About
MauiWine, open since 1974, is located in Kula, Maui. Known for estate-grown wines, traditional method sparkling wines, and pineapple wines. We invite you to experience this place and these wines. Join us at a table in the King's Cottage for wine flights, wines by the glass, and wine cocktails. Discover an elevated way to see and taste Maui. RESERVATIONS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED! We often fill all of our tables with online and phone reservations. We do our best to accommodate walk-ins that arrive at the winery without a reservation, but please note that quoted wait times can be long and we do not designate tables for walk-in only use. Please don't hesitate to plan ahead. We accept reservations 30 days in advance via phone and website. Guests order from a menu of wine flights, wine by the glass, wine cocktails, and a small selection of food. We offer seated service, no standing at the bar. There is not a set price for wine tasting and no payment is required to book a reservation.

    Nice place to visit
Must have reservations… walk ups wait 30-45 min. It’s a nice venue with great views of mountain side, park, ocean. The only negative is they were understaffed and it took a while for the sommeliers to attend to you, unlike other wine tastings that do one pour at a time with detailed explanations, here they give you a flight with minimal explanations
Good to hear you enjoyed the ambiance. Mahalo for choosing to spend an afternoon with us. We apologize for the longer than expected wait time but we appreciate the feedback as we will strive to improve explaining our selection of wines in more detail.

Fresh food and interesting wines in a charming setting!
Our visit exceeded (admittedly modest) expectations. The setting is beautiful following a lovely drive into the UpCountry from Kihei (the drive is worth it alone for views). It was a lovely combination of art, history, food and wine. We tried the two wine flight options and a couple of additional samples, along with a selection of their small plates. The food was top quality. Small plates with fresh (protein heavy) ingredients made a nice lite lunch and a base for the wine tasting. The wine is interesting and quaffable - worth tasting and maybe a bottle or two for local consumption. We bought some of the pineapple wine and enjoyed it as a spritzer with lunch the next day. Highly recommended for delightful detour from Maui’s beaches!
Mahalo for making the drive up to the Tasting Room and for your wonderful review. Happy to hear you enjoyed all aspects of the experience. Hope to see you back again in the future!

A Must Do when visiting Maui
Hadn't been here in about 10 years. It has changed a little and was extremely enjoyable. The wines have gotten better in my opinion. Make a reservation as it is sit down to pick your wines for tasting and possibly food versus the walk up to the bar in the tasting room. I prefer what they changed it to. Everyone was pleasant and the wines were good, especially the raspberry desert wine. Took three bottles of it home with us. It was cloudy, and rainy when we were there and yes, cool. Take a jacket as up-country you never know and it can get cool. Just a beautiful place and experience with friendly staff.
Mahalo for spending the afternoon with us. I love that you noticed the progress over the past 10 years and enjoyed the seated service. The raspberry dessert wine is such a treat. Hope to see you back again soon!

We loved visiting this winery! The tour was nice and we enjoyed trying the wines from Hawaii. Pineapple wine is very different and a unique experience. I would recommend going and sitting on the porch with a glass of wine and admiring the views. You will remember this place forever!

We cut our vacation short due to global health concerns. Stopped by winery to grab a couple bottles for home before heading to airport. One of the employees at tasting bar was rude and clearly did not want our business.
I would recommend that the winery either close or not assign this employee to work with customers if tourist business is not needed or wanted at this time.

This winery had custom tastings for $12-$16 depending on what you picked. They have a jail on grounds for which they give tours at 10;30 and 1:30. They have lots of gifts to choose from. They are easy to find and friendly. They have a seasonal mimosa.

This place sounded quite pretentious from their website and since we were traveling with kids, we didn't plan to visit. But, spontaneously we decided to swing by and check it out. Since we didn't have a reservations we weren't surprised when they told us they were booked. We went inside to purchase a couple of bottles of wines and the bartender did allow us a taste before we purchased. I was actually pleasantly surprised that they were more kid friendly that they appeared online and the staff was quite friendly.

A couple was asking the bartender if their children could run around the yard while they sat inside and had a tasting so I suppose that's why they appear unfriendly online - to discourage unsupervised children.

Stopped in here with only a half hour to spare after visiting the Ocean Vodka distillery & was glad we did. Cute little tasting room with plenty of options for gifts, nice grounds & friendly staff. The Hula O Maui ended up being my favorite, with several others being quite tasty as well. They definitely know what they’re doing with the sparkling wines but could probably work on their reds a little more.

I recently visited MauiWine a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. Although its a little off the beaten path its a unique experience, with jaw dropping views of the island and ocean, and good wine. This is the perfect place for wine lovers or if you want to see more of rural Maui not the super touristy spots. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable about the winemaking process of their traditional reds and whites, but also their pineapple wine which was very interesting to try. I actually had a mix up with my reservation dates and instead of the staff getting frustrated or making us wait a long time for a table. They immediately went into action to accommodate us even though it was my mistake. I am so appreciative they turned around the whole experience for my family and I. I strongly encourage you make reservations because we went within the first hour of them opening on a Thursday and they were already busy. Overall 10 out of 10, I will definitely be back.

Here's the scoop on MauiWine and what to expect:

Before anything else, know that you need to make a reservation. The pamphlets and ads you see for this place don't mention that but we saw people being turned away because they didn't make a reservation. I would be furious because It's a long drive up country to get there and there's not much else to do in that part of the island.

If you know much about wine you'll already be wondering how good their wine can possibly be and let's face it, this is not a NAPA calibre winery. The most interesting thing to taste is their pineapple wine, just so you've had the experience. There's no actually winery to tour, no grapes being crushed. It's just a cafe with some light appetizers and their wines on the menu to try. It's a bit of a tourist trap to be honest.

With that said, it's a quaint, well-run place. The pineapple wine is interesting, especially the dry sparkling version. The food was excellent. We had some nice brie with nuts and guava jelly. So bottom line, if you're looking for a break from the beach in Maui and want to get away from the heat and crowds, this place is a great excuse to make an excursion to Maui "Up Country" as they call it. The drive and views are the real event but MauiWine is a great excuse to drive to a part of the island you might not otherwise visit. Oh and this goes without saying but don't bring kids.

Thank you for visiting Maui Wine. We're glad you got a break from the heat and crowds and spent the afternoon upcountry with us. We're happy to be part of a diverse wine industry with places like Napa, while being our authentic selves in Hawaii. Even though we are crushing grapes from our hillside vineyards and making wine on-site, we keep the guest experience to a tasting at this historic ranch. Stay tuned as we continue to grow. We hope you got to know more about this unique cottage where the Hawaiian royalty used to sip champagne!

Granted, my wife and I aren't big wine drinkers, but even my wife's brother and his wife were not impressed with the wine here. It used to be the Tedeschi Winery and as we remember it, the wine used to be better. Wine tastings aren't cheap and most of the wines are too sweet or just mostly flat. The grounds, however are amazing and it's nice just to stroll around separate from the winery.

My husband and I made many trips to this winery since 2009 and always felt so very welcome. It was like coming home. Unfortunately, I lost him last year (covid). As such, this trip was with friends and, after telling them about my previous experience here, I convinced them to stop on the way back from our road to Hana trek. Upon arrival we were met by a hostess whose only welcome was a rather sharp, "do you have a reservation?" No welcome, no have you been here before, no explanation that things have changed, no reception at all beyond the demand for a reservation. One friend felt so unwelcome she went back to the car. The other waited it out with me and tried a couple of wines. She purchased 1 bottle. Traditionally, I would have purchased more than a case but this time, I was so disappointed I made no purchase. I am confused, hurt and rather embarrassed that my friends were treated so poorly. I would love to understand how this winery went from a place brimming with Aloha spirit where each visitor was made to feel part of the ohana to a cold business where every visitor is just another customer.

Very much enjoyed our trip to MauiWine. Because COVID has changed everything, I look at the websites prior to going any where. MauiWine REQUIRES a free reservation. Super easy to do online. We were a little early and they were able to seat us 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time. Everyone was nice and helpful. We were a group of 4 adults, with only two of us doing the wine tasting. We ordered other drinks and appetizers and all was perfect. Casual atmosphere.

Aloha Carolee, Thank you for visiting us with your group! We are so happy to know that the online reservations made the scheduling part easy. But the best part of hearing about your experience is that all was perfect. Thank you again for joining us and we look forward to seeing you again!
