This place should be one of top five things to do in Maui. In fact it was the highlight of my kid’s vacation. They’ve never surfed before and we’re hesitant to try. We inquired a few places to send our kids to surf and we are 100% sure you can not go wrong with this place. The staff are super nice and very helpful. They answered all my questions about weather, safety. cancellation, staff, general surf questions, the whole nine yards. We had Ka’ena (I know I spelled it wrong) aka “coconut” and he was an amazing instructor. He made the kids feel safe, gave great instructions and allowed the kids to have an amazing time. I highly recommend this instructor. He just made it so fun for my kids. He talked to them and made funny jokes while they were out there. We loved it so much we booked another class the following day because of a cancellation. I would recommend booking in advance because the spots fill up fast. This surf club was professional, clean and thorough. You and your family will have a great time with this company in whatever adventure you choose. If I could give them more stars I would. I don’t usually send reviews unless it is really REALLY worth my time. This place is awesome. When we return to Maui we will definitely do book our adventures with them.

My 12 year old had a private lesson with Randy and it was one of the best experiences of his time on Maui. His lesson was first thing in the morning, mid-week and there were not many others on the water - YAY!!! Randy really connected with my child, giving him excellent instruction to successfully stand tall on his board riding wave after wave. I really recommend getting the photo package for $65, I got a video of his best ride and about 25 pictures from throughout the hour. There were a couple issues with the upload and eventual download of them, but the photographer notified me and followed up. The service was top notch, no shortage of fun, and lifelong memories. Mahalo nui

My husband and I have seen the Ka’anapali Surf Club for many years and never gave it a second thought. This year, saw folks out kayaking and decided that would be something different from what we have done in the past. We always try at least one new adventure while in Maui. A private 2-hour, 2-person kayak snorkel, getting up close and personal with the whales and other sea creatures, sounded like it would fit the bill.
Set up our outing with Matt. Wind had been an issue for days and he selected a date in the near future. On the day of the outing, the ocean looked perfectly calm, sunny and warm. Met up with Joe, our guide, and off we went. After a brief lesson and safety briefing, we paddled out into the ocean looking for whales. It didn’t take too long, there they were! Mama, baby and a companion. It was majestic being near them (Joe made sure we followed the rules and didn’t get to close). They stayed near us for 45 minutes and turned, tails up and dove. Doesn’t get any better than this!
We then paddled over to the Black Rock area to snorkel. We beached and Joe took us out past the rock and pointed out fish, turtles, an octopus and other creatures. Joe asked us to dive down to hear the whales singing. What a treat that was! Joe was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable and willing to hook us up to his boat if we got too tired to paddle (being 60 plus, that sealed the deal). Luckily, we were able to paddle all the way and loved it.
I have been on many trips in Maui for a number of years. If you have any capability to paddle, do this trip. This is one of the best trips I have ever been on in Maui and that is saying something. The trip was so good, we went back and added more to Joe’s tip!

Took a trip a few years as a private tour and should have done it again. The weather was not idea, choppy and windy. We are not experienced kayakers, but, know basics. However, we all took off and paddled towards black rock from the westin. The group of 10 or more followed the guide. Several of us struggled and could not keep the pace of the group. We were essentially left behind, kept getting pushed further from the shore and not once did the guide come check on us. We finally caught up at black rock where the rest of the group participated in jumping. The indifference from the guide was appalling. The other couple that struggled commented on how horrible this trip was for them. Bottom line, do not recommend as a group if you are not in tip top condition and want the guide to be aware of your location. We thought we should have turned around and gone back to the starting point - the guide would have never known.

We belong to MVC and visit Maui twice yearly. Brought our adult daughter this visit and daughter and I decided to do 2 hr kayak/snorkel to Black Rock. One other man signed up for tour and since kayaks are 2-person, he rode with the guide,Matt, while dtr and I rode together. Matt and his boat partner consistently stayed 100 yards ahead of us! He wouldn’t have known if our boat tipped over! Prior to leaving there were absolutely no instructions or tips regarding paddling a kayak. The only question was “has anyone “kayaked in the ocean?” and we all said no. He waited until we were seated in the kayak and out in the water before saying that the “heaviest and strongest” person should sit in the back to anchor and steer the kayak. I’m not the strongest and told him so to which he said “it’ll be ok.” He was conducting the “tour” the entire time we paddled, but my daughter and only heard a small portion of what was said since he was always way ahead of us, typically when he stopped by rocks or at the beach. Then, when we banked the kayaks at black rock beach, Matt wasn’t even waiting for our kayak to wash up on the beach. I’m 59 yrs old and have a bit of a knee injury making it difficult to get out of a low boat rocking in the water on a beach, so it would’ve been so it would’ve been nice if Matt was standing there ready to greet our boat. The same thing happened when we got back to our origination point. Matt pulled his boat way up on the beach and he and his boat mate got out and walked away, and my daughter and I were left to fend for ourselves getting out of our kayak.
To sum up, the tour was disappointing but especially Matt’s behavior. I felt it was inconsiderate and undeserving of a tip, which, by the way, he did ask for. If you plan to do this tour, ask questions before you get in the boat and put out your expectations ahead of time. You shouldn’t have to do this, but apparently you do with this rental outfit and with Matt.

Location is super convenient right outside our resort and the website made it super easy to book online. Staff on site was very nice, but I do NOT recommend group lessons if you might need some adaptive adjustments or actual teaching. The site says groups of no more than 5, but there were 15 of us and instead of splitting into groups, they took us all out together and we just lined up and paddled to the whichever instructor was available. There was no helpful teaching once we were in the water whatsoever other than just "try again." I have a deformity of my left hand that made getting up the way they taught difficult, but minor enough that a few suggestions here or there would have helped immensely. When I tried to bring up what my exact issue was to get a tip, my answer several times was "just keep trying." I either needed some other ways to get up a little faster or a suggestion to switch to goofy stance (I snowboard regular so that's how I started, but my left hand is the gimpy one), but by the time I realised I could try switching stances, the lesson was almost over.

tl;dr
If you expect any teaching in the water or may need adaptations, book a private lesson. You can get cheaper elsewhere, but unless you pick it up immediately, you may be on your own.

I had a great time with Joe on my Eco Kayak Snorkel experience! I was honestly spoiled because I was the only one who signed up for the 8am Wed. class, but I think it was because the forecast was calling for major wind. But luckily the weather was fabulous. But with that said I got the tour solo, so that was a cool experience but not likely for anyone wanting to sign up, but I just want to be honest with my experience, lol.

Joe was very friendly and knowledgable about aquatic life and the state of Hawaii. He kept making sure I was comfortable and to see if I was cold. He spent like an hour trying to find me an octopus but couldn't find one. I felt bad but we found a sea turtle who swam with us and it was so worth it! It was humpback season so we heard the whales too. It was a journey I would never forget and I'm so glad I did it. I felt like I was in an aquarium. It was so beautiful seeing hundreds of different fish in all different colors!

The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 is because at the end they were snarky with their remarks about giving a tip. I am all about giving tip for a good quality experience because I know that these people work for them but to put the customer in an awkward position about tip (and pretty much telling them you are waiting for it) is just terrible business.

This was our first family vacation to Hawaii. Our 13yo daughter wanted to try surfing. We initially setup a session somewhere else, but then learned about KSC right out in front of our resort (Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club). The concierge made all the arrangements for us.
Our daughter had a blast. We did a private lesson with Randy. He was great. He was very informative both in the lesson as well as to my wife and I, so we would know exactly what they were doing. He started her off in the calmer section, where she did great. He then signaled to us that they would move down to the other section with slightly bigger waves. She did great there too! He helped her identify the good waves to choose and kept her safe out there, with a number of other boards in the water.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience!

My son and I turned up and got a last minute slot with Jerry. It was just us in the group which felt very special. Jerry was an excellent, friendly teacher. Neither of us had surfed before and I was so proud that by the end of the lesson my son was able to ride the board in for a wave. I faired a little less well but that's my fitness not the teacher! Would definitely recommend. Oh, and there was a professional photographer who (for a reasonable fee) took some excellent shots.

My 4 kids (ages 9-16) took surf lessons. They had so much fun. The 9-yr old got up her first time and probably rode close to 30 waves. The others did not do quite as well but still had fun. Instructors weee knowledgeable and very focused n for the kids. Would definitely recommend
