I have been getting massages from Johanna for over 10 years and she is hands-down the best massage therapist that I have seen. She is also a very lovely person. I wish I could find someone as skilled as her in my home town. I have tried, but no-one comes close. I live in San Diego and visit Maui about once or twice a year and one of the things I always make sure to do when I visit is book a massage with Johanna for me, my son, my boyfriend, my friends - whoever is traveling with me. Her massages are very relaxing but also deep tissue-enough to work out the knots. She comes to your hotel or condo so it's super convenient. Her ocean-front yoga classes are fun too.

I've been doing yoga regularly in Vancouver for about 3 years. This class in Kihei is great and right on the beach at 8:00 a.m.. Free mats are available. Choose your spot there on the grass (with the gorgeous palm trees overhead). All levels welcomed. Instructor provided guidance and also reminded participants to be listening to their own bodies--and adjust accordingly. There were about 20 people there the morning I went. Will go again when I'm on Maui next.

Johanna is great - welcoming, caring, calming and an awesome instructor. The location is spectacular. Love doing my balancing poses and looking for turtles or whales! Johanna suggests modifications so class is suitable for all levels. Certaintly a highlight of my trips to Maui.

I attended Joanna’s yoga classes when we were in Maui in January and it was a highlight of our trip. Her instructions were clear and easy to follow. Each morning was a new group of happy holiday makers and I really enjoyed talking to Them and hearing where they were from ( which was mainly freezing parts of the US and Canada!). The site on the lawn overlooking the beach is so beautiful. My partner also had massages in our house which he said were great. Highly recommend Joanna’s classes and massages. For those without a mat she has them for hire for $2 although mats are easily available in nearby shops.

I've had a lot of massages over the years, and Johanna is one of my all-time favorite masseuses. She really tunes in to what you want and need.

I am fortunate enough to travel to Maui once or twice a year, and one thing that I always look forward to is continuing my yoga practice in Kihei, with Johanna! Johanna is a gifted and gentle teacher and her classes are appropriate for all levels. You can tell that she teaches out of a love for yoga and teaching and sharing. Johanna is great with offering modifications and she always brings in a few challenges. The first time I ever did a headstand was actually in her class, in the soft grass, looking out at the Pacific Ocean, upside-down!
Johanna teaches just behind the Kamaole Nalu in South Kihei. We stay at the Kihei Kai Nani, so it is literally across the street. The "studio" is a soft lawn, perched above some lava rocks, overlooking the ocean. Sometimes, it's hard not to get distracted by an occasional dolphin or whale or other sea creature in the distance, but it's a wonderful distraction! I also love the sounds of the ocean while I'm practicing -- such a treat when you're used to practicing indoors. Breathing in some clean ocean air is a treat, too!
Whether you're new to yoga or just want to continue your practice while you're on vacation, I highly recommend taking some time for yoga with Johanna while you're in Kihei (or staying somewhere nearby). It's a wonderful way to start your day and it's an incredible bargain ($10/class) for Maui or anywhere, really. I recommend bringing your own yoga mat and towel. I sometimes place a towel under my mat because the grass can be a little wet. I just bring a foldable travel yoga mat and it's adequate because the grass is so soft (which will help you improve your balance!). Aloha and namaste!

I had two massages at Maui Massage, this location. Kurt is fantastic. I have had a lot of massage in my 70 years and I have had many, many great therapists. Kurt is right up there sharing top spot w/a couple of others! Why? Because his techniques were excellent and a little different than rghew "run of the mill" -- in fact, he did some kind of stretch on my foot and solved, what apparently may have been a chiropractic problem, that I'd had for weeks! Poof, problem solved, discomfort with walking, gone! I now call him "Kurt Magic Hands" when I tell friends! Also, the location was clean and the front desk staff were very friendly and profesiional. I will go again!

Aloha, Looks like you've reviewed the wrong Maui Massage as there is no Kurt at Maui Massage and Yoga. Perhaps you can redirect your review so Kurt gets your nice review. Mahalo, Johanna

I found Johanna over 5 years ago while attending her oceanfront Yoga class. I have been back to Maui twice a year since then and although I no longer practice Yoga, I seek her out each time for an amazing massage. On a couple of occasions she was able to come to where I stay, and several other times I visited her in Makawao (making it a fun day by adding a trip and lunch in nearby Paia). Her knowledge of the human body and expertise will be evident as soon as she starts the massage. For me, one of her massages is the perfect way to get my mind and body in an Aloha state of being! Her senses of Aloha and serenity seems contagious! I have included her in every trip to Maui and will continue to do so when returning..a real threat...I only wish she could fit in my suitcase to come back to CA with me!

Johanna Waters provided massage service on Sunday afternoon to two weary travellers who had been pounded by the surf and tired by the go-go-go of trying to see and do a lot of things on vacation. She relaxed and slowed us each down to enjoy the rest of the day with strength and gentleness, pressure and stretching, all in expert tempo and with a lovely minty lotion. It may have been the best massage we have ever experienced, and we have had lots of massage therapists, between each of us. She was great. Highly recommended. She comes to your hotel room, so you can just nap after the experience. Well worth every penny.

This was an amazing setting and Joanna was an excellent yoga instructor. This was my brother's first yoga experience and he loved it! Beautiful setting and very relaxing experience. I'm already looking forward to our next Maui vacation with yoga on the beach.
