Our only regret is we only booked a half day! Kyle is a terrific guide; knowledgeable, easy-going and fun. He knows and loves the island and made our day so memorable. Kyle expertly drove the Road to Hana, showing us the best views and hidden gems along the way (including the best fish tacos on the island (Da Fish Shack, awesome). He was so helpful in sharing recommendations for the rest of our trip (great snorkeling spots, hiking, food, everything!). By the end of the day, I felt like we were old friends - highly recommend Sandy Cheeks Tours...and book yourself a FULL day :)

I would give this tour 10 stars if I could! (Our trip was just before the pandemic struck.) This was the best day of our 2 1/2 weeks in Hawaii. Kyle is professional, friendly, dependable, very willing to customize the tour for us (2 people in our early 60's) and show us the kinds of things we were interested in. I just can't say enough great things about our day. Great food at lunchtime, stops at very interesting and beautiful roadside stands, we saw black sand beaches, sea turtles, a monk seal (somewhat rare to see, I think), waterfalls, and more. He said he did the tour for us in a way that some may consider 'backwards' (starting in Makawao and then heading South and East and ending up near Haiku at about 5:00 pm so we could see the sea turtles that tend to be on the beach at that time of day. You know you have a great tour guide when he customizes the tour like that for you. We found him to be a safe driver, very considerate, clearly loves the land. I was a little afraid that I might not be able to handle the bumpy road (as I had read it is), but it was not a big deal, hardly any bumps. Most of the road is smooth. There is no way we could have enjoyed the day as much without this tour. Whomever would be driving would miss the sights, and you would not know all the great spots Kyle knows no matter how many guide books you read. Plus, the Hana Road is not the kind of road where you can easily turn around to go back and see something. If you are hesitating because of the cost, don't! The day was priceless. I hope I never forget it. Thanks, Kyle!

Kyle and Erin were absolutely incredible! We had a group of 9 people (1 senior, 3 adults, 1 teenager, 2 pre teens, and 2 toddlers) and were split up in 2 different SUVs. They really tailored and paced the day so that everyone had something to enjoy. Cliff jumping, Lava Caves, Beaches, Sea Turtles, and absolutely breath taking views! They were both so knowledgeable about the local spots and my kids learned a lot about the area and are still telling me things that Kyle or Erin told them. Also, last but certainly not least, their expert driving navigating the winding narrow roads and knowing where to stop and park was vital to the day. I highly recommend this tour, it was an experience my whole family will never forget!

I’ll save you some time: stop doing research on Road to Hana tours and book with Kyle NOW! I carefully curated my family’s Hawaii trip after spending nearly 50 hours on researching/booking restaurants, hikes, tours, etc. Kyle was easily the highlight of our family’s trip.

I don’t want to repeat what others have already said in his other glowing reviews, but will try to offer a different perspective. Kyle’s authenticity is what I’ll remember - he kept it real. I’m sure Kyle has given thousands of tours, but he doesn’t make you feel like he’s on autopilot. This is in HUGE contrast to other highly rated tours that we went on. Sure, they were nice and did a decent job, but other tour guides felt completely scripted and some even had the audacity to ask for a 5-star review before the tour started (yuck!). (Full transparency: he did ask for a review at the end if we thought he deserved it and I’m writing this because he 11/10 earned it.) He interacted with the entire family during the 8+ hours and it honestly felt like he was part of a family road trip. He could easily write a book with all of his stories and let me tell you, he’s had some crazy tourists.

During the drive, he pulled off at various times for a scenic photo opportunity and we saw other tour groups drive by and all I think could think was “Ha, sucker, you’re missing this great view. We have Kyle.” I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but let’s just say that he took us to some places where the locals hang out and even one hike to a waterfall where we were the only ones. So cool!!

Anyway, I can’t say enough good things about Kyle and his tour company. I will tell my friends and coworkers all about Sandy Cheeks when they visit Hawaii. Do yourself and your family a favor, book this tour and enjoy a trip you’ll never forget.

Sandy Cheeks was everything and more that we could have asked for. We wanted to experience Road to Hana with someone that knew the way and could take us to places off the beaten path. Plus, we wanted to be able to relax and take it all in, without having to sort where to go. We got that and more.

Let’s start with communication - Excellent! Kyle called us the day before to confirm all and ask us what kind of experience we were looking for. We met the next day and he was punctual with snacks, water and Gatorade for us. His car was great, spacious and great air temperature. Maui is HAWT! So we were grateful he had good AC and kept a comfortable temp the entire trip. He had a great balance between stories and pointing out places, music (which he plays great Maui artists) and stops. On our tour, we did the entire Hana loop. You can tell Kyle has done this a thousand times judging by how comfortable he was on the wheel, even on the rougher parts of the road. We felt safe. We stopped for some amazing views, a black sand beach (off the beaten path, without tourist crowds), a very neat bee farm, 2 different fruiteries where we are some of the best avocados, soursop and banana bread. We went for a hike to see a waterfall and stopped through many others along the road. We also visited a lava tube/cave, a beach filled with sea turtles and my personal favorites, the Venus Pool where I had the chance to jump in the pool from a 30ft cliff and a bamboo forest. All hidden gems that we could explore without the craziness of a 100 visitors. We also stopped for some very yummy food in a food truck park - awesome fish tacos! The conversation was great! If you are worried about weirdness or awkwardness with a private tour guide (I did when booking)… don’t. Kyle is a super cool dude, very knowledgeable and passionate about Hawaiian culture. He is easy to talk to and adjusts to you. You can’t go wrong choosing Kyle to be your guide. He is the real deal, aside from being incredibly kind. We are so grateful for the amazing time! Next time We are in Maui, I will for sure look for a part 2 with Sandy Cheeks! Don’t think about it twice! You will be so happy with the Sandy Cheeks experience!

From the moment we met him, Kyle was awesome! He was personable, funny, and so much fun to spend the whole day with. It was like having a friend who lives in Maui showing you the sights! He did an amazing job sharing history, stories, and his own experiences with us and had us entertained the entire six hours!

He balanced showing us the tourist stops while also taking us off the beaten path to some incredible spots we never would have experienced on our own. We don’t want to give away any of his secrets, but let’s just say we got to see some truly hidden treasures tucked away in holes and paths that looked mundane from the outside and ended up being spectacular!

We are so thankful that we ended up going with Kyle instead of trying to venture out on our own. He made us feel safe even while we were being adventurous and his driving allowed us to all sit back and take in all of the breathtaking views along the way. His tour was definitely tailored to our tastes and if we ever find ourselves in Maui again, we wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour with him. Thank you so much, Kyle and Sandy Cheeks, for giving four friends lifetime memories of the Road to Hana!!!
And thank you for being a climate control expert as well ;)

Can’t say enough about our Hana tour! Kyle and Mike were incredible. They were very generous with their time and knowledge. They were also extremely patient with us. They somehow found a way to build a great rapport and comfortability just within a short period of time. I traveled in a big group and was worried that they wouldn’t be able to accommodate us. However, Kyle made everything so easy. If you’re looking for a tour, I would highly recommend booking them. It felt like we were hanging out with friends instead of a routine tour. It was definitely a highlight of my Maui Trip! Mahalo!!!

When my wife suggested that we hire a driver to take us to Hana, I wasn’t sure why we would need one. Then I started reading online about how windy and narrow the roads were. Combined with the fact that the road to Hana is nicknamed “the Road to divorce“, well that made it an easy decision to go along with it.

I am so glad I did! Kyle was an amazing tour guide. Not only was he well prepared for the trip with snacks and drinks, the vehicle was extremely comfortable, and he provided a running commentary all along the way of facts and history.

Best of all, he stopped at places which people who were driving themselves would never know about. We would literally pass dozens of cars parked on the side of the road only to go down the way about a mile, pull off on some side road, and find an even better more secluded beach to swim.

I am so glad we used Sandy Cheeks!!

Very glad my wife and I booked this tour with Kyle. First, the private tour is worth it, we could take our time at the stops that we enjoyed most. All the amazing scenery was helped with Kyle's knowledge of the area. If you're going to spend a day driving around, Kyle made it very entertaining.

This was our first time in Maui and honestly, we couldn’t have been more thankful for Kyle to give us a private and customized tour of the Road to Hana. Being our first time, we knew having a local take us around the island was the best way to go.

So many highlights of the trip! Where to start?

His new car totally made the drive much more comfortable for the day. We started on the south side of the island because we drove the reverse Road to Hana. We loved the off the beaten path experiences where we saw several waterfalls, beautiful scenery, and surreal beaches. Not to mention the lunch spot in Hana. The day we went the Da Fish Shack was closed, so we ate at Trays Food Truck. SO GOOD! Two of my favorite stops were cliff jumping and the Keanae Lookout area where we saw massive swells that day.

Hands down Kyle was one of the best tour guides. He resonates with positive vibes and lives the spirit of aloha and truly made this an unforgettable experience!

We can’t wait to come back and see him again!
