Based on my research in the forums, I booked this luau as I read it was better for young children because of the fire dancers. Well, my children asked for 3 hours where the fire dancers were and they came out at the VERY end for 3 minutes tops. The other dancers were beautiful and interesting, but the kids were bored.
The food was okay, I think I only enjoyed the poke.
The grounds are beautiful but you can’t really enjoy as you are sat at patio furniture and you basically stay there.
And the parking- the email does say: validate at the luau. But we forgot over the course of 3 hours and NO ONE mentioned it or reminded us to do it, so we ended up paying $17 after an already very expensive night. The host/MC announced where the bathrooms were 5 times and stopped the show between each dance to ask how we are doing- you think they could throw in there: ‘hey, validate your parking over there’. Just a small annoyance after a pretty ‘meh’ experience.

This was our first trip to the island and it seemed like we just had to experience a Luau. While we enjoyed it and are glad we experienced the show, I would definitely tell others that it is not a must-do as compared to the rest of our trip.

First, the positives. The performers and show itself were very good and enjoyable. It was nice to hear some of the history. Our server did a great job. I would have had a few more of the included drinks if we didn't have to drive back to Kihei after the show. We went with beer which was good. The cocktail we were given on the way in was sweet but didn't seem to have much alcohol in it.

The not so positives started with the parking. Allow yourselves at least 15 minutes if you want to park and casually walk to the lu'au. It was a long way with no obvious path up to the entrance. Once you're inside (an extremely beautiful hotel mind you) there is a long walk with little direction to the actual entrance that includes some stairs. They do validate your parking but there was no mention of it at check in or when leaving and we had to walk all the way back into the lobby to get validated so we could get out.

After paying over $1000 for a family of five to attend the show I couldn't stomach being asked to spend another $40 for a picture. That cheapened the experience right at the start and instantly made it feel money grubbing.

As I said our waiter did a great job and was attentive to us, getting drinks when needed. The first and last courses were good. The poke was delicious as was the cake. The entrée was okay. As others have mentioned the steak was dry and the rest wasn't memorable.

I knew that this was a tourist activity but thought we needed to go to a luau when in Hawaii. For the price and being at a higher end resort, I expected the entire experience to live up to expectations. I'd be up front with anyone asking me and tell them unless money was no object they should skip this one and try to find a show that has the total package.

This luau used to be our go-to on Maui. We have attended it many times. But, now it seems tired and forced.
The hostess repeats herself many times throughout the show, I think she welcomed us to the Hyatt and thanked everyone for coming, after every dance. And while the history of the islands is neat to learn through the dances, there are a lot less performers than in years past. It started to feel like a dance recital with the same four girls coming out in different outfits doing routines.
The stage area had been updated since we were there last, it's nice. But there is a lot of talking, and not a lot of hula.
Also, don't know where at a luau, it is necessary for the hostess to yell "Everybody Scream!" She did it a couple times, and it just doesn't fit in this setting.
The food was ok. It cannot be a buffet anymore because of Covid, so you end up with a lot on your plate that you may not want or like.
There is an open bar throughout the evening, but even that doesn't justify the cost of the tickets. $479 for two people in standard seating is a lot to drop for what was provided.
With so many luaus available on the island, we would think it's time for the Drums of the Pacific to up it's game.

Setting is in a staged outdoor seating area next to hotel with no ocean view. They present a pig that’s fake and the food is incredibly disappointing as it’s brought out in pre made trays. Open bar drinks were not made with any care and we’re horrible versions of classics. Entertainment was the best thing about it with fire dancers as the grand finale but overall it felt like a theme park version of a luau and I would highly recommend looking for a more classy real roasted pig with better food and ambience for the overpriced touristy luau production.

I read the reviews before booking so I wasn’t expecting the food to be good, but I didn’t expect it to be as bad as it was….it was terrible. My husband and I were at a table with others we didn’t know and they thought the same. That being said, our server was amazing and kept the drinks flowing and was very kind. The show was good and I was impressed with the talent and effort especially from the fire dancers! For over $400 per couple, I only recommend this luau if you’re staying at the resort like we were as we didn’t have to go far for it.

Terrible!!! This was a disappointing end to a beautiful trip. The check in was disorganized. The server took our food without asking and barely checked in. The food , dry chicken and dry pork, processed sides, was not worth the $400 for two people. They are robbing people! To top it off, they would not provide refunds for a rained out outdoor show. Do not go to this Luau. Try the Others.

This is an experience that you could easily miss.
It’s VERY kitchy and the food is on par with your uncle’s bbq. Somehow meatballs make it on everyone’s menu? The rest of the food is pretty dry and uneventful. But food is not why we’re here, right?

They start by telling you to check in an hour ahead of time to stage a photo of your table for which they will later try to charge you $30. I have to show up an hour early so you have time to try to pull more money out of my pocket?

There is essentially no entertainment while you are fed for over an hour. The open bar is really low shelf.

Once the entertainment actually gets started: One hour is a painful “fashion show” that basically shows the million and one ways one should sport a traditional Hawaiian cloth by folding it around your body over and over and over again.

Another half hour is “teaching you to hula dance”

There is about one hour of the whole event out of four that is made up of performative traditional dance that is what I would argue, almost everyone is actually paying for. The fire finale is a couple of minutes long.

My wife actually fell asleep she was so bored.
I really almost never write reviews but the fact that I was tricked into paying hundreds of dollars to come to this “ cultural” event just really frustrated me. Unless you are unable to leave the hotel or you are spending 7 weeks on Maui with nothing else to do, I would reconsider.

We attended this Lu'au for our 35th wedding anniversary but were seated in the very last row of the elevated level, the farthest point from the stage. At the time of booking they don't tell you where you seat is or show you what your options are. Very Controlled and non-transparent. Clearly this is to allow for preferential treatment for tour groups and local concierges. We booked more than two weeks ahead at which time there was seating both in VIP and regular, suggesting reasonable availability. Due to confusion on the website about the fees we opted for regular thinking it was several hundred dollars more for VIP for a table with 4 guests. Turns out it was only $100 more and boy do we wish we'd booked VIP! We could hardly see anything. So if you book, pay extra VIP if for now other reason just to get a decent seat. Or better yet, book with a tour group or concierge and pay the upcharge or tip. Fortunately our server was great and the food was just fine (large group lu'aus are not fine dining experiences).

The food was way below average. The website still advertises a buffet. It is a plated dinner. When I booked with the concierge I asked if there was the option to have more of the specific items on the menu we liked and was told the food was unlimited. That was not true. It’s one plate of food and you’re done. The price hasn’t changed as the buffet has been eliminated. They show the pig being unearthed, but then perform right on top of the pit through the performance. It has pineapples on the corners so I doubt it’s even real. You don’t smell it roasting like other lu’aus. They couldn’t plate the meals fast enough if it were real. For the VIP package they provide a picture. There is nothing in the background and you don’t have any leis yet. The picture could be anywhere based on the lack of scenery. The fire stick is a child’s toy also not worth VIP.

This is all hosted on a cement amphitheater. No grass. The program is the part of the evening with any value. The host is talented. The musicians are very good. There is a fashion show on lava lavas as part of the show. I have no idea how this fits in. It seemed out of place. We have attended many lu’aus on the islands. This one I would rank as the lowest of all of them on all levels, food, pictures, location, production, value for the cost. We would have done better to skip and spend the money on a nice dinner at restaurant. We went to dinner after since the food was so bad, limited choices and teenage sons were still hungry. I don’t appreciate being “sold” something that clearly wasn’t delivered, especially for this price when there are other options.

DO NOT GO TO THIS LU’AU!!! The only reason I wouldn’t give his Lu’au zero stars is because the performers do a great job, and should not be blamed for the this joke of a Lu’au. Let’s start with the “open bar”, the so called Mai Tai’s taste like a kids juice box, you are better off skipping this and just getting beer or wine. They hurriedly then push our the appetizers which if you have kids won’t touch any of it, not even the pineapple as even that is horrific and a second rate imported product. Before you’ve managed to try and eat what’s in front of you they are pushing out the main entree which is a triage of fish, chicken and pork thrown on a plate which looks as though someone went to the buffet for you and just threw as much on as possible, once again inedible, but even if it was edible the servers are trying to pull the plate away from you (probably to help save you from future stomach pains) and then present you with dessert which in my two sons own words was “the most disgusting thing we have ever eaten!”. Now that you have paid $300 to $500 for pig slop, which honestly was being refused by 90% of the patrons, the show begins. The performances are decent however the MC is flat out annoying and I’d say 50% of the time is her talking about how happy they are to have you vs. actually performing. If every other Lu’au is booked just save your money and go out to a nice dinner elsewhere, this one is the worst in all of Hawaii, and dare I say, in all the globe.
