I returned to Maui after my last visit a year ago and did another set off lessons with Maui Surf Clinics – both a SUP tour with Kat and 4 surf lessons with Jedi. I had both instructors last year as well. They are awesome. I am learning these two new activities in my sixtieth year. My instructors were not only kind, patient, with good senses of humour ( a key component to any learning endeavour), but also constructively critical as they endeavour to pull the best out of me. They are not just concerned about my being able to do “it” , but that I learn proper techniques, stay safe and develop some style. While I still have an awful lot learn as there are so many layers, I am really enjoying the journey toward mastering the art of surfing. I will be back next year to continue this exciting and fun journey with Maui Surf Clinics. Mallhalo Rachel

I was very nervous about going far out given that I cannot float but they reassured me that even further out the water was still shallow enough and I would be ok. Billy was my instructor and was awesome. He gave me the encouragement to keep going and learn what was working and what I could do better. I got up three times and rode my wave which was the best. So happy I tried this and can’t wait to go back.

When we discussed going to Hawaii for Christmas, my 22 year old son's first desire was to take a surfing lesson. His Dad went with and they both really enjoyed it! Their instructor was Jedi, who was a very cool surfer dude, very patient and encouraging throughout the 2-hour lesson. Prompted me to be ready for pics. Take advantage of the restaurant a adjacent to the beach where you will get the first bit of the lesson. Food is great and you must meet Frenchie. He's an enjoyable waiter!

My husband and I did a 2 hour lesson with Jason. It was fabulous. They gave us swim shirts and water shoes. They provided boards. The waves near the facility were just right for beginners. Jason was great at explaining things and making us feel comfortable. He never seemed bored or distracted-- even though we were total beginners. He was so very encouraging and helpful. I was able to surf successfully probably 8-10 times during the lesson. Thank you Jason!! The whole thing was very fun and very physically taxing. We would do it again in a heartbeat-- and I would recommend Maui surf clinic every time. Kristin helped us check in and put us at ease. She was very nice and down to earth. Don't miss out on the chance of a lifetime! Sign up!

My boyfriend and I took a lesson with MSC in December 2019 with Jason as our instructor and it was a fantastic experience. When we came back to Maui, I decided to sign us up for another lesson. This time we had Jedi as an instructor. He was hilarious and regaled us with stories and information about Maui and the ocean. After a brief land session where we reviewed technique and did some dry runs of getting up, we were off to the "bunny hills" as Jedi called them. We found the waves stronger than the last time we came so we were both pretty pooped at the end of our session. Jedi was attentive and would recognize even before we did that we either needed a break or were done for the day. There was also a moment when Jedi saved me from being karate chopped in the head by my board after I fell off. Though I think we may have been able to rent boards to try to surf, I felt far more comfortable knowing Jedi was there watching us and keeping us safe. You can't go wrong with MSC if you're looking for lessons. Both the instructors we've had have been excellent and made us feel comfortable, encouraged and safe. You can tell they are experienced instructors and not just people who picked up surfing a few years ago. They also have a ton of certifications and training from what Jedi said. I will probably take another lesson next time we're in Maui. It is well worth the money! Also, Kat at the front desk was lovely and so welcoming. She managed to snap a quick video of us surfing but I do wish there was an option to have a couple photos shot that people can purchase after like some other surf schools have. If the whole group is surfing then it's impossible to get a good photo.
