- Douglas DSouth Lake Tahoe, California13 contributionsA fun, tasty and informative tour! This is a fun and casual way to spend a couple hours in the afternoon. My wife and I went with another couple; we all had a great time walking around the goat farm. (It’s not a lot of walking but some of it is on dirt/gravel roads). You get to feed the young goats and the young kids especially enjoyed that aspect of the tour. So did I! If you purchase a cheese tasting plate it comes with crackers for tasting. We enjoyed our tasting experience and added a Charcuterie Board to our tasting. It was also great. We happened to do the tour right before the afternoon milking, so we got to see the goats being milked. Very interesting. Definitely worth the visit.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 18, 2023
- FRodriguez33 contributionsGreat experienceFun feeding the goats and informative information about the goats they raise on the farm. Definitely get the goat cheese platter and chocolates that they make. Also visit the store and get some goat milk soap.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 24, 2023

We tried chocolate truffles and a flight of 6 different goat cheeses. It was affordable and educational! New opportunities for different experiences since the last time we visited! We’ve already discussed, “the next time we visit!” We should have bought more cheese and truffles!Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 14, 2024
- Brook R5 contributionsMost fun experience in Upcountry!Surfing Goat Dairy is a must do for our family, each time we go to Maui. Baby goats! Need I say more? After a tour, take the time to get a cheese plate and enjoy the atmosphere. Then it’s on to another upcountry adventure!Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 14, 2024
- Lian C1 contributionLovely farm visit, fun and educational! We had a wonderful 'evening chore & milking tour,' in which we toured the ranch, fed a herd of goats, met and fed a buck, watched two herds moving back to their pasture, learned to milk goats, and got all our questions about milking, birthing, and the kid goats answered. Our 6 yo child was put at ease and had a great time. Our guide was eager to share her love and knowledge of the goats and it felt like being shown around by an old friend.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 13, 2024
- Trina C60 contributionsFantastic “Kid Experience!”We visited the “Kid experience.” We were the only folks there lacking our own personal children, but we enjoyed it just as much as adults! The guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly and the baby goats (3-9 days old!) were obviously very loved and taken care of! The road up is a bit twisty and turny, so if that isn’t your thing, I’d suggest grabbing some Gravol-type stuff before your drive. An excellent way to spend a hour or so!!Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 23, 2024
- @Safari75669422 contributionsBaby goat cuddles!Had a great time with the baby goats! We did the “kid experience” for the best goat therapy ever. There’s a new look and feel to Surfing Goat Dairy, well worth a trip to Kula. Highly recommend the banana bread, cheese flight and truffles while you are there!Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 29, 2024
- Engelland Family19 contributionsFun day trip!Lovely little farm bursting with adorable, friendly goats. The kid pens are just a joy, watching the spunky littles bounce up and down on their surfboards! Knowledgeable tour guide shared about the animals and cheese and truffle making and gave lots of opportunity to interact with the goats. The cheese flight is a must! My only suggestion is to offer wine to pair with their delicious cheese!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 14, 2024
- Ronda LTroy, Michigan32 contributionsNothing Cuter than Baby Goats! If you like baby goats, you will love Surfing Goat Dairy. We did the experience where you get to play with the babies for 30 minutes. There were enough babies in the pen for each person to have one to hold or play with. The employees were friendly and informative. There is a small gift shop. Pretty drive to the property. We went to Ocean Vodka Distillery after for a tour/dinner - it is less than 5 minutes away. Nice afternoon in the upcountry.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 18, 2024

January 7, 2020 10 am 30 minute tour.
We visited the farm this morning with our 3 year old twins. The tour started late even though the participants were all ready. The guide never once smiled and was more concerned about completing the tour on time than making space for questions or enjoyment. The twins were very well behaved, but the farm should let guests know that children under 5 are not appreciated on the tour. Not all the cheese samples are even kid friendly. During the cheese tasting we asked if one of the twins could have a sample other than the spicy jalapeño cheese and our guide refused to give a sample our kids could eat even though we had paid for the children. That pretty much ended the experience for us. And no, we did not purchase any cheese.
If we had just visited on our own it would have been much more fun as the guide made the experience pretty negative. We all enjoyed seeing the goats, especially the newborn goats. If you are there with kids just visit, don’t pay for the tour.

We are a family of 4, with 2 kids (ages 12 and 5). Overall we had an ok time here, but all in all, I am not sure if it was really worth it, since we paid about $60 to see the goats and for their casual tour, and almost $20 for their cheese sampling mix. The highlight was my daughter holding the 10 day old baby goat. If you're looking to kill some time after say Haleakala summit or summit (like we did), go for it. But I wouldn't go all the way here just for this tour, to be honest.

After spending many days swimming and snorkeling at the beautiful beaches, we decided to take in some of the sights up the mountains in Kula. Surfing Goats was one of our favorite destinations. We did the 1/2 hour tour which included petting and feeding the adorable goats, learning about the humane farming practices, and how the cheese is made. For $15 we shared a flight of various cheeses, which were excellent and for another $6 we split a piece of the most scrumptious cheesecake I’ve ever tasted in my life. Book online ahead of time as tours fill up fast and if you’re interested in a tasting of vodka and rum at the Ocean Vodka farm next door, book that for right after.

I feel completely ripped off.
My family of 3 paid $52 when we booked a tour in advance. The “tour” consisted of a very uninformed lady leading us into a field where goats were kept and pointing them out by name and telling us we could pet them if we wanted. There is an are of the farm where guests can let the baby goats even without paying for the tour. After the goat field, we were led to the area where the goats are milked and she basically pointed to it and gave a very general icier view of the procedure. No goats actually were being milked so it was really just a somewhat closer view of equipment than what you get when you use the restroom, which is located nearby.
Not so much as a spoonful of goat cheese was included in the tour, which lasted fifteen minutes, tops.
Do not waste your money on this tour. Opt instead for the distillery tour next door which offers a MUCH better value and experience.

We booked the Daily Casual Tour and ordered a flight of goat cheese. The tour itself was really interesting, our guide gave us a walk through the farm and we got the feed the goats. Our guide was really passionate when it came to the animals, you could tell that these animals are in good hands. I recommend bringing sunscreen and sun protection if you go on the tour, you're out in the sun with no shade when you're doing the feeding.
We headed over to the milking station after the feeding where our guide talked about the milking process, they also have their own pasteurizers onsite. Unfortunately, with the majority of their clients being hotels and restaurants, they aren't doing any milking on the farm due to COVID. If I recall correctly, they only had 2-3 babies on the farm this year, and it has been slow for them.
The flight of cheese was awesome at the end of the tour, we ended up buying 6 different types of cheeses back to the mainland and got a cooler bag as a part of our purchase.
Please come out to support this local business if you're in the area! You can tell that the owners and the staff love these animals and believe in the work that they're doing!

They offer an $8 tour which lets you feed pregnant goats and learn about the milking process. At the end you can sample the cheese. You can buy flights to eat there along with lunch items. It’s a peaceful place to spend a morning or afternoon. The goats really do get on their surfboards, lol. You can buy cheese to take home and they even ship.

We did the evening tour where we toured the grounds and milked the goats. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about how the goats are born, bred, and milked and we enjoyed seeing the dozens of baby goats on the farm. We also recommend purchasing the $20 cheese flight where we got samples of six delicious cheeses and crackers.
We would do this tour again with our grandchildren but probably not on our own -- we'd just buy the cheese!

We got in town on Sunday and went up on Monday only to find out that they are closed on Mondays. So went back on Tuesday to purchase cheese for our stay. At this time of year, mid April the kids are plentiful anf very cute. it is worth the stop just to them. Go and enjoy, and remember Ocean Distillery is just around the corner.

Our guide was Lorelei [sp?] who had a nice personality and knew her stuff. As we waited for the tour to begin, we got to watch three-month-old kids cavorting around their yard. Then our guide led us to a pasture to feed the friendly mature goats while telling about the history of the dairy. Then we visited the milking station and heard about its operation. Lastly, there was a cheese tasting, although I passed on trying the jalapeno cheese and the horse radish cheese. I wanted to purchase their tasty cheese with herbs, but the gift shop clerk was pretty busy so we left. Not a fancy tour but quite enjoyable.

We really enjoyed our visit upcountry, the tour, feeding the goats and learning about the business. We found it to be very informative and a good experience being largely unfamiliar with goats, their horns, the role of each gender or milking processes.
After our tour, we ordered a cheese sampler which includes crackers (Gluten Free crackers offered too) and a six pack of goat cheese & chocolate truffles to go ($15).
If you’re making a day of it, consider a visit/tour of Maui Wine and bringing a bottle with you for your goat cheese tasting. In terms of eateries, our bucket list is infilled in that we didn’t make it to Sansei, which has a location nearby because they were fully committed.

We are wondering if cheese tasting is included with the price of the $12 basic tour. It seems some people say it is, and others say they had to pay another $15 for a cheese sampler? Thanks!

You need to pay additionally for the cheese sample. It’s worth it.

How can I book for 1 adult? It only gives me option for 2 people or more on the website. I’m solo traveling in Hawaii and wanted to see the goats

Which tours gives you the option to milk a goat and have cheese tasting? We have a 4 year old and 6.5 year old, will they be better suited for the evening chores or grand tour? Thank you!
Written March 27, 2018
When we were there it was pouring rain so I don’t have an complete answer. I would choose daytime, all goats were awake and alert.
Enjoy!

I love goats and this looks like a lot of fun. Is it possible to milk the goats as well? If so, when is milking time? Do they have any cheeses that are rennet free? Mahalo!
Written August 8, 2017
No, I don't believe there is goat milking available. They have a highly mechanized method to milking goats, and I don't believe any milking is done by hand. Also, they have a set recipe for the goat cheese, so, I doubt they have any that is minus the rennet...they talked about this during the tour ("This is the room where the milk comes in, rennet is added...").
Written August 8, 2017
Do you have to pay for a tour to see,pet and feed the goats? We have a toddler that would love the goats but won't be interested in a tour or eating the cheese.
Written June 5, 2017
Yes there is a a fee for the tours. You do not have to take the tour(s). You see the goats as you drive up to the main building. You can also feed and pet the baby goats. Hope this helps.

Hi. Will be visiting with family inc retired & kids / so all ages. Just wondering what the drive from Lahina is like out to the farm??? Will have a mini van.

It is an easy drive but a long way to go to just see the Goat Farm, try to stop at some other places along the way or further out. I believe Ocean Vodka is nearby too.

How long are newborn kids allowed to be with their moms?
Written March 6, 2015
The babies are taken away from their moms right after birth. The reason for this is as follows:
We did used to leave them with their mommies all the time in previous years. With our Hawaiian weather and plenty pasture allow our goats to stay day and night outside. What a life!
When the does are with kids this also means, feisty kids sucking from which teat they can get hold of, spreading bacteria and parasites from doe to doe, from kid to kid. We ended up with a lot of sick kids and does. We even lost milking does each kidding season.
Kids also got sick, because they drank from dirty udders, just getting up from the dust or worse.
So, after 8 years we decided to go the way of all commercial dairies and hand raise our kids with heat treated colostrum and pasteurized milk.
And?...,
No doe died in her nursing time.
We do not have outbreaks of diseases any more.
We can make sure, that each kid gets, what it needs.
We are sure all kids have shelter in the wind or rain.
We can check in minimum three times daily, how they are doing.
And they are doing great!
