It had been 15 years since my wife and I visited Maui and went scuba diving while there. On that visit I dealt exclusively with Maui Dive shop because of the service I received the first time through the door. So when making arrangements for diving this trip, Maui Dive was first on my list to contact. We had not been diving in a while (thank you Covid-19) so we were in need of a required refresher to do the boat diving we wanted to. My daughter who had recently been certified to dive was also with us to do her first ocean dives. Maui dive worked it out for us to work around a pool refresher and at the same time get my daughter in the ocean for the first time by setting us up for a shallow ocean dive in the “Turtle Town” area. Unfortunately due to rough seas and bad visibility we could not do the shore dive. To make things right, and work through the needed refresher so we could make our other dives along with getting the first salty water on my daughter’s fins, the folks at Maui Dive assigned us private dive master (Nick P). Our next two dives were great! Nick respected the fact my wife and I had started diving 18 yrs ago and didn’t need our hands held while at the same time making sure my daughter was well taken care of. Thanks Maui Dive Shop, I hope it’s not 15 years before we see you again.

I’m an experienced open water diver who did the Intro to diving with a friend. There were four of us, plus the instructor, Nick, and another staff member observing Nick, who was training. Nick was super patient with the group and let me roam around while he went through skills with everyone else. We did a shore dive at Ulua beach and the experience was nicely organized. It might’ve been nice to have totes to something to put our stuff in, or at least a tarp to keep our stuff off the wet grass/mud. I rated a 4/5 because as Nick was setting up my gear, he forgot to put my weights in. I struggled with getting down, especially in such shallow water and the second staff member had to give me her weights because Nick was working on skills with the group. The other reason for 4/5 was because there was one diver who struggled a little with some of her control and she dove holding into a weight belt strap. The issue was when Nick found a rarely spotted Harlequin shrimp and was showing everyone, she started to slowly float up and looked nervous. I reached for her and held her arm so she’d feel more rooted. It was a major event or anything but there could’ve been a little more awareness. Overall, would’ve dove with them again on a certified dove but they didn’t have any more availability during my trip.

I had a great experience with this dive shop! Email communication before my trip was excellent - they answered all my questions and responded quickly. I booked a private dive master for the Molokini & Turtle Town dive and it was 100% worth it. Luke made the whole experience awesome! I told him that I wasn’t too confident diving since I haven’t had much recent experience, so he gave me a mini refresher lesson on the boat ride over. He also showed me pictures of all the fish that we might see on the dive, so I knew I was looking at once we were in the water. He knew where to find all the cool marine life and showed me some great stuff that I definitely would have missed otherwise. It was so much fun to dive with him! The rest of the crew was also super friendly and helpful. They had a fun dynamic and seemed very engaged with all the divers, and that made the trip really enjoyable. Gear was great and they were very professional about setting it up, helping everyone, safety, etc. The breakfast burritos were also perfect on the early morning ride over to Molokini. An all around fantastic experience and I hope I can dive with them again soon.

We booked this dive because it offered a dive inside the Molikini Crater and on the backside. We were charged $220 apiece for just tanks and weights supposedly because of COVID restrictions limited the number of divers onboard. I was not pleased at the steep price, but was looking forward to more space on the boat. Instead they had 16 divers broken into three groups, with SEVEN divers in my group plus the dive master. John Foerster was our dive master. He gave a fine briefing on the way out to the site and did an excellent job pointing out critters in the water for me to photograph. My only complaint is that this was not worth $220. I have been diving for over 40 years and have never overpaid this much for a dive. If the shop claims that this boat usually holds more than the 16 divers on my trip then I would not dive on that boat for any price. On another note, though certainly not the fault of Maui Dive Shop, this was my first time diving the crater in ten years. It appeared to be a mere shadow of the beauty it once was.

My son and I recently dove with Maui Dive Shop (2 tank Molokini crater/back wall) and had a fantastic time - professional, safe, John was a fantastic dive master and the crew helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend using Maui Dive Shop, and I will be back on board for another dive (hopefully soon!) as a return customer!
