The Scotch Mist is a fantastic way to get out and enjoy the water. So great, that we went twice during our vacation.

For the first trip, six of us booked the sunset tour, with Captain Jason. The sail boat was full, but there was plenty of room for people to sit along the sides and front. The service was exceptional, and the crew was very friendly. The view was magnificent! Between the beautiful west Maui mountains, the surrounding islands, and the sunset, it was exquisite!

For the second trip, three of us booked the 11:30 adventure sail. Since nobody else signed up, they cancelled our trip, and offered to put us on any of the other trips. We chose the 2:00 trip the next day. Again, there were only three of us, but this time they took us out for a private tour. WOW! We had Captain Jason again, and I was amazed how he could turn the boat on a dime. We were sailing along the coast, and he noticed some whale watching boats gathered together. We headed in that direction, and some whales came right towards our sail boat. A mother whale, with her baby!!! They went right around and under us. Unbelievable!!! It was the trip of a lifetime!

We enjoyed our trip on Scotch Mist for the Lahaina Sunset in February 2022.
About 20 people, plus crew. Very friendly, appropriate safety precautions for a sailboat, and pleasant conversation with the other folks on board.

Sailing aboard the Scotch Mist gives you the chance to meet our other passengers and make new friends on Maui. Big plus for a small vessel and low passenger count. We look forward to your next sail with us soon. Aloha. Don Kidder, General Manager

What a romantic boat! The classy single hull gives such an authentic sailing experience. The champagne was flowing and we definitely got our afternoon sun in. It was so interesting to watch the Captain and the deck hand, Jason, communicate on when to raise the sails and how to pivot to go chase down the whales. We got super lucky and found a momma and a calf right away. It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon before our dinner reservations on Front St. It was so small and intimate, we were friends with our fellow passengers in no time and were all taking pictures for each other. Truly so unique. Next time I want to go on their snorkel trip!

On my recent 8 day trip to Maui we tried several times to book a tour on the 35' Scarab that Island Star Excursions offers but they were booked solid. Found the Scotch Mist by searching on line and despite a previous reviewers negative experience wiht the staff, we were thorougly impressed with the professionalism, proficiency and friendliness of the crew.

The boat itself is gorgeous and it was incredibly tranquil and relaxing to be making our way around Lahaina harbor without using the motor. We glided along effortlessly, with an ice-cold drink in our hands the entire time.

We were lucky enough to happen upon a very 'surface active' pod of whales. Three younger males courting and rather reluctant female. We saw more than a dozen surfacings with 30 foot plumes of hump-backed whale exhalations shooting into the air. We also had the pleasure of seeing several amazing whale tails and even had the female whale surface but a few yards off of our starboard side and then glide silently underneath the boat... her lightly colored pectoral fins shimmering ghost-like under the crystal clear azure waves.

Brad, Captain Christina (sp?) and first-mate Amy were all fantastic... outgoing and full of 'aloha spirit'. A class act from start to finish.

We are on a 35th anniversary trip and booked a sunset sail with Scotch Mist. We planned our weeks activities in part based on this excursion. We cut our days activities short to get ready to go to the loading dock in Lahaina and received a phone call that Scotch Mist was cancelling our trip because the others who were booked cancelled at the last minute so they did not have enough to make the trip unless we paid for 4 other tickets to meet their minimum. Poor business practice to cancel us on this special occasion at the very last minute. We are very disappointed in the way we were treated and handled. We can be held to a 24 or 48 hour minimum cancellation time frame but they can cancel minutes before the scheduled time.

I, sadly, cannot vouch for the sunset cruise itself as our sunset sail was canceled upon our arrival at the slip. My boyfriend and I were in Maui for a week, and made reservations with the Scotch Mist weeks before leaving the mainland. We were greeted at the boat with little zest and told "Oh, sorry, we tried calling you. The boat is rented out tonight for a private sail." We immediately asked what number they tried to call, as we both had our cell phones with us all day. The attendant rummaged through some papers and never came up with a phone number. She was not apologetic and would only offer to let us sail the next night. We explained that our itinerary was booked for the week and we couldn't simply adjust our schedules to accommodate their mis-bookings. Personally, we felt a bigger money-making opportunity came up and they took it. Just my two cents.

We rode the Scotch Mist for a Sunset Sail. The sailing and the sunset were wonderful. The ride is extremely quiet and relaxing, but the crew was average. We were supposed to received chocolate and champagne, but did not. Maybe they were just having a bad day?

Booked the Scotch Mist sunset sail for our last night in Maui. The reviews were great and we looked forward to the only true sailboat in Maui to end our trip!

Unfortunately, late morning of the day of the trip, they decided they didn't sell enough tickets and cancelled on us 6 hours prior to departure! We had planned our trip around our activities and had no way to accept their "alternate dates"! Worst part of the last minute cancellation was all the other sunset cruises in Maui were sold out! Now we are left with no time to find another option and the trip is over!

I would never book a trip with an operator that treats customers this way. I understand there are costs associated with taking the boat out, but make a call early enough to allow options and god forbid, maybe even try to help make alternate arrangements instead of "sorry, we are not sailing today"! This is no way to run a business that depends on satisfied customers. Stay away!!!

Perfect sunset sail, very nice boat. Crew was very friendly (Kristen was captain, Amy from Australia was crew), very talkative, very attentive to everyone. Always ready with a refill of our champagne, and offered chocolate as well. Let us move around the boat as we pleased, answered all of our questions and did a great job sailing the boat. Well positioned for the sunset.

After a bad sail on America II the night before, this was perfect.

We've enjoyed sunset sails in Cubs, Florida, Key West and Maui; all of which were extremely memorable. This sail could have been just a lovely, except for the generously served drinks.
It escalated to the point where one FAIRLY intoxicated guy sn tumble and fell over on an unexpecting female passenger. Prior to this happening, THE CREW KEPT SERVING this guy, and anyone else who was up for it, even more drinks even though it was more than obvious it was getting out of hand.
I had asked that they slow up on serving more drinks, but they just ignored me altogether.
Fortunately, the woman was only roughed up alittle and not injured. Also, I was glad her husband/boyfriend didn't get overly upset.
Our experiences with sunset sails have always been romantic, relaxing and very memorable. It was our last evening in Maui and we had wanted to make it special by sailing on the Scotch Mist; it was ruined since the crew caused the situation to escalate.
I've also enjoyed party boat cruises, but I had expected an amazing sunset sail, not an unnerving experience due to over drinking.
