We stopped during the hot afternoon sun not thinking we would see much but there were birds everywhere. This is a gem! Informative signs with great information. The boardwalk is so well maintained with 3 small shaded lookouts with benches. Absolutely loved it here and stayed over a hour. The herons were so entertaining. There are a few spots you can walk out on the beach and see plovers too. Not to me missed stop for wildlife viewing.

Always a good stop to stroll the boardwalk. We saw more birds this time and fish too. Beautiful area and bigger than you realize. You can see this pond from the plane as you arrive just north of Sugar Beach. Great coastal marshland, you should also visit the Kealia Pond Visitor's Center to the northeast.

We stopped here before the airport. Wish we came earlier so we could spend more time here. The boardwalk was very nice but the beach right down the boardwalk was incredible! It was empty and filled with gorgeous shells. This place is a gem!

We stopped into the Boardwalk prior to taking a sunset cruise with the Pacific Whale Foundation. It was late afternoon, but there was still quite a few endangered ae‘o (Hawaiian stilt) and ‘alae ke‘oke‘o (Hawaiian coot) to be found, as well as the Black-Crowned Night Heron. The education boards for these birds was informative. This area has very little shade, I would recommend sunscreen even for late afternoon (3:30 pm).

We finally managed to do the boardwalk on our 5th visit to Maui. It is a nice walk. Took maybe 20 minutes round-trip to the end and back. Saw some nice birds. Better views of the pond (towards the road) than the coast but it was a pleasant walk which I would do again.

We loved watching the black-crowned night herons, Hawaiian stilts, wandering tattlers, and Hawaiian coots in the marshy area along the boardwalk.

Just gotta stop here! What a beautiful place along the road (Hwy 311) to Kihei. Very nice boardwalk with informative plaques and even on the worst weather days, you will see birds and other types of wildlife. Beach access to Sugar beach allows you to see just how this marsh area is tied to the ocean. A great place to be enjoyed and protected.

This is a wonderful place for a walk along the shore. To watch the birds is very interesting and you have several opportunities to walk onto the sand and wet your toes in the ocean. Very interesting descriptive boards describing the flora and fauna.

Please see our review of the main wildlife refuge. Their boardwalk is wonderful, easy to access from both the beach and North Kihei Road (Hwy 31 aka 310).

Well worth a stroll to see some of the natural wildlife and vegetation. There is also a very long beach which is great for walking but not swimming.
