The Baldwin Home was built in 1834 and served as the home of a practicing physician, Rev. Dwight Baldwin who is credited for saving the people of Maui, Molokai and Lanai from the scourge of smallpox during the terrible epidemic of 1853. The home itself, its household furniture, aged photographs, artifacts, displays and library present a fascinating picture of the busy Sandwich Isles life as lived by a missionary who was both a physician and a constructive community force.

Inside most of the objects are recreated but the volunteer wardens chat away and are very informative. You really get a feel for how it might have been. Definitely worth a visit. Nice benches outside in the front too for a rest in the shade....More

The docent here is so talkative that you'll learn more about him than this house. Objects aren't original. I like historical structures but this one isn't the worth the $10 admission. The antique medical implements are interesting.

We enjoyed our visit to this museum. Basically they have taken the original house and recreated the rooms as they would have been when the Baldwin's were there as missionaries. The only thing missing was the kitchen, but that is in the works. Loved the...More

The local tour guide was a walking treasury of Lahaina history and was very gracious and patient. Definitely a must see if you're into Hawaiian history.

Even though you might be here just for beach activities, you should definitely take time to visit this and the other museums on the island. It gives you an authentic view of how the first leading family lived. The staff is also very pleasant and...More

Located on Front St the home is open to view and see. Furnished in the period and worth the time to see - purchase a history pass to see this and other Museums in Maui. Interesting to see and try to understand

Local History is plentiful at the Baldwin Home Museum on Front Street. One hour would be a long time to spend at this location.

Friendly folks, a New England style home adapted to Hawaii is a precious glimpse into the life of the missionaries in Hawaii. There's a "passport" option that allows visiting multiple historical sites on Maui. Great deal and interesting locations.

We have appreciated and liked all the docents we've met on the museum tours on Maui. We bought the "Passport to the Past" package (a real deal!). Gregory at the Baldwin Home Museum energetically brings history to life. He tells great stories. A former New...More

Greg did a great and job of explaining the background and history of the Baldwins and the house dating back to the 1830s. Restored about 60 years ago around the stone wall remains of the original house, it has been furnished with many period pieces...More
