This is the home of the largest Buddha statue outside of Japan. It's really impressive. You can also ring the prayer bell.

I've attended this mission's Obon Festival for the past three years. I am not a member of the Buddhist community per se, but I do love cultural events and learning, and I have a deep respect for anyone practicing compassion. This mission invites everyone to take part in their floating lantern ceremony - honoring ancestors who have passed, and to... More

I look forward to summers because Lahaina Jodo hosts the biggest Japenese Obon festive on the ISLAND (including the only lantern ceremony).

For anyone that follows the Buddhist religion, or appreciates the Buddha's beliefs, this place is worth checking out while in Lahaina. Easy to get to and parking is available. You just walk right in and donations are appreciated. It is just a quiet and peaceful place, free for the public to walk around. It is a very small and quaint... More

We arrived in the late afternoon there were families with children gathering for some good fellowship. So pleasant in touristy Lahaina. The mission grounds are beautiful, this is a site you must see regardless of your religious persuasion.

The Jodo Mission has the largest Budda statue outside of the Orient. It is located in a quiet corner of Lahaina and we were the only people at the mission when we visited. It had a pagoda, a traditional gong with a tree trunk striker, and a rock garden. It's a nice place to visit if you want to get... More

Wonderful to see. Impressive statue of Budda, gong & temple. Felt very peaceful. Puuphi cemetery across the street. Hidden gem away from the tourist traps.

Who expects to see a 90 foot pagoda when in Maui? Not us, but it was fun to go see and photograph the Buddah, Pagoda and Church.

Buddha statue and temple is worth half an hour. You can view the statue with the mountains behind it and the small temples.
