Jordan is a great teacher. I learned a lot of the basics that are very important and, when I didn't catch a wave, it was because I wasn't following the basics. The biggest one being keeping your eyes up (look at the top of the palm trees) when jumping up to catch the wave. JB, the owner, always went out of his way to make sure someone was there (or himself) to get me a board for rent and gave me a great deal!

Joseph was fabulous! He had all three of our group surfing in no time! Instructions were clear, simple and tailored perfectly to each person's needs and ability. It was a thrill to get my wife and daughter both surfing on the same wave! Maui beach Boys were well organised, on time and from what we could see kept all groups to a manageable size. Very friendly owner and instructors. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful time taking surf lessons from Bruce with Maui Beach Boys at Kalama Park in Kihei. Bruce was very patient with us considering our age ranges from 51 to 9 yrs old. He stayed with the kids until they felt comfortable enough to manage on their own, riding the waves.
Considering all the new surfers taking lessons on the water, I would definitely recommend the Maui Beach Boys. JB the owner squeezed us in and Jill helped us get into our gear. This was an unforgettable experience and we will do this again. Well worth it.

Owner JB is rude, condescending and unprofessional.
But before I get to that, I will say that the instructors are amazing. Zach and Kai were phenomenal with my 10 year old and he was very happy with both instructors.
My poor review is directed squarely at the owner JB (John Browne). Talk about unprofessional, incredibly rude and uncompromising (in the face of my 10 year old who was crushed he would not get the same instructor as he was promised the day before). We had scheduled private lessons and had gotten Zach our first time out. My son was thrilled with him and when we came back that first day in we spoke to several people requesting Zach as an instructor again the next morning (and we were told that we would get Zach-in fact I saw it get written into the schedule). We show up the next morning on time and JB is in a rage, sweaty and yelling at all of his staff. When I ask him about our lesson, JB barks at us that we "can't have Zach" and that furthermore "there is nothing I can do about it".
Well, actually as the owner there is something you can do about it - and you could certainly have handled yourself in a more professional and courteous manner to a repeat customer (who will never be repeating again). Why couldn't we have swapped our instructor Kai with Zach who was there that morning, but mysteriously assigned to a different group? Don't you, as the owner/boss have the power to do so (I know you do because everyone I spoke to told me to ask you to make the switch). If this had been handled differently by JB, then everything would have been fine, but to hover over a client and bark in her face about a broken promise to her son is totally and utterly unacceptable.
I would actually recommend you spend $10 more across the street at Maui Wave Riders. They have an actual brick and mortar store (not two random trucks in a public parking lot) and are 100% professional, courteous and everything you would expect from real business owners. We ended up going to Maui Wave Riders for the next two days instead and had an excellent experience.
And no, JB - I do not want a refund and it's actually very easy to keep customers happy. Don't throw a temper tantrum at them when they're just trying to give you their money for some surf lessons. Mahalo.

We were first time surfers and had so much fun with Maui Beach Boys that we surfed with them three times. Andrew was a great instructor and got us both up riding waves almost immediately. The owner JB is great to talk to, he knows the island inside and out and guarantees that you get up surfing. He also rents out surfboards for a great deal, so you can continue the fun later in the day or later in your trip. I’d highly recommend them. It’s organized but pretty informal—just call JB a day or two in advance and he can set you up. Thanks, JB!

Hands down one of the best experiences we’ve had in Maui! JB the owner was awesome, it was my birthday and not only did he sing and play his guitar he brought along cupcakes to celebrate. Our surf instructor Jordan, was the best!!! He was fantastic made us all feel really comfortable and confident, We brought our 6 year old with us none of us had surfed before and by the end of the lesson we were all up on the boards surfing! It was truly an amazing experience with great instruction and a truly unique experience that made my birthday one I’ll never forget. We already booked another lesson before returning home. Thank you Maui beach boys for an unforgettable experience, we can’t wait to do it!!

My instructor Whitney was so amazing. She was a super nice person in general and a great teacher. It was my first time surfing ever and by the end of the lesson, I was standing up on my surf board, and feeling comfortable on my own. I would recommend to anyone, even if you’ve never surfed in your life.

Maui Beach Boys is a well-organized and professional operation. The company provided quality equipment and instruction. Our kids (ages 10 and 12) had a fantastic time surfing in a semi-private lesson with Whitney. She was energetic, she had a great attitude, and she was very nice and encouraging with our kids. I recommend hiring their photographer, Bruce, to take photos of the surfing experience. It is an additional $50, but it is well worth the expense. We received 131 high-quality digital photos at the end.

Super uncomfortable experience.
The instructors are mostly new, not experienced at all. Pushed many of us into waves right in front of some locals numerous times, and we almost got run over by other surfers because of it.
When one of the locals asked the instructor to be more careful, the instructor yelled at her, calling her a grandma and telling her to go somewhere else. Honestly, the local was actually just trying to not run over us when we were getting pushed into the wave by our instructor who was not paying attention.
It was really awkward and I felt bad just being there

This was an incredible experience. My daughters, 17 and 14, wanted to take surfing lessons but were anxious and scared. Well, right from the start, we knew we were in the right place. The Maui Beach Boys are incredibly professional yet keep it light to ensure you're having fun. We met our instructor, Jaidah, who couldn't have been nicer or more encouraging. She was upbeat and positive with the girls immediately. She went through the dry-land instruction and then had them out in the water to begin surfing. Within a few runs for each of the girls, they were up on their boards and having a blast! The girls had a blast and we will certainly be back. Nothing but top marks for Maui Beach Boys!
