The old is the wondrous tree, the historical Courthouse, and the step back in time to a reminder of what old Hawaii once was. The new is a bit more nuanced. On one hand, there are the homeless and the smell of weed (not dangerous, just a little sad). On the other hand, one has the creativity of artisans and... More

Everytime we visit Maui we stop and visit this large banyan tree. My father in law on a previous visit told his grandchildren how he and many other sailors from the Battleship Tennessee would sit under the tree while on liberty during WW Ii.

This tree spreads a whole city block and has seen a lot of history since it was planted in 1873. The adjacent old courthouse is well worth a visit if you are at all interested in the Hawaiian culture and history

Bask in the shade of this beautiful old Bayan. Musicians often play here, so take a lunch & enjoy the shade.

This park is fun to walk around. During the day they had an art fair which was fun to see what local people are making.

Most weekends there is a nice variety of crafters selling art, jewelry, pottery, sometimes food. Sometimes there is entertainment, crafters usually have items that are locally made. The size and age of the banyan tree alone is impressive to see. The old courthouse has a gift shop, art gallery featuring local artists, information booth and historical information.

Something that you don't see anywhere else: a tree so wide with multiple roots. In a hot humid day it's so pleasant to enjoy its shade.

An amazing tree that has been cultivated to shade the park - it is a welcome respite from the Heat of a Lahaina day. Under the Banyon tree you often have craft events like local artists selling paintings, prints and other crafts. You can go out in the forest and see the Banyon trees in the wild but this one...
