We arrived around 2 pm and they were out of their vegetarian panini. Very limited vegetarian options but they were kind enough to remove chicken from another panini to make it veg for me. The paninis were awesome, we took ours back to our B&B for dinner. Friendly atmosphere, easy to spot on the highway. Recommend going earlier in the day for the best options. Overpriced as all of Hawaii is, due to the transport costs. Worth it!

Before getting to Hana, after driving all those miles, stop at a hidden gem, the Hana Fresh Stand. I didn't want to call it a fruit stand because it is so much more. Right after the Health Center is a parking lot and a large tent set up on RIGHT side of road. Not only does it have fresh, local fruit, vegetables and Macadamia nuts, it offers hot coffee, and GREAT lunch salads. Fresh cooked chicken and fish on top of fresh greens and very nice unique salad dressings. STOP there for lunch, not the greasy-spoon places in Hana. The staff is much more friendly too. PLUS, the proceeds benefit the health center!

Hana Fresh is not your typical tourist stop, but it is a wonderful place with extremely nice people.
Hana Fresh is part of the Hana Health Clinic, serving the people in this isolated area. They raise their own organic fruits and vegetables and cell them at their stand, and throughout the islands.
Every Tuesday they have a half price sale on produce for local residents. In otherwords, getting good affordable food to local residents is their primary mission. Those of us who visit are welcome to shop there, and made welcome, but serving our needs for an overnight visit or a quick lunch is not their main concern.
So, some grouch couldn't buy half a bag of tomatoes. too bad.
You should visit on a Tuesday for their farm tour, or Thursday afternoon for high tea and the farm tour. We went on a Tuesday, and Sam and Sharon were extremely gracious. They gave us a wonderful continental breakfast after a walk around the farm.
This is a very special place, and we are glad we went.

Coming into Hana hungry after hours on the beautiful drive, the Mrs. was attracted to the green “Hana Fresh” sign and wanted to stop there for lunch rather than go to my food truck favorite passed town. She wanted something health and fresh.

The fresh produce looked great. We had high expectations. The Mrs. ordered a vegetarian sandwich. I ordered the poke and brown rice.

As it turned out, the sandwich was pre-made, who knows when, and was grilled as we watched. I made the mistake of not checking out the poke before I ordered and before I paid.

We sat at the outside canopy to enjoy or lunch. The Mrs. took one bit of her sandwich before opening it up and declaring that it was old, certainly not fresh and cold in the center. She ate a few more bites before wrapping it back up.

As soon as I opened the poke and could smell the fish, I knew I blew it. I ate a few bites to confirm. It was disgustingly slimy and old smelling. The rice was cold.

We tossed both the sandwich and the poke into the trash having just wasted $25. We laughed about how the great marketing (the roadway green sign with the word “fresh”) got us to stop and expect healthy, fresh food.

Live and learn. Check out the food before ordering.

We popped in for coffee, banana bread and to buy lunch on our way home from an overnight stay in Hana. I would have eaten every meal from this farm stand if possible - the food was so local and so fresh, and nicely priced. I would stay in Hana longer, just to buy more stuff from this place.

By the way, the banana bread ($4) was delicious and second only to Julia's in West Maui. We had the Thai beef salad ($8) for lunch and the salad veg and dressing was super tasty.

I had lunch here on 3 different occassions while in Hana, and was very pleased each time. The spot doesn't look overly impressive with a tent set up in front of the Hana Health Center (directly off Hana highway), but don't let that fool you. This is a great place to come for a freshly prepared organic meal, snack or smoothie. They also have orgranic veggies- try a bag of the heirloom tomatoes as a snack for the beach or ride back. Also try the lemongrass iced tea as well- delicious!

A sensational cup of Coffee and great produce!!! Every morning this is where I go to get my coffee and Banana nut bread when my wife and I are in Hana. They grow the produce on the same grounds as where they sell it.

Just returned from a couple of days in Hana. We ate here three times and it was not enough! There were five of us, and I think between all of us we managed to try almost all of their dishes. The menu changes daily, and all proceeds benefit Hana Health Center.

A simple peanut butter and fresh banana on cranberry baguette along with my cappuccino was sublime in the Hana setting. Thick cut cinnamon bread spread with Nutella and slices of fresh fruit. The salmon, outstanding. We bought some whole papaya ($1 or $2, depending on size), and they happily cut them in half for us and scooped the seeds.

There is plenty of covered seating and we only encountered other happy eaters. If you're looking for this place as you enter Hana, you'll pass many other stands. Be patient, it's worth waiting for this one.

What a fantastic lunch stop! Wonderful poke and smoothies! Fish plate is good too. Healthy and fresh! Hours are haphazard and not consistent. But if you catch it open, it is worthy.

Ok, that title might be an overstatement, but it's certainly the freshest food in Hana. On a recent stay, we ate at the Ranch, which wasn't bad, but decided to continue looking. We asked some locals and they suggested Hana Fresh Farmers Market for breakfast or lunch. We went for breakfast.

We were at first surprised to find it in a tent in front of the Hana Clinic. Undeterred, we went inside and were surprised with the wide variety of foods. They had hot breakfast items as well as cold ones, like yogurt parfaits.

The quality of the food is exceptional and very fresh. They also have coffee-based drinks and soft drinks. Prices are reasonable.

But what about the food? Exceptional. I had both breakfast and lunch on two different occasions. The potatoes for breakfast are some of the best I've had - their flavor is wonderful. Eggs are made to order and very good from very fresh eggs. The meat products are also top notch. For lunch I had a Orzo Chicken Salad. It was fantastic and the quality you'd find in a top restaurant.

If you're looking for a great breakfast or lunch in Hana (and there aren't many places to eat), try Hana Fresh. You won't be disappointed.
