About
Maui Diving is the best local dive shop on Maui! We are a family run, woman owned business and love diving since 1989. Come out and dive with us! We easily certify the most students on the island every year. Our instructors have decades of experience between them and our safety rating is impeccable! We take out certified divers to the best scuba sites on the island. Every day of the week! We are an actual brick and mortar dive shop (not everyone servicing Maui is). We have 7 phenomenal instructors on staff so the likelihood of your dive being canceled is slim to none. We run a professional and fun experience for all our divers.

I did the one-tank dive at Mala Pier. It was considered the shark dive, but it was more of a turtle dive (which is cool by me, since I love sea turtles! We saw at least a dozen.) We did see two sharks, as well as an octopus. It was a shore dive, which was great, because it didn't take up the entire day. It was a shallow dive (max 30 ft), but I enjoyed that since we got to stay under for almost an hour. Everything was well-coordinated, and it felt very safe. The dive instructor was on her game the whole time. The shop itself was very nice, the staff was friendly, and the gear was in really good condition. I thought that the gear might be an extra rental fee, but it was actually all included in the cost. Overall I had a great time with Maui Diving, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fun, easy, dive.

We did the Mala Plus Shore dive with Will, which was our first scuba dive after getting certified. Will was a great guide - he got us acclimated to the sites, helped us double-check our gear, took pictures of us with my underwater camera, and also worked around a last-minute schedule change for someone we went out with. We particularly liked the small group we were in and level of attention. Mala Ramp (Mala Wharf, Mala Pier) was a great site and we saw many green sea turtles and small sharks!

We originally tried to book the Manta Plus Shark dive, but we were too late in the season. Maui Diving called us to let us know, and once we picked the Mala Plus Shore, they refunded us the difference between the two dives.

Great customer service!

I had an outstanding experience with Maui Diving from start to finish!

Jessy helped me schedule (and reschedule) my classes despite uncertainty in the time of COVID and made arrangements to help me feel safe.

Johnny and Heidi were fantastic instructors! I came to Maui Diving to get my Open Water Scuba Certification and they both made the entire process incredibly fun and safe. They not only kept us laughing, taught us the skills we needed efficiently, and showed us some incredible wildlife, but they made me feel so unbelievably safe and secure. I knew i was in good hands from the start.

Johnny was caring, an extremely good teacher, and taught us valuable skills I will continue to build on in future dives. He broke down the skills into digestible pieces that were easy to learn and process. His love of diving and for our oceans shined through and made me love the entire process even more. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher!

Heidi was also amazing. She was easygoing, very skilled, and kept us all in such high spirits throughout the dive. She also really helped break down the skills we were learning and apply them.

Highly recommend Maui Diving to anyone looking to get their scuba cert or go diving in Maui. You'll see just as I did that they offer superior service at a reasonable price and genuinely care about people who dive with them. 11/10!!

The diving experience as a whole was wonderful (dove the Mala Pier, and Black Rock, both shore dives), however the actual dive company operation was a bit lacking.

When we first arrived there I thought that their laid back attitude for time was nice and helped set the mood for a relaxing day of diving. This however seemed to be an all too common theme as it seemed like literally every checkpoint/transition point involved a really long winded, not so well worded or concise explanation. Keep in mind a lot of these long winded talks/explanations were while we're either in our wetsuits standing out in the middle of the sun, or loaded up with our gear (including our BCD's loaded up with 14+ lbs of weight as they didn't use any weight belts) about to walk 200+ meters to our dive site. On to of that, this is the only dive operation I've experienced that offers ZERO food or water to their guests. They do have a water jug in their main dive shop, but unless you have your own water bottle you're either out of luck or forced to buy a $5.00 bottle from them. I realize that what I signed up for was two shore dives, however for the price point, the least they could do would be to provide some bottles of water and fruit for their guests.

So ultimately like I said, the dives were wonderful, saw so many cool things in such a short amount of time, however the operation itself was lacking. I would recommend going with a different dive operation as this one seemed to REALLY rely on being a budget operation.

Two experiences with this shop. My boyfriend wanted to do a discover scuba so we signed up(I’m a certified diver but wanted to cheer him on). Kevin was the dive master and he was funny and informative all the while minding safety. The group was small and my boyfriend and I enjoyed the beginner dive.
Later that week I dove the airport and Mala pier with Hollis. She was great. Focused on safety and the skills of the group she guided all of us on our dive. She helped with gear, took photos of us underwater, and pointed out sharks, lizard fish, and other sea creatures. She even gave food recommendations on the island.
Booking was easy. Tyler at the front desk was helpful and courteous. Everyone was eager to show me new gear without being pushy on the sales front.
If I’m back in Maui, they’ll be one of the first calls I make.

My wife and I dove with Maui Diving for 3 days and had a blast. All three dives were lead by great divemasters. The shop and equipment is clean and new. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. We did the shark/manta dive, 5 caves and twilight/night and would recommend all three as they provide unique things to see. We will be back!

We had a very bad experience with Maui Diving. My wife and I were on our honeymoon in June 2022 and had a day planned to dive the Cathedrals off Lanai - we booked & paid for these two boat dives very early in January 2022.

We received a reminder email from Maui Diving the day before the dive (Friday morning), and I noticed my wife's height was incorrect so I called the shop that afternoon to change it. About an hour later (3:30 pm), I received an email from Maui Diving saying our Cathedrals dive was cancelled and we were refunded (nothing else was explained).

When I called the shop, they did not give me a straight answer so I suggested they cancel the last two people that booked their reservation since ours was booked so early 6 months prior. After many questions with few answers, they finally disclosed that an ex-employee booked our dive in their system but never booked it with the boat company (they share this boat with another dive shop). It was very unlucky that the other 18 divers on this full boat booked through the other dive shop, so Maui Diving did not have the power to cancel someone else for us.

We were able to do a shore dive with sharks & turtles Saturday afternoon (it was pretty cool), however, they still charged us full price and were not willing to discount it at all to make up for their horrible mistake cancelling our original cathedrals dive. At least it sounded like we were going to get a private dive with an instructor, however, we were placed with a family of four that booked a private dive (since they were beginners). The instructor was not aware of our situation, and it did not seem like the family knew we were joining their private dive. It was a sh** show and our dive only lasted 40 minutes due to this family's inexperience. Our dive master was great, though.

This whole customer experience was as bad as it gets, and I HIGHLY suggest booking through any other dive shop on Maui. Pro Diver was awesome (we did the Molokini back wall), however, they do not offer the Cathedrals dive.

We were on the dive with the reviewer below. I feel compelled to write a response to defend this dive shop and this dive master as the statements and attitude of the reviewer are unfoundedly negative. To be clear: Sarah, our dive master, was kind, friendly, experienced and knowledgeable. She may have only been on island for a short while, but she was clearly not incompetent. There was a minor medical emergency that she handled calmly and effectively. She was professional (despite being spoken to abhorrently by this reviewer) and communicative with the all of the divers in the situation, and throughout the day. I always knew what to expect and what the plan was. As for having to “schlep” our gear, we walked for 30-60 seconds to get to the shore. I am not an extremely advanced diver, but the conditions of the day were very similar to all my other shore dives. No, you can not just show up and expect not to lift a finger. Diving requires physical strength and a sense of personal responsibility. The reviewer did not seem equipped for that reality. Despite a dive with some unexpected changes, the only negative thing we had to say at the end of the day was about the attitude and rudeness of this reviewer (her husband and 11 year old son were both very nice). She was a negative force, not able to accept personal responsibility for her mistakes or inabilities and threw a couple of adult sized tantrums that had the rest of the divers feeling unanimously
uncomfortable.

In summary: my recommendation is to definitely check out Maui Dive Shop, the two sites we went to were excellent and the dive at Mala Wharf with dozens of sea turtles was one of our favourites!

Had a SPECTACULAR time here! Got my certification with Ashley, who was an incredibly patient and helpful teacher, especially as I struggled with some of the skills. She made me feel very safe, comfortable, and unjudged. I was so hooked that I immediately booked a fun dive the next day! Went out on the 5 Caves dive with Kevin, who was also amazing. Pointed out and identified some very cool animals (including sharks, eels, turtles, and four different species of nudibranchs!) He was also super helpful in helping me fine tune my newly acquired scuba skills. Both guides were also very friendly and fun to talk to above water - I couldn’t recommend them enough!

Everyone in the shop is also super friendly and accommodating! Always open to long strings of questions and conversations and went the extra mile to make sure I could schedule the 5 Caves dive last minute. All in all, this was a wonderful experience with wonderful people!

My only recommendation is to keep abreast of the snorkeling/diving locations in advance as much as you can. If you can help it, aim for days with prime conditions and dive as early in the morning as you can, because the choppy conditions that can happen later in the day reduce visibility and make it harder to swim. The only time I wasn’t having the time of my life was when the conditions started to get rougher (obviously not the shop’s fault. In fact, the guides helped ease a lot of the anxiety caused by less than ideal conditions and helped me get in and out of the water safely). This was rare though! Out of the 6 dives I took with Maui Diving, 5 had near perfect conditions!

After not diving in over 3 years, my wife and I booked the Refresher Course to get us in the water again. We were a little concerned the Refresher would be a lot of retraining and not much actual diving, but we were wrong. Our instructor, Johnny, was awesome and spent 15 mins indoors reviewing the most important concepts, and then we geared up for 2 full dives (at Old Airport and Mala Pier). Both were full-length dives, and the locations were great! Mala Pier was one of my favorite dives ever!
We had such a great time with the Refresher, we booked the 5 Caves Dive for the next day, where our second guide, Dave, took us cave diving. It was amazing and Dave was awesome to dive with!
