- Sorcham9County Dublin, Ireland141 contributionsAmazing views and peacefulLovely drive up 4000ft to see the farm also being a great paragliding viewing spot. Lovely walk around the flowers & plants with lots in bloom during our visit. Entry fee cash only $3pp for us. Cute gift shop and nice Lavender scones- cards accepted here.Aloha, Mahalo for taking the time to review our property. We're so happy to hear you had a lovely time. Cash is preferred at our entrance gate but card can be used as well, the attendant would send you to the gift shop to pay instead :) Mahalo.Written April 27, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 3, 2024

They have a small gift shop. They are open Thursday thru Sunday until 4 p.m. it was three dollars to go in, quite reasonable for Maui.Aloha Patty, thank you for the nice review. - traveltheworld461Fort McMurray, Canada3,057 contributionsVery peacefulWe drove the hour and a bit from our condo to the Lavender Farms for a change of pace and hope to see some wild chameleons. We didn’t find any chameleons but it was really peaceful in the gardens. It was 4000ft elevation and we enjoyed walking around. There is a really cute gift shop there. For the $3USD/adult entry, I’m glad we checked this place out. Definitely recommend brining a sweater and a raincoat.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 1, 2024
- Paul G1 contributionAdventure in the clouds! While the views were custom-made for many camera shots, the overall ambience was what impressed us the most. The decor, the live music and the cordiality of the servers were all top-notch. And the food was far above the norm, priced competitively and prepared quite well.Aloha! We don't typically have live music here at the lavender farm and do not have servers that serve food since we don't have a kitchen, just our little cafe in our gift shop which customers order and take out on their own. Perhaps your review was for Moku Roots or Ocean Vodka? We highly recommend both of these other attractions!Written July 13, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 22, 2024
- Mmc30 contributionsLavender in ParadiseSuch a beautiful lavender in the middle of Maui in the Upcountry. Entrance fee of $3pp is minimal and worth it for the self guided tours through their gardens. Don’t expect an over abundant spread of lavender unless you time it just right, but the lavender that is in bloom along with all their other trees, flowers, and views down to central Maui are just amazing! Be sure to step into the gift shop for all kinds of lavender goodies. One word of caution, if you have a mobility impaired member of your party they may find this place challenging. Part of what makes it gorgeous is the hilly location, but it is VERY steep and can be difficult to get in/out of your car door.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 7, 2024
- StThomas’ ChildLos Angeles, California249 contributionsA Lavender Farm, Who Knew!We come to Maui regularly but had not spent much time In the upcountry. Researching farms that we could visit, this one just grabbed my attention. There are fields with lavender. It did not disappoint. It offered beautiful scenic views, pathways to walk, beautiful flowers and plants, and places to sit and just take it all in. There is a small bit of climbing but it is worth it. The gift shop is a treat of unique lavender items from bath soaps to clothing. Try the lavender lemonade, it’s wonderful! Entrance is only $3.00 per person. Plenty of parking.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 4, 2024

I would rate this a zero. For a farm that specializes in lavender, a calming oil and scent, the staff is completely rude and unfriendly. We arrived at 3:40 along with two other groups And the nasty woman at the gate only let the two groups ahead of us in and told us to leave. We were about 30 seconds behind them because i got something out of my bag.

This is the type of place in Maui you go to once you've come maybe 5 times. It's not a must-do by any stretch. The best part of the views of Maui below and not the farm itself. I pre-ordered the picnic lunch as a surprise birthday gift to my wife and they just give you the food in a bag and send you off. If you actually want to have a 'picnic' you have to bring everything yourself, and since I don't live in Maui, I didn't bring anything. My 6 year old did enjoy the Scavenger Hunt... and you get some nice lavender cookies for free when you complete it. It just takes a while to get here and there are a million other things I rather have done in Maui during that 2-3 hour period (including driving from Kihei)

I wish we would have had more time. We had to be somewhere after coming off Haleakala so we were rushed. We knew we wouldn't have enough time to walk the grounds so we quickly went to the gift shop to buy scones for the next morning and lavender gifts. They only allowed a certain number of people in the shop at one time. I also got a lavender lemonade which was delicious.

The views and scents alone are worth the $2 per person entrance fee. It is a pleasant walk through the well manicured Lavender gardens. The first time we went, several years ago, the father ran the farm. For him, it was a passion more than a business. He sold products made in the upcountry from Lavender grown on the farm. Now, his son owns it and runs it more as a business. Many of the products are now made off island and labeled Ali Kula. The prices he charges are about double as like products elsewhere. For this reason, the store was a disappointment. The tea room is gone - but one can by a cup of lavender tea or coffee and a scone and enjoy them on the porch that was once the tea room with a beautiful view. Well worth the visit!

We drove to the farm, had the admission fee waived by mentioning the ad in UPCOUNTRY brochure. They advertised that there were inclines and not super easy for walking; it was much more of a challenge than we anticipated and one of our members stayed in the car. (In fairness, each of us has our limitations, and the write ups clearing state this). Lavendar was not in bloom. But there were lots of protea, birds of paradise and some lovely succulents. It was on the way to our next stop, so it was ok. I wouldn't make a special trip out of lavendar season. And, the bathrooms really were horrible. I'm not usually very picky, but I chose to wait.
The gift shop is lovely, but the staff is not particularly friendly. Overall, it was a fine experience because it was a beautiful day and we met some very nice people.

Aloha,
Mahalo for taking the time to review our farm.
Our farm rests on the slope of Haleakala at an elevation of 4000 ft and as such our terrain is inclined. we do offer guided cart tours with reservations as well, as we do understand that it is difficult to walk at times.
Lavender bloom season is summer, but yes right now (January) we have some beautiful protea's as well. We hope you were able to get some good photos!
We are sorry to hear that our restrooms were not up to par when you visited. They are cleaned every day at 8am, 11am, 1pm, and 3pm.... so we do apologize that if in-between those times it happened to become less than favorable. We also appreciate the feedback regarding our staff, as we want all our guests to be treated kindly.
We will address all of this with our staff, to ensure that all our customers receive the best experience.
Mahalo!

We visited the lavender farm and found it to be a mixed experience at best. The good: wonderful views and great gift shop, and the grounds are very pleasant to walk around. The bad: the infrastructure for this place is just atrocious, including awful parking that is heavily sloped, poorly designed, insufficient, and barely paved. This is definitely NOT a place for those with mobility issues such as use of a scooter. Okay to visit once but would certainly not go back.

Don’t expect to see fields of lavender. Do expect to be blown away by fantastic sculptures and amazing views and giant protea! Nice walking path and good gift shop. Price of admission is free with a food donation that goes to the Maui Food Bank..and you get a 10% gift card to use in the store on your total purchase. Nice! Otherwise, a reasonable 2-3 dollars per person. Truly a wonderful way to spend an hour Upcountry!

Aloha, Thank you for your recent visit.
We are still in recovery mode from our Covid-19 related shutdown where from March - December of 2020 we were closed due to the strict shutdown in Hawaii due to the pandemic. During that time, no one was here to maintain the lavender fields, and unfortunately we lost our already-aging plants to weed and grass, completely choking them out. We have been undergoing a massive replanting project since Spring of 2021, propagating hundreds of new plants and getting them in the ground. As of this moment, we have completed about half of the original fields, as time and labor allows. In this post-covid economy, we have about 1/3 of our original staffing, so our new plots have been reduced in size slightly for easier maintenance.

I was expecting more Lavender for it being named so. It was a huge garden, they didn’t charge the entrance fee the day I went, if you like flowers / gardening I’m sure you’ll love this area. Does have a great view but I was disappointed overall.

We’ve tried going here twice in the past 2 years and both times turned around due to rude gate attendants. Told to “read the sign” for discount rates (which the sign doesn’t have on it, and why I asked). Also if we have someone visiting who is handicapped in the car and need to park near facilities, then a little understanding would be nice to help that happen. Finally, I have been here over a decade ago before the gate and the items in the shop are pricey enough that the entrance fee isn’t justified or should be comp’d if buying anything from the shop. Better views from higher up where the hang gliders take off for free

Aloha, Thank you for taking the time to let us know. We apologize for the rudeness that you encountered, and have talked to the staff that work the entrance gate to always explain with aloha for those who may have missed the posted information.
In August, 2012 we decided to begin charging a nominal admission fee for several reasons. First, we are dedicated to improving and beautifying our gardens to ensure the best experience for our customers. Our gate revenue enables us to sustain a modest garden crew charged with tending to our many plants and keeping trails safe for our guests.
We have also started the Ali’i Chang Scholarship to encourage Agricultural Education among our local youth (for more information and to donate, please contact us. A percentage of our admissions goes to this fund for the perpetuation of agriculture in the State of Hawai’i.

We have visited this attraction on several trips to Maui. We were quite amazed to see how this farm has changed over the years. I didn't see the "plots" of the different Lavendar as abundant as in years before. Great views, but just not the WOW factor we had when we visited before. The people in the store were less friendly as well. I was digging in my bag for money to pay for my order and I asked how much it was because I couldn't hear her and she told me it was displayed on the screen. I believe that could have been handled a little better.

Is this something you have you have to purchase tickets for or is it a more self guided tour? Do we need to plan ahead or can we just swing by?
Written May 10, 2018
You can just swing by. Once you get there, you can pay for a guided tour. In my opinion, it was nicer to walk around at our own pace. There is a small entrance price to park.

Visiting in May ..is it a good time to visit lavender farms or is it a waste of time?
Written April 19, 2018
It is a beautiful place to visit. Peaceful, smells great and scones are worth the trip

Here at AKL Maui we are lucky to have certain varieties of lavender in bloom year-round. The peak of the season where the big lavender fields bloom is limited to mid-summer, June-August , and the beginning part of September. At this time, we do have a lot of French and Spanish Lavender that are blooming :)
There are also many varieties of other plants and flowers to be found as well.

Allow at least an hour but I agree with the other responder--this isn't worth a special trip. Makawao is a cute town to visit and the surfing goat dairy is anothe fun diversion if you head up country.
