Good spot to be seen falling
This is one of the premium beginner surf spots on Maui, with excellent parking (fills up fast) and a baby pool entry to the waves that save your feet from coral. Here you can learn to surf without worrying about your dignity, on smallish dependable waves that don’t require a enormous long paddle. The vibe is friendly, and the park is equipped with showers and a bathroom. And if you do fall off your board, no one will notice, so concentrated are they on their own looming debilities.

    Perfect for kids
This is the second time we’ve come to this beach, once each trip to Maui. The rock wall provides a little lagoon, protected from the ocean where the little kids can come and play in the ocean without the fear of the strength of the ocean. It’s got a nice sandy beach, water up to about knee height for adults, and big enough for more than a couple families to play in. The other portion of the beach, outside the little lagoon is nice and sandy, with a long clear area to relax and play directly in the ocean. Trees there provide nice shade, and there are BBQ and table areas, along with decent bathrooms.

    Perfect beginner waves
This is such an amazing place to try surfing. The waves are just the right size for beginners and are spaced nicely. We visited three times during our week-long trip, twice with rented surfboards and once with boogie boards. We had a wonderful time here. Friendly locals gave us surfing advice and it was fun to watch tiny children so capable at navigating the waves and standing up on tiny surfboards or even boogie boards! If the parking lot is full, there’s a big overflow lot just on the other side of the highway.

We wanted to take our young grandchildren to a beach for the day that was safe for them. This beach park was perfect. There is a small inlet blocked off by rocks that is very safe for small children to swim. The water only gets maybe 3' at the deepest point. It was more than perfect for our 1.5 and 4 year old grandchildren. There was public restrooms, tons of shade and a shower for after your swim. Parking may be the only issue but we found after a few minute wait we were able to find a spot.

We love going to this beach park when we’re on the west side. It’s an expansive beach park with lots of shade besides the beach. There’s a little pool that fills up when the tide comes in that’s great for kids. There can be good boogie boarding and surfing when the conditions are right. Lots of picnic tables for use with a full bathroom and the outdoor beach showers. Parking can be difficult on the weekends.

We were staying in Ka'anapali and it was raining so we took off for a drive to find a dry beach. We stumbled upon Launiupoko Beach Park and ended up spending the entire day. The water was tame and warm enough to swim, there was a lot of shade, the sand was very soft. There are bathroom facilities, picnic tables, bbq grills. There is a small ocean pool that is perfect for toddlers to play in. Next to that was a tide pool filled with cool fish and crabs to observe. We saw tons of whales breaching in the distance throughout the day, and it was fun to watch the people learning how to paddle board. Very calm, relaxing day at the beach! While it rained all day at our hotel, it was dry and sunny here.

We were recommended this beach from TA experts! Definitely a top beach for families with younger children or people unexperienced with swimming in the open ocean. Our children loved it, we even spotted a few turtles. Not much of a sandy beach and the waves were large, outside of the protected cove.
*Wear sandals as the grassy area has hidden prickles that are hard on the feet

If you're into giant, colorful coral heads that nearly touch the water's surface, this is the place for you! Take a paddle board out and you'll see them and the undersea life that goes with them for miles. What I don't get is why beginner surfers and paddleboard surfers are so attracted to this place.

The break is riddled with coral, making falling in a dicey matter, but there is a little protected lagoon that's perfect for those with very young children. There is some shade for full sun days, and, according to one of my kids, the opportunity for celebrity sightings. (James Hetfield was there that day, whoever that is.) A monk seal had settled down for a long winter's nap that day, too, making for photo opps for both the paparazzi AND nature nerds like me.

Water shoes, IMHO, are a must for swimming, as the coral and rocks begin almost at the water line. Bring beach chairs--the sand is hard and not as sugary as you'll find at Kaanapali.

Parking in the adjacent lot is extremely limited. Get there early, and if there's a birthday party there, as there was the day we visited, you're hoofing it to the lot across the street. It's a great getaway non-resort beach that's still plenty friendly and provides the essentials like shower and restroom.

Located at the very southern end of Lahaina, before you join Highway 30 to continue south, this beach is popular with surfers and paddleboarders. It has a beautiful view of Lanai and the West Maui mountains with lots of shade options.

Great for surfing. Nice shady spot with restrooms, showers and lots of space. Not suitable for swimmers except the natural "pool" area for the little ones. Just a 10 min drive from Lahaina. Parking on the spot but could be tight on busy days (weekends). Caution! Someone gently stole my surfing booties a few yards from my chair. Definitely not cool!

As a visitor, we loved the beach at Launiupoko State Park. Parking was limited even at 9:00 A.M. and I can only guess it gets worse as the day goes on. Lots of trees provide lots of shade so you shouldn’t need an umbrella. I’m not sure about the daily tide schedule, but when we were there you could only walk the beach to the right of the park. To the left was all rocks and ocean and no beach sand. A rock barrier creates a perfect tide pool for the little ones. Restrooms and showers available.

Grew up swimming, barbeques, party's and surfing at this park. It has beautiful views of Lanai. This park has a man made ocean pool. It has places for picnics and barbeque grill. It's several miles from Lahainal. It's a popular spot so parking can be hectic. Make sure that you drop by and enjoy this beach.

Outside of town, this park is a welcome respite from the crowds of Lahaina or the big resorts. You feel like a local in this spot that is popular with surfers. Even if you don't surf, it's fun to watch the bobbing bodies waiting for the good wave.

It's a great place to spend time alone reading a book or just chilling. It's also perfect for groups, with lots of room to spread out and picnic tables for meals. When the tide is up, there's a shallow swimming hole that is just perfect for the little ones. You can put a towel on the beach or sit in the shade in the grass.

There is onsite parking but not a lot so get there early if you want a space.
