We had the most amazing experience from the moment we were very warmly welcomed by Jan, the hostess, to the phenomenal service of Lindsey and all the other great staff here. They truly made the visit so special and welcoming. it's just the best aloha spirit of all the places we have gone on Maui.
I think others have inappropriately vented their anger at the fact that they don't understand how popular Maui is right now for tourism and reservations are required almost everywhere. And yes, you do need to make reservations well in advance because space is limited in all restaurants.
And there are times that perhaps a table is not available even with a reservation because this is an intimate setting with uncrowded conditions and maybe the previous guests took a bit longer than expected. If that's the case, relax, you are on Maui. Go for a walk in the beautiful gardens and enjoy the surroundings. This is not a Chick-fil-A joint that churns em through, it's a relaxing and reviving experience we highly recommend.
Maui is no different than the rest of the US with the economy humming along and worker shortages, so we always book well in advance and have the most enjoyable and amazing experience. Don't come if you are planning to rush past the beauty of the grounds and the wonderful people there, come and savor the wine, the food, the great staff and the ambiance!
Just beautiful unique gardens while you sit on the patio of a very historic building with wonderful wines and delectable noshes to accompany it. But really it is the people that work there who make such a difference.
We just want to say mahalo nui loa to all the staff at Maui Winery. Can't wait to return!

Here's the scoop on MauiWine and what to expect:
Before anything else, know that you need to make a reservation. The pamphlets and ads you see for this place don't mention that but we saw people being turned away because they didn't make a reservation. I would be furious because It's a long drive up country to get there and there's not much else to do in that part of the island.
If you know much about wine you'll already be wondering how good their wine can possibly be and let's face it, this is not a NAPA calibre winery. The most interesting thing to taste is their pineapple wine, just so you've had the experience. There's no actually winery to tour, no grapes being crushed. It's just a cafe with some light appetizers and their wines on the menu to try. It's a bit of a tourist trap to be honest.
With that said, it's a quaint, well-run place. The pineapple wine is interesting, especially the dry sparkling version. The food was excellent. We had some nice brie with nuts and guava jelly. So bottom line, if you're looking for a break from the beach in Maui and want to get away from the heat and crowds, this place is a great excuse to make an excursion to Maui "Up Country" as they call it. The drive and views are the real event but MauiWine is a great excuse to drive to a part of the island you might not otherwise visit. Oh and this goes without saying but don't bring kids.

This place sounded quite pretentious from their website and since we were traveling with kids, we didn't plan to visit. But, spontaneously we decided to swing by and check it out. Since we didn't have a reservations we weren't surprised when they told us they were booked. We went inside to purchase a couple of bottles of wines and the bartender did allow us a taste before we purchased. I was actually pleasantly surprised that they were more kid friendly that they appeared online and the staff was quite friendly.
A couple was asking the bartender if their children could run around the yard while they sat inside and had a tasting so I suppose that's why they appear unfriendly online - to discourage unsupervised children.

Very much enjoyed our trip to MauiWine. Because COVID has changed everything, I look at the websites prior to going any where. MauiWine REQUIRES a free reservation. Super easy to do online. We were a little early and they were able to seat us 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time. Everyone was nice and helpful. We were a group of 4 adults, with only two of us doing the wine tasting. We ordered other drinks and appetizers and all was perfect. Casual atmosphere.

Aloha Carolee,
Thank you for visiting us with your group! We are so happy to know that the online reservations made the scheduling part easy. But the best part of hearing about your experience is that all was perfect.
Thank you again for joining us and we look forward to seeing you again!

This was my 2nd visit in two months where the hostess, Jan, was rude, entitled and unwilling to work with a visiting reservation.
Even with loosened Maui restrictions, the hostess was unwilling to seat our party of 8. Our table had 8 seats but we were told we couldn’t have 8 people sitting there because there “would be too many glasses for the server”.
A couple at the table next to us offered to move so we could split our party of 8 up between two tables and Jan the hostess told them “oh no that’s not necessary”, even after they insisted. There were 4 open 2/3 tops this couple could have swapped to, and Jan insisted they stay at their 4 top.
It seems Jan was determined on separating our group of locals among the tourists. Really disappointed in her attitude on both of our visits Today and back in September.

I recently visited MauiWine a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. Although its a little off the beaten path its a unique experience, with jaw dropping views of the island and ocean, and good wine. This is the perfect place for wine lovers or if you want to see more of rural Maui not the super touristy spots. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable about the winemaking process of their traditional reds and whites, but also their pineapple wine which was very interesting to try. I actually had a mix up with my reservation dates and instead of the staff getting frustrated or making us wait a long time for a table. They immediately went into action to accommodate us even though it was my mistake. I am so appreciative they turned around the whole experience for my family and I. I strongly encourage you make reservations because we went within the first hour of them opening on a Thursday and they were already busy. Overall 10 out of 10, I will definitely be back.

Very much worth the trip over to the winery. make sure you book a free reservation so you are guaranteed a table which was easy to do. grounds are pretty and the wine is good. flights are about $12 for three small pours and a glass is reasonable They can pack up your wine for your luggage or ship it to most states. The goat cheese and crackers were great too. They are adding onto their current area and it can only get better. Everyone there was more than friendly to us and noticed that they greeted regulars like family.

Maui wine is known for their pineapple wine. They have a good selection of wines to choose from to taste, and purchase.
It is recommended that you schedule a reservation for wine tasting so they know you are coming, and you get in easily. They do book up on the weekends, and not as easily to work in a walk up group for tasting. Joe was our server, wine pourer, for this visit. He is very knowledgeable of the wine, and alcohol laws on the island. Joe was fun as we had several fun interactions joking around.
We look forward to visiting again in future visits to Maui.

We loved visiting this winery! The tour was nice and we enjoyed trying the wines from Hawaii. Pineapple wine is very different and a unique experience. I would recommend going and sitting on the porch with a glass of wine and admiring the views. You will remember this place forever!

We last visited this winery 15 years ago to taste the pineapple wine. This time, we wanted to try the grape sourced wines as well as the pineapple wines. While the wines were less than my favorites (other than the sparkling whites which I thought were pretty good), the setting and guide (Arianna) were very nice.We enjoyed the event and thought the guide was knowledgeable and helpful. I might not do it every trip to Maui but I would do it every few years. The drive was not difficult or unpleasant and the scenery was beautiful.

Do you only offer the jail house tour once a day at 11:30? Our plane does not get there until 12:30. Planning going to your winery in afternoon and having dinner st Mama’s Fish House at 4:30.

I agree with the others. I don't know where you're planning to stay, but the winery and the restaurant are not near each other - pretty much opposite directions. The highway to the winery is gorgeous - if you're attempting the Road to Hana, and considering doing it reverse, you'll hit the winery as one of the first stops and you won't be rushing. Enjoy - we loved our trip!

is there a tour which has the pineapple farms, and the tpur of how actually the pineapple wine is made?
something similar to the vineyards

MauiWine doesn't actually have a pineapple farm; they only grow grapes on the property. They buy the pineapples from other farms on the island. However, they do show you the machines used from processing the pineapples on the tour, although you won't get to see them in action.

Do we need to book a complementary 30min tour ahead? Or can just show up at the right time?

I don't think you necessarily need to on account of any rule, but space might be limited and thus considering the length of the drive needed to get here, it would certainly be safer to book ahead. Call the winery and ask--that is for sure the safest way to find out everything relevant to your decision. Good luck with your visit.

Yes you can in some states. If you type in Maui wine you should be able to pull up what states sale it. I know Kansas does not. CO. does. I am not sure what other sates do
