This is our 4th time (or maybe 5th) renting from Maui Boating. The process of reserving, confirming and picking up the boat was a breeze. Chris was fantastic to work with and very courteous and professional as we met him at the launch ramp (he was early!)

The boat ran great and gave us our ability to run our own personal whale watching tour for hours. We started out in Maalea Harbor but then headed more towards west Maui as well.

We were able to drive around and see more whales than we could have hoped for. We were not crowded with 40 other people on the boat or 5 other boats crowding us. We just drove to see whales and stopped, turned off the motors and watched when they were nearby. One time we stopped we were even able to just listen to them sing underwater.

Truly a remarkable experience.

From start to finish this is hands down the best way to be on the water around Maui!! Their mandatory safety orientation not only familiarized us with our boat but provided clear boundaries, safety guidelines, and insight on enjoying Molokini.
Chris met us on time, briefed us, got us under way and when we notified him we were inbound was at the dock waiting.
This is truly a professional, safety oriented operation that excels in customer service and friendliness.
We loved the opportunity that Aloha Outdoors provided us to enjoy their island at our own pace, our own way in a safe responsible manner at a really affordable price!!!! (Really!!! Compare per person price of a guided excursion to price of Aloha rental)

We rented a boat from Aloha Outdoors. We got the reservation confirmation from the company with a safety and instruction video to watch.

Unfortunately on the day of our rental, there was very bad weather. The person launching the boat made sure to check conditions and was diligent about getting in touch with us. We couldn't go, not the company's fault, but they refunded our money.

We'll rent from them next time!

want to start with mentioning that Chris who helped us was a great guy. He tried his best but it's not his fault that the company doesn't operate efficiently.

I DO NOT recommend renting from this place.

1. They asked us to arrive 15 mins before our check in time or else they will charge us $50, we did, THEY arrived 30 mins late.

2. They loaded us on the boat and the boat wouldn't steer, the steering wheel needed oil topped off and they didn't have it on site so they had to drive all the way to their shop to get oil. At this point we are 1 hour past our scheduled departure.

3. We departed at 9:20AM and if you know Maui, you'd need to be at Molokini as early as possible most days or the winds will be unbearable.

4. That's what happened with us, we arrived at Molokini at 9:45 and by the time we tied the boat to the designated buoy, the wind picked up and the waves became more intense and it became a dangerous situation for our kids. We noticed that all vessels started to leave and we were there all alone. We turned around and fought the big waves all the way back to meet them at the dock at around 11 even though we had the boat from 8 to 2.

I understand that they can't control the weather, but we could've at least got a little value for our money if they were on time, we would've snorkeled in Molokini for at least an hour before we had to go back due to the weather and we wouldn't have felt bad about it since really that was all we wanted to do.

Chris took $100 off the $800 bill and offered services that we really didn't use, but we paid over $700 including fees to boat back and forth from and to Molokini for 2 hours. Not worth it at all.

Thats exactly what happened. This was back in June and I just had a chance to leave a review to warn others of this shady business. Sorry to hear about Chris. I guess you lost the only ethical person at your company. The other reviewers calling you a liar were accurate.

AVOID this business at all costs!

We’re sorry about your experience. Your experience isn’t typical and certainly not associated with any policy. There had been staffing challenges re-emerging from the devastation of the pandemic and we have been able to work our way out of those. We lost family members and employees to Covid-19 which caused a ripple effect thru the company. Chris was one of our beloved co-workers and he is dearly missed. We do appreciate your review, albeit harsh. Thank you for using our services and for those that would read this review we hope they can trust that we have been in business for over 35 years and are the only boat rental operations on Maui because of our devotion to our community’s well being.

Problems happen. How people deal with them is what makes or breaks a service related business. In this case, it was poorly handled. Our boat experienced an oil sensor issue(according to Aloha contact) which puts the engine in safe mode and reduces power significantly. When we returned we were told that a certain level of compensation would be given. Post excursion, we were emailed that they reviewed GPS and based on miles traveled we were "clearly able to enjoy the ocean" and that they had decided to provide a significantly reduced amount. We won't be renting from them again.

Problems happen. But when you use the boat all day without notifying us of a problem or giving us a chance to repair or replace the vessel…then return the vessel and unable to recreate the problem…then demand a full refund…that is when we tend to question the validity of a customers claim. We have been in business for 35 years. We have an excellent track record for safety and operations. We are the only boat rental option on Maui. Rent with confidence and don’t believe everything that people write in this new review shake down economy.

What a way to see Molokini and whales! Nice boat, ran smoothly, comfortable size for 6 people or so, has a large canopy for shade. With 2.5 hr rental we did a leisurely snorkel at Molokini (had the place to ourselves) and then motored around to chase dozens of whales. Spectacular. Chris was responsive and easy to work with.

If you are comfortable handling a boat, private boat rental from this company is the #1 thing I would recommend for a trip to Maui. Hands down the best experience we’ve had here. The guy was great and we were able to get away from the crowds for a bit and snorkel, see whales (we saw a number of these - they were all over between the launch point and the crater! Which did mean we had to idle for quite awhile until they passed but 100% worth the time), etc. Highly recommend!

Fantastic day on the water. Spent our 5 hour cruise snorkeling around Molokini and whale watching. We had some big wind waves and a swell from the south and the boat handled incredibly, much better than our Boston Whaler back home. Boat had great layout, shows it’s age but perfect for our family of 6. Was recommended by and friend and will do the same if looking to rent a boat for the day. Chris was very professional and courteous.

Rented for 2.5 hr cruise around the ocean between Maui and Molokini Crater. The boat was on time. The first guy that dropped off the boat was a little abrupt but mostly friendly. The dude who took the boat back was friendly. Neither said anything about fuel charges being additional. After we turned in the boat, the next day, we were told we owed for $120.00 for 20 gallons of premium fuel!

The dude said the coast guard had a law that said they have to use premium. Horse Hockey! I looked it up and found no such law. No way we used 20 gallons of gas! We used maybe 5-7 gallons, which would be a stretch.

The dude started screaming he was going to call a lawyer because when they tried to run the additional charges without our permission mind you, the card wouldn't work. So unprofessional. Turned out they had the card number wrong. Said the fuel charges were all over the website and the contract. I did find that information to be on the website but only under FAQs if you look far enough.

Would not recommend it. Surely there is someone more ethical and professional that you can rent from on Maui.

Aloha Peggy..that’s not exactly how the interaction went down. Coast Guard has nothing to do with our fuel charges. You were charged based on your use. You traveled over 45 miles with 2 motors at full throttle for many hours. We do not make any money on fuel charges, we simply pass the charge on to the customer. When you canceled your credit card to avoid this billing, that prompted a collection effort for the agreement that you signed. Nothing rude, over-priced, or shady from our side here. Please be honest and abide by your agreements. There is no reason to be mean!

We rented one of their boats hoping to snorkel inside the Molokini crater and see whales. The day started out fine, and we reached the crater and found and tied up to one of the proper buoys. When 2 of us were in the water and the other 2 in the boat, we noticed water coming up over the floorboard. At the same time we and people in other boats noticed that our boat was listing to starboard. For a moment I was afraid it was going to capsize. It listed about 30 degrees. Clearly something was wrong with the bilge pump/ battery combination. I managed to start the starboard engine and then I started the bilge pump. We unmoored the boat and started for the dock. The boat rental people sent another boat out; they asked us if we wanted to stay out! I didn't trust that boat, and we went on in to the dock. I still haven't straightened out my bill with them.
