Banyan trees are amazing and the ones in this park are excellent species, but there are Banyan trees all over Hawaii. If you are walking the main street in Lahaina, the trees are definitely worth a look.
This park is difficult to miss if staying in Lahaina because it is in the heart of Front Street. When we visited local artists sold their art and treasures in the park. I was able to pick up a watercolor and a pair of earrings...More
If your going to Lahaina, this is a must see, according to locals, it's the biggest tree in the states (Not tallest) and the best thing about it is, it does not cost anything to look at and there is no state tax to pay,...More

I don't know the answer to your question but if you can remember any store or restaurant names where he was around, I would call them and ask for help. If it was in the park, try calling the old courthouse.
