sister and I went together and we are both newer divers (<15). Our dive master John was incredibly patient, supportive, and passionate about the marine bio diversity. He made us feel comfortable and had a ton of fun. The entire boat staff was exceptional — truly a valet diving experience with hot breakfast and lunch provided on the boat. We did two dives — one at molokini and the second was supposed to be the back wall, but the conditions were too rough, so we pivoted to another nearby dive spot. Overall incredible experience. Recommend going in winter months for humpback whale season :)

I wish they had more than 5 stars.
I booked a reservation for 2 for the 2 Tank TRY SCUBA Introductory Beach Dive a month before our trip to Maui as my husband and I have never been diving before.
The day before our reservation I had an unfortunate experience snorkeling and decided that open ocean water sports are not for me and did not go. Despite it being less than 24 hours before the scheduled dive they refunded my fee and took my husband on what ended up being a one on one instructional dive.
They returned him hooked on scuba diving. Thanks, guys. You know how hard it is to scuba in landlocked Illinois?
He saw fish and turtles and his instructor Kristen was patient, informative and professional. He felt at ease and safe at all times.
When they returned to the shore for the second tank the water conditions changed and it was Kristen's decision not to go back out for safety reasons so they refunded the second tank fee as well. Although he was disappointed not to continue, even my husband could see that it was the safest choice.
Thank you Maui Dive for an unforgettable experience!

I dove with this shop at Molokini & Turtle town in November and was super impressed pretty much like most other reviewers here. Then, In Feb, I decided to do a second trip - this time to the Manta station (an afternoon diver trip). While the boat, captain, food/beverages & services was still first class, they had 1 guide for 8 divers which was too much. The guide was nice but there is only so much attention he could offer. It seemed like we were cattle headed into the water with not much time for guide to understand if everyone was comfortable, BCD was working fine and if weights were correct. Then we rushed to do our descend. My BCD was loaded with too much of weight to a point I was sinking even at the surface with full BCD inflated. I found this unsafe & risky.
Another aspect was getting back on boat. All 8 divers & the guide had to hold on to the boat (this is a current/drift dive). Again, this was super cramped with people shoving slippers & kicks in each others face. The helper on board was trying his best to cater to all 8 divers but was evidently spread too thin. As I was going up the ladder, a noob diver behind me started to step up the ladder as well which was risky.
Most dive shops in Maui cater to 4 (max 5) divers per guide. This one seemed too cramped for comfort.
Another aspect was getting back on boat. All 8 divers & the guide had to hold on to the boat (this is a current/drift dive). I am happy you were impressed by our valet dive service and attention to detail on your dives in November, however I am sorry you felt the recent Manta dive was up to par. Though the ratio of 1:8 is standard around dive companies in Maui, at your suggestion, we will take a look at our ratios and specifically how the dive leader handles that size group, as well as some newer divers special needs.

We booked this dive because it offered a dive inside the Molikini Crater and on the backside. We were charged $220 apiece for just tanks and weights supposedly because of COVID restrictions limited the number of divers onboard. I was not pleased at the steep price, but was looking forward to more space on the boat. Instead they had 16 divers broken into three groups, with SEVEN divers in my group plus the dive master. John Foerster was our dive master. He gave a fine briefing on the way out to the site and did an excellent job pointing out critters in the water for me to photograph. My only complaint is that this was not worth $220. I have been diving for over 40 years and have never overpaid this much for a dive. If the shop claims that this boat usually holds more than the 16 divers on my trip then I would not dive on that boat for any price.
On another note, though certainly not the fault of Maui Dive Shop, this was my first time diving the crater in ten years. It appeared to be a mere shadow of the beauty it once was.

This is my second review for Maui Dive. Three years ago we did our OW dives after training back home. Our instructors were great but the store had a real unfriendly vibe. We went on a snorkel trip with a large amount of family and the boat was good - nothing to complain about.
Now it’s 2020. We wanted to dive the back wall of Molokini since we had 65 dives under are belt now and experience through not only dives but various SSI certs. My expectations of Maui Dive were not at any particular level- just get me to the dive site.
WOW just WOW!!!!!
Maui Dive crew is unbelievable in their customer service. From time of booking our first dive while back at home to saying goodbye to the crew on our last dive the day before we flew home. Shout out to Dorothy and her patience and great customer service. The staff in the store are friendly and helpful. Shout out to John and Brian who are excellent professional guides. They both gave through dive briefings, pointed out great finds on the dive and kept in communication with each diver appropriately. Big props to Captain Gil and his boat skills. We had two days of choppy water and he assured us and took us to great dives even if the first day was not what was planned. He made the call to not travel to the crater and we were fine with that- did two dives at shore instead which were great.
When we did make it to Molokini on January 10 we were a small group of divers. The ride was choppy and the crew did such a great job taking care of us. A can of ginger ale with fresh ginger added were in our hands immediately. So appreciated. I wish I was rich enough to give each crew member $1000 tip that day because each one deserved that and more.
Not only is the service five star so is the buffet of food offered on the boat. It is over the top! I felt like I was on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. I have an onion allergy and staff ensured I had a onion free breakfast burrito both mornings. Thank you so much for that.

I had a great experience with this dive shop! Email communication before my trip was excellent - they answered all my questions and responded quickly. I booked a private dive master for the Molokini & Turtle Town dive and it was 100% worth it. Luke made the whole experience awesome! I told him that I wasn’t too confident diving since I haven’t had much recent experience, so he gave me a mini refresher lesson on the boat ride over. He also showed me pictures of all the fish that we might see on the dive, so I knew I was looking at once we were in the water. He knew where to find all the cool marine life and showed me some great stuff that I definitely would have missed otherwise. It was so much fun to dive with him!
The rest of the crew was also super friendly and helpful. They had a fun dynamic and seemed very engaged with all the divers, and that made the trip really enjoyable. Gear was great and they were very professional about setting it up, helping everyone, safety, etc. The breakfast burritos were also perfect on the early morning ride over to Molokini. An all around fantastic experience and I hope I can dive with them again soon.

My wife and I went on an intro to scuba dive with Bryan, off of the beach. He was an excellent instructor and was very patient, as my wife had never done scuba before. During the dives, Bryan was great at pointing out all manner of interesting sea life then explaining what it was after the dive. The highlight was a couple of 10 ft Manta Rays circling around the reef. Bryan knew exactly what to do and put us in perfect position, the Manta Ray swam right by us within arms length. Unreal experience and an awesome time, I can't recommend Bryan highly enough.

I am a beginner diver and had an incredible experience with Maui Dive shop.
Shannan at the front end was extremely courteous and helpful with the billion questions I had.
Thank you to Isaiah, the boat captain, who determined the visibility was poor at our second dive spot at Turtle Town and took us all the way back to Molokini.
It was on this dive that I saw the dolphin pod. Crying with awe underwater on hearing their clicks was quite the life experience!
Highly recommend diving during the humpback whale migration time frame. We had a bunch of them around the boat being absolute hams. They put up a great show with their pectoral flipper/tail fluke slapping, full breaches and spy hopping shenanigans.
Jack , our instructor, was super attentive, funny and knowledgeable. I felt extremely safe with him and highly appreciate his patience with me.

The Maui Dive Shop crew are amazing! Highly recommend!!
After having boat engine troubles on the morning of our dive/snorkel tour to Molokini and Turtle Town, they had to re-book us for another day. No problems doing that, they got us taken care of. They even brought us on the boat for some breakfast and let’s us take the lunches they’d made for us and stock up on drinks! We used the drinks and lunches to go drive around the island checking out waterfalls all day!
On our second try for diving, everything was fixed on the boat and worked out great. Captain Jack was super friendly, let my kids hang out with him up top, and chatted with us during the trip. It was my son’s 10th birthday too, so Captain Jack made an announcement to the boat and everyone cheered! Ernie, our dive master, was absolutely top notch! Great briefing, entertaining, and safety first, always! He told us a lot about what we’d see on the dive.
Because the kids aren’t certified divers yet, they snorkeled. But the folks at Maui Dive Shop (because they’re awesome!) let my husband and I pay for 1 adult dive and 1 adult snorkel, then we split the 2 tank dive, each of us diving at one location, then switching so that one parent could stay with the kids at all times. My husband saw a reef shark and a turtle on his Molokini dive!
Food and accommodations on the boat were fantastic! They even had cool peppermint towels to wipe the salt off your face at the end of the dive! I’ve never had that before, but now I can never go back! 😃

Going to scuba for the first time. Do I need a certificate of some sort to go on these morning Molokini dives?

Yes, you do need to be certified to dive at Molokini. The state of Hawaii's Department of Natural Resources has passed a law that prohibits non-certified scuba divers at the crater.

This shop provided both of our daughters with their Discovery Dive, Ben was their instructor and they were both quite comfortable with the instructor as he was very professional and knowledgeable. They are so thrilled with this experience, they are both ready to return to Maui Dive for further training and certification.

Hi there! What is the average water temp in May? Did you rent a wetsuit through Maui Dive Shop? If so, what thickness? I see that the average depth for the 2 tank dive to Molokini/Turtle Town is 65 feet. Does anyone have any specifics on depth? (My boyfriend is a scuba newbie) Thanks:)
