Just got back from our Hawaii vacation and cannot say enough good things about our experience with Zack Howard Surf. (He'd come highly recommended by a co-worker and I am so glad I took his advice.) We had a morning surf lesson for myself and my two kids (ages 12 and 10) at Ukamehame Beach with Maika'i. He was so good with helping the three of us learn the ropes and get some good waves in. We all had so much fun and can't wait to get a chance to surf some more! (My 10-year-old has been asking to buy him a surf board - trouble is, we live near Chicago!) Would definitely recommend taking beginner surf lessons with Zack Howard Surf.

Extremely disappointing. After confirming via email, Zack was a no-show on Christmas morning for our family of 4 taking a surf lesson for the holiday. He has still not responded to my emails and texts trying to clarify what happened.

Had a great time learning the basics of surfing with Travis. Great coaching at each wave, and it didn’t take long at all to stand up and ride the first wave.

Our family of four planned to do a single lesson to see what surfing was like, but we had so much fun with our instructor Luke that we ended up doing three days of lessons! Luke was a great teacher, especially important to us since the four of us (two high school girls and parents) had never surfed before. He gave us some on-land instruction first and then quickly got us out on the water. It was easier than I expected. I thought we'd be lucky to be standing on our boards in a 1.5 hour lesson, but we were all up and standing right away. And 1.5 hours was plenty of time. We were all exhausted by the end of our lesson! While we waited between waves he chatted with us about our lives and shared about his life growing up on Maui, surfing and competing. He's only 1 or 2 years older than our daughters so they could really relate to him. They were so excited to do additional lessons with him that they woke up at 6:30am while on vacation to get to 7am lessons! The beach location was only 10 minutes away from our base in Maalaea so it couldn't have been any more convenient to us, but it would be easy for Kihei and Lahaina as well. Next time we'll bring our GoPro to video the experience!

Our family of four (ages 51, 51, 15, and 12) took surfing lessons on the south coast of Maui and we all loved it. The location has a very gentle beach break and it was far less crowded than most of the other surf spots we saw on the island and in Oahu. The instructors were very hands-on and patient. We all had a great time and highly recommend Zach Howard Surf for the entire family.

Our family did a 1 1/2 hour surf lesson with Zack. It was amazing! I can not recommend this experience enough. He was very laid back, and even though it took some of us longer to pick it up than others, Zack was patient, and made sure everyone had a great time. We would recommend him to anyone interested in surfing!

Zack managed to fit me into a group lesson and I had a great time, Zack was clear in his instruction and made the lesson really fun. I definitely improved during the lesson and would definitely recommend him again.

Dude no showed on a private lesson confirmation! Should’ve paid attention to the yelp reviews. After several email exchanges confirming the lesson, this team didn’t provide the location - even after several tries. As a pretty good surfer (26 years in the water) myself, I know what this experience should look like. I’ll never go back and will tell my friends to look elsewhere.

Had a great experience with them. My instructor, Maika’i asked a lot of questions and figured out where I was and what I knew. He adjusted the lesson to my level - I told him I wanted a challenge - and off we went. He definitely pushed me and put my abilities to the test, which paid off with more than a few great rides. He switched me from the foam board to a normal one mid lesson and let me experience that - was definitely better for me. He gave me many tips and tricks that I’ll take home with me. Really appreciate their flexibility and communication. Will recommend for my friends and family!!!

We had two surfers, intermediates, who wanted to up their game. This was a great way to do it, and Sarah is an excellent teacher. She took the time to learn where our surfers were, ability-wise, and took them up a solid level. We met at a section of beach where there were no crowds of lessons going on. I highly recommend this over the usual group crowded beach thing.
