We booked this tour because we wanted our two families to have a good introduction to snorkeling and didn't want to be stuck on a boat with a hundred people during COVID. We all had a great time. My son is on the ASD spectrum and has a hard time with new sensations and had some initial problems with his mask and this resulted in a big tantrum about not wanting to be in the ocean. If we had been on our own we probably would have quit, but the guide was so patient and persistent and encouraging and got him out to the reef and got him to put his face in the water and pointed out the specific fish and from then on my son was able to independently snorkel for two hours and it was a big success. The guide was firm but kind and his help was essential, as I was also learning the equipment myself, while trying to support my son. The introduction to the fish we would see, while initially feeling very time consuming, was great because the guide could then tell us what fish were under us and gave the three (8yo) kids the ability to shout to each other about what fish they were seeing and explore and share the experience with each other. Afterwards, my son asked for his own fish book so he could better learn about the fish he saw. For beginners this trip is exactly what I would recommend, especially if you have younger kids who need extra help or encouragement, and if you want the extra education about the wildlife you will see.

We felt like we had the ocean all to ourselves. Our guide Toby gave us a great education explanation on all the different fish and ocean life that we were going to be seeing. Toby was very personable, very funny, super honest and you could tell he really enjoyed getting to know us. Trusted him completely. We even saw things such as sea urchins and other shelled sea life that we weren’t expecting to see. He took us right to the perfect spots to hang out with gigantic turtles. Was so relaxed and so happy the whole entire trip. We felt safe and well taken care of. Toby was incredibly knowledgeable on every single fish we saw. He Pointed out sea creatures that maybe we would have never noticed. Not sure what other people expect from tours. I don’t think I would ever go on a big snorkel boat excursion again. We did that two years ago, despite it being a fabulous afternoon, I felt the variety of fish we saw and the feel of a super small group/private tour was well worth the money. Our wetsuits fit perfectly, we had all the gear we needed. The weather was questionable that morning but with Toby’s knowledge of the forecast and the opportunity for us to have a little bit of patience before getting in the water, Everything worked out great.

Our instructor met us on Makena Beach, were we got personal instruction on how to snorkel and what fish we might see. We walked into the ocean and snorkeled right over the reef there. He was extremely helpful identifying the fish and pointing out anything interesting to see. We were a party of four and two of us never snorkeled before. I personally have and would say this was one of my favorite trips.

What an amazing experience! We decided we wanted to do something outside our comfort zone on vacation and chose snorkeling. Maui Snorkel Tours jumped out at us because it wasn't on a big boat. As we had never done it, we were looking to go off the beach rather than off a boat. Our guide/instructor was Ed - the owner's wife! What a treat! He was an excellent teacher and really made us feel safe and helped to build our self-confidence in the water. He took the time to show us books he has taken the photos for and went through the types of fish we would see that day. As advertised, we received a text the day before telling us where to meet. Our location was Ulua Beach. What a breathtaking location! We saw so many fish, an eel, and even a turtle swimming right by us in the water! Amazing! Ed also brought us up several creatures to touch - a sponge, starfish, urchins, etc. It was so cool! Ed also took pictures of us throughout our journey. He edited them and sent them to us for no charge. They were amazing. I cannot recommend this company enough - especially for those that are new to snorkeling and need some extra attention like we did. First class operation.
