About
Set in the gentle hillsides of "Up-Country" Maui, Pukalani Country Club overlooks the Pacific Ocean and offers breath-taking panoranic views of the Valley Isle of Maui. The Pukalani Country Club is nestled at the 1,100 foot elevation level of world famous Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano whose name in Hawaiian means "House of the Rising Sun" and is appropriately reflected as the golf course's logo. Pukalani's 18 holes were designed by golf course architect Bob Baldock who designed more than 69 public and private golf courses throughout the United States. The Pukalani Country Club's greenery covers nearly 160 acres. Built in 1980, the course is 6,962 yards long from the championship tees, plays to a par 72, and features 19 greens in its 18-hole layout! On hole #3, golfers may choose a tough iron shot across a ravine and into the wind for one green, or a challenging chip shot straight down to a well-trapped green several hundred feet below into the ravine. No other golf course in Hawaii can compare or offer you this unique setting and challenge of our hole #3. "Pukalani" which in Hawaiian means "Entrance to Heaven" certainly describes Pukalani Country Club!

- Don A2 contributionsBest golf value on MauiWe have been annual visitors to Maui for 30 years and usually golf Pukalani at least once. Today we found it to be in its best condition ever. I’m sure the rains helped, but the fairways were consistently good and the greens had private club appearance and consistency, though they were cut just a smidge higher. The elevation gives you a bit cooler experience. Great views and a great value.Aloha, Thank you for taking the time to write this nice review of Pukalani Country Club. We did complete our greens resurfacing in 2021 to Seashore Paspalum greens. I will share your review with our Maintenance Department Team Members. We hope to see you on your next visit to Maui. - Justin W1 contributionEasily the best value on MauiThis is an hidden gem in Maui! It was an incredibly well maintained course. The greens were in excellent condition, probably the nicest greens I’ve played in Maui. Great views on the front 9. This was a very fun course to play with a few dog legs that required some club and shot selection, shots over chasms, and even a choice par 3 shot: one green located down a hill, or one green located across a chasm; choose your own adventure. The staff were very friendly, from the pro shop to the starter to the marshall on the course. 10/10 recommend to everyone. I will likely take advantage of their deals next time for the weekly golf specials and play this course more often.Aloha Justin, Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review of Pukalani Country Club. - Adam D8 contributionsAmazing golf courseThis golf course was a pleasant surprise. I've played the muni course on the island in years past to save money from the resort courses and their prices increased substantially so I decided to try. a new course. This course struck my eye due to it's different non-coastal location. My wife and I love touring the upcountry and this course was perfect. The layout and views are spectacular. The staff were amazing and very helpful. It meanders through some beautiful neighborhoods and every hole is different. The greens and fairways were well maintained and my wife and I loved the course. We plan to return again and play while we're here and I wish I'd saved the $$ I wasted trying the Wailea Gold course out for this one. Great experience.Mahalo for taking the time to write your review of Pukalani Country Club on Maui, Hawaii. - Cynthia MBend, Oregon722 contributionsCourse in good conditionWe play this course each time we are on Maui. The course is in the best condition it has been in the past several years. But we ended up behind a seven some!!! And there was no one behind us for the rest of the round. We tee’d off around 1 pm. You’d think they would have let a lonesome twosome play thru? We did report this to the pro after our round.Aloha Cynde, Mahalo for your time writing this review of Pukalani Country Club. I am a part-time resident of Maui who organizes golf on island. One of our favorite courses is Pukalani. The rates are great, the course is one of the most picturesque in the area, and we try and play at least once, sometimes twice a month when we are here. We always get a large group playing, and they keep coming back. The staff is fantastic - very obliging, responsive and wonderful people to work with. Organizing large groups, we sometimes have last minute changes - they always, always accommodate us. We look forward to many more years of fun golf at Pukalani Country Club.

The course is well maintained, challenging yet playable with great views, and by far the most affordable golf on Maui with the Aloha Pass they offer. Staff are all friendly and helpful. My wife and I played more than 20 morning rounds in February and March 2023 and only a couple of rounds were more than 4 hours. I can't recommend it highly enough.

We have been traveling to Hawaii for many years and stay in the Kaanapali area. So traveling to the Pukalani Country Club takes longer than playing at one of the more local golf sites. But, you can’t beat this golf club! Local and low key. For pricing, a gorgeously maintained course, amazing views, cool climate and friendly staff!!
We usually get a delicious quick lunch at their casual cafe before playing a one o’clock tee time when pricing is incredibly reasonable with cart. After a great 18 holes, we take advantage of being upcountry by having dinner at one of our two favorite restaurants, Kula Bistro or Haliimaile General Store.

On first visit, you may think you're in the wrong place, or some extreme weather event wiped out the clubhouse, and that's why things are in trailers, or under a tent-like cover for their carts. But no, things are in enough of a condition that it becomes clear that this an ongoing condition, not one resulting from an extreme event. Then after getting checked in & ready to play, you may be instructed to have the cart turned back in 20 minutes before sundown, which if pace of play is going well could cost you 2-3 holes of play. Then 40 minutes before that, a course worker shows up at the hole you are putting out on to collect the pinstick, and we have to wait to play on the next hole while they take that pin before we play the hole. Oh and the course worker also INSTRUCTED us to leave the course 15 minutes earlier than the previous instruction, which would have cost another hole of play if my partner hadn't had enough at the point where we ended up finishing in time to meet both demands. While the course layout may provide a decent golf challenge, the rest of the experience is 2nd rate, and IMHO, not worthy of inclusion on any "top something" list to play. Also, they have the odd restriction to not take your cart to the driving range (which is on course), but go ahead & drive it into the parking lot.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. The people running the show clearly don’t want visitors playing at “their club”. Reading previous reviews , both on TA and elsewhere, my experience is very similar to many. I doubt my comments will be seen as constructive criticism to improve service as I suspect they aren’t interested in improving service for those pesky visitors.
We arrived to play a family round of golf in the afternoon, a group of keen and not so keen golfers. When we eventually worked out where the pro shop was, the greeting was unwelcoming, hostile and it felt like they were annoyed by the inconvenience of visitors. We were kinda chastised for being early ( but not knowing the process to be followed we deliberately arrived early) . We were a group of 4 and had booked and paid for 4 tee-times. Initially we were told there were 2 other visitors who would also join our group. ( creating a group of 6). When I pointed out that we had booked and paid for tee-times for 4 people they apparently changed their mind, but we still had 2 other people right behind us teeing off, who were unsure of their tee-time.
The general demeanour was grumpy and unhelpful. No information was offered (like where to collect hire clubs) , and questions were met with exasperation,. One staff member in the cart area was friendly and helpful, but he was the exception. A very poor experience for international visitors, that reflects badly on this club.

Playing for the last several months, I will say that I enjoy the course and views. The bunkers are not sand but dirt and when wet are like hitting off of wet concrete. Used to be able to put out of many the bunkers but now they are putting a large lip at the top to prevent this.
My poor rating is because of the lack of customer service, there are a few employees that provide excellent service but most of the starters do not.
One big observation is the Pukalani Country Club is a club for the employees only and customers come in a distant second. The employees and friends play at prime tee times and gamble with their friends. Several five-some groups go out and play extremely slow. If you have four empty holes in front of you and four to five groups waiting behind you are playing too slow. They have to measure the putts and settle bets on every green taking their time. Often with several groups waiting behind them. Of course the employees follow golf etiquette (sarcasm) they never allow anyone to play through. They also drive carts over tee boxes, drive between the green side bunkers and the green which is actually driving partially on the green, but they have been known to drive carts directly across the greens. Employees do not fix ball marks or divots while playing.
The manager Ron does not address any of these problems. This is probably why the problems persist. Ron will deflect the issues with promises to look into them but never resolves any problem.
Sadly I will play other courses where I am teated like a valued customer.

The course was the most affordable to play of all the courses we checked. The course was in very good condition with only a few small bad spots on the fairways and the tee boxes. The greens were in excellent condition considering they were plugged and sanded less than a week earlier. When the greens recover from the plugging and sanding, they will be some of the best available in the area. The people in the pro-shop and cart facility were helpful, friendly, and professional. The snack bar is currently housed in a temporary facility, but it was well stocked and the lady working there was very helpful and professional! We thoroughly enjoyed playing the course and looking forward to playing again in the future.

This is a very nice golf course with mountain views, challenging but fair layouts. I went there with my girlfriend and we are to play golf and rent a set of clubs for under $100 on the thursday visitor deal. I play a lot of golf and this course was in rather good shape, fairways were good, tee boxes solid, some missing grass in spots but to be expected. You cannot play golf in Maui for anywhere close to this price, the weather is a bit cooler up that way than by the beaches. We also bought a couple hats and nice jackets at a nice discount-overall a great experience!

We went on a Thursday for the all day special rate of $69 per person. The course is long and has beautiful vistas of the Maui valley. The front nine was in better shape than the back nine on the day we played the course. Overall worth a stop for something different and significantly less expensive than the Maui resort golf courses.
We arrive early for breakfast which was good; served on a patio of the main building (which is a large manufactured housing building).

We chose this course because of the much lower greens fees. We were not disappointed!! The course was in excellent shape and had a great layout. The more expensive courses don’t seem worth the money when you can play here and pay half the price. Beautiful views on every hole. And the pro shop staff went above and beyond (shoutout to Tassie who held onto a bag of golf supplies I accidentally left and had to come back for the next day)!

There are two harbors located on the island in Maui.
1) Kahului Harbor-15 minutes from Pukalani Country Club best via taxi at a fare of approx. $50.00 each way.
