- E PSanta Cruz, California254 contributionsHow Can You Not Love This PlaceAfter that wicked drive to Hana, how can you not love this place. It is like stepping back in time. It feels so far removed from the tourism of Maui. And they have a little bit of everything, including snacks and food after that long drive. We always stop just to take a breath and feel like we are stepping back to an older, simper time.Visited August 2022Written August 12, 2022
- Hawkfan2015Brush Prairie, Washington47 contributionsWas so surprised by this storeWhat a sweet lady we visited within here and the store had such an eclectic offering. I am sure being in this more remote area they need to have a bit of everything in case of a road issue. So glad we made time to stop in. Great store for Hana.Visited February 2020Written March 12, 2020
- Mark MEl Dorado Hills, California815 contributionsWell worth a stop! Before you visit, I suggest you look up "Hasegawa General Store" on YouTube to get into the right mindset for a visit. It's an old song (I first heard it in the 60's!), and you'll get a good idea of why the store is worth a visit. It's a different world from most of what you'll see in Hawaii. Grab a refreshing drink, maybe a snack, and soak in the atmosphere. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up!Visited May 2021Written June 7, 2021
- Nu YNew York City, New York13 contributionsRun down and costlyOnly go there if you are desperate. Don’t understand why the store is a must-see. It is run-down, old, badly kept, dirty, filthy and super expensive. I understand groceries are expensive in Hawaii but this place takes the cake. There are no price markers and they just charge you whatever they want. Parking is ridiculous. It looks like a store in a village in a third world country, not a tourist attraction in Hawaii, USAVisited February 2020Traveled with familyWritten February 17, 2020

- Marion WSan Diego, California22 contributionsCrazy, old-world conglomoration of stuffI particularly like the t-shirts, but you can get everything there. It is old school, and that is the point. Brownie mix? Got it? Diet coke? Got it. Local raw honey in pretty jars to take back to co-workers? Got it. Sure there is dust. Sure there is corny stuff. And the recommendations about how to get back to the other side vary from shop clerk to shop clerk, but you won't find another place like it.Visited December 2015Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2016

It's literally an old school general store with food, clothing, hardware, housewares and beauty supplies to coloring books, key chains and snacks and drinks for Hana hikers. - charlestoncatCharleston, South Carolina80 contributionsFabulous!I love this store - it is what it is. A store that serves a small and wonderful community with everything you could possibly need. Car battery - check. Grass fed beef - check. Chardonnay - check. Please shop here when in Hana - great folks who are incredibly helpful and have done everything possible to make this a store that not only serves their community, but visitors too. Individual packed frozen shrimp were delicious, one stick of butter available for purchase, and small bottles of condiments. Thanks for thinking of us haoles!Visited February 2015Traveled as a coupleWritten March 7, 2015

This place is a dump. I would love to support a local, quirky and historic general store, but it’s just a whole bunch of junk that’s poorly organized and shockingly priced. Stop here only if you are desperate for something.
It’s FILTHY. Mega disappointing.

Not as colorful or nostalgic as the song would lead you to believer. Hot inside, poorly lit, in a rundown building. Odd assortment of "stuff" but probably have anything you may have forgotten on the road to Hana.

I was there 25 years ago but did not think it was in same place. Looked the same though. Song written about it in WWII. Lady behind counter said there had been a fire in late 90’s at old location so they took pieces they could salvage and built new store. Worth stopping so you can say you did.
