I save Trip Advisor for reviews that are extremely bad or incredibly good. These guys take the cake. I can't say enough good things about them. I had a broken right hand and could not drive, yet my nephew was visiting and I wanted to show him the REAL Maui. I had horrible visions of having to ride in one of those giant tour buses with a hundred other people, and you don't really get to DO anything. We went with this company and Kaliya was our driver and superb host. It was very personalized and it was only me, my nephew and my son. Kaliya took the boys on a hike to some waterfalls on our halfway to Hana tour and showed my nephew how to cliff jump at certain places where only the locals know how deep the water is and so on. Kaliya was also extremely knowledgeable about history, places, plants, animals and the local people. I learned a LOT from him and I had lived on Maui for two years. He was intuitively tuned in to our wants and needs. It was truly a magical time and I will definitely use them again. 10 star company, who went above and beyond. Very, very grateful to them!! And prices are MORE than fair!!

Fabulous tour.Erin was great. We saw so much more on this tour than we would have on a larger tour. One of the highlights was seeing the turtles.Erin went out of her way to make our day a memorable one & I would like to thank her for that.I have no hesitation in recommending this company.

We booked a trip to Hana with Maui Paradise Tours through Cynthia at the Activities Desk at Hyatt Hotel Ka'anapali, Maui.
Travelling with 3 kids from 9-15years she quickly realised that a customized trip through Maui Paradise Tours was best for us. Kalyia, our terrific guide, tailored a tour for us that met the needs of all our family from the insights he shared about local history and culture to places he took us and characters he introduced us to (including Sita the sacred chicken!). The kids loved it all as we did too.
Kalyia even went to extreme personal lengths to return my shoe I accidentally left in his van which was very much appreciated as we had left Maui by then.
Thank you Kalyia for your care, energy and knowledge resulting in such a memorable family experience.

My husband and I did 2 tours of Maui with Erin Detamore. Not only was Erin extremely knowledgeable about all our stops along the way, but she was really personable. I especially enjoyed all her stories about old Hawaiian legends. My husband and I and the other 4 people in our group thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days on Maui. I have no hesitation in recommending Maui Paradise Tours, but especially Erin Detamore as your guide. She was excellent!

We are a family of 6 and did the halfway to Hana tour as well as the west side of Maui. The two days we spent with our guide Erin were very fun and informative. She took us to a large variety of unique spots including waterfalls, beaches, and forests. She was very friendly and entertaining, and by the end of the tour she really felt like part of the group. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a more informal and laid back tour of what Maui has to offer.

When our cruise ship arrived in Maui I stumbled upon the guy selling this tour company in a mall. He was very personable and certainly a great sales person. He showed us large colorful photos of the six or seven places we would see on our reasonably priced tour. With our group of six he told us we would have our own private van and tour guide. The flyer stated we would have a healthy organic snack and beverage included although the salesman said the van would stop at the Mano Market and we would purchase our own snack. He also said he would have a table and chairs for us to sit on at the scenic lunch stop. We went for it at $65 per person for the Half-way to Hana Tour.

When we met up with our tour guide the next morning she was very friendly and personable and on time. The van was new, seat belted and she was a very good driver. The rub was we thought we would be stopping every ten or 15 minutes for some sort of tour site. We stopped briefly at an overlook of the beach where the sea turtles come in and the guide said we would return to that spot later at the end of the tour to see the turtles. Soon we stopped at the Mano Market to pick up our food and drinks. There was no ice chest or any other means to keep our food and drink cool. I was concerned about possible food poisoning with the food in a hot storage area with out a means to cool it.

Then we continued on up the road to Hana. It is an endless serious of very sharp turns that go on forever. We made no stops for at least 45 minutes and by that time two out of the six in our group had motion sickness and did not want to go on. Consequently we went no further than that one stop. This wasn't the fault of the tour company but had we known we would be driving around such a windy road without a stop every 15 minutes or so we probably would not have signed up for it.

We opted to eat lunch at this stop but there were no tables and chairs. There were a couple of park benches but only one was in the shade and it was occupied. We ended up sitting on wet grass in the shade eating our now warm drinks and sandwiches. Not a comfortable situation for senior citizens. When we finished eating we headed back to the sea turtle area and took a long break there and saw the sea turtles. It it hadn't been for that the tour would have been a complete bust.

Although all of us liked the young friendly girl who was our guide, she was not able to offer up the kind of informative, educational information about the things along our route that other tour guides offer up in a more professionally operated tour. She was just a very nice friendly young girl who was a good driver.

The bottom line is we payed $65 each for a drive up a windy road to eat warm sandwiches, drink warm sodas, and set on wet grass, see several sea turtles, and spend some time in a bar drinking a beer to use up the extra time that we had because we couldn't take the drive half-way up to Hana. With a guide with more information on local history and lore it might have been okay but that was not the case.

My recommendation is pay a bit more and get a "real" tour.

I agree with the reviewer who calls this the 'non-tour' tour company. We didn't feel like we were part of a tour group, we felt like we were being taken care of, lovingly shown island views and attractions by a friend, not a guide, who truly loves the place. Our tour was just my wife and me and one other couple who we did not know - we all became friends quickly.

We took the "halfway to hana" tour. It was a great introduction to that beautiful, fascinating part of Maui. Had time to shop, stopped for fresh smoothies, met the local "godmother chicken," saw beautiful waterfalls up close and from a distance -- honestly couldn't have designed a better, more apt tour myself. You'd be making mistake by letting someone else show you around.

My family of 6 (kids ages 20, 17, 14 and 9) took the Road to Hana tour with Jeb our tour guide and had a memorable day. The key to the Road to Hana is to remember that its the journey and not the destination that is the key to the expedition. In other words, there's not much to see when you get to Hana but there are great sights along the way/ Our tour guide Jeb was a great guy, a little eccentric but who wouldn't want that on a drive that has over 600 hairpin turns and over 50 single lane bridges. One minute Jeb was telling us about old Hawaiian folktales and the next minute he was jumping under a water fall to swim with my kids. Highlights of the trip was the black sand beach, the lava tube and blow holes at Wai'anapanapa State Park but the absolute best was the secret cave swimming hole where we dove in and learned the legend of the Hawaiian princess, Popoalaea. We also loved the stop at Aunty Sandy's Banana Bread stand which was outstanding and also very accommodating to my son who has a severe tree nut/peanut allergy. Unfortunately there is just not enough time to stop and see everything along the way but we were more than satisfied. Jeb finished the trip off with a stop at Ho'okipa Beach Park, where at sunset, the Sea Turtles come up on the shore for all to see. It's a long, exhausting day but a definite must for everyone visiting Maui. The only downside of our tour was that our touring van was actually a Honda Odyssey mini-van that was a taxi that sounded like it was barely starting every time we got back in from a sight to keep the tour going (the engine light was on the entire ride). However, it was kinda funny to be on the Road to Hana in a taxi and it did add to the adventure to never be sure whether the van was going to start. Fortunately it did. Big props to Jeb though who was a good sport throughout the trip.

When friends of ours heard we were going to Maui, they recommended we use Maui Paradise Tours for a guided tour of the Road to Hana. Erin texted us the day before to introduce herself and tell us when she would pick us up. (Right at our hotel in Kihei.) We could tell the minute she picked us up that we were going to have a good time. In the 20 minutes or so it took from Kihei to Pa'ia she filled us in on Maui history. In Pa'ia we stopped at Mana Foods to pick out our lunch. She was really excited for us to check out this store. Once inside, we understood why. Fabulous fresh made sandwiches and local fruit they let us try right there. Ever had a Longon fruit? Worth trying. Once we were on Hana Hwy, she started filling us in on all the horticulture of the island, and made a few stops so we could get out and see things, like Rainbow Eucalyptus trees, for ourselves. Then we pulled off the highway for lunch, and she sat up lawn chairs for us right at the waters edge, where the surf was crashing into the lava rock. After lunch Erin took us to a set of waterfalls that very few people know of. Pack your swim suit, as you will want to take a dip in the pool at the base of the waterfall. It's cold, but refreshing. Erin even took some candid photos of us that we didn't know about. She texted them to us later .:-) We continued on after that to a spot where they filmed Jurassic Park. You could just imagine the T-rex running through the jungle. Out of nowhere came a chicken Erin called Seeka. Legend has it she is 300 years old. There was more to see than I have space to mention. Erin was continually telling stories and pointing out things of interest. As we started back, we spotted a pickup truck pulled over that had a load of coconuts in back. Erin asked if we minded if she stopped to buy a couple coconuts. Of course we didn't. The guy turned out to be a Hana native, and he broke open a couple so we could try coconut water. A completely random experience. Anyone we talked to that said they did the Road to Hana on their own, or did a big bus tour said, " we didn't see that", when we would tell them of our experience with Erin. You should definitely book a tour!

This was my favorite excursion of many as we toured several islands. Be sure to bring your cameras so you can capture the beauty of the surf and the magnificence of the green sea turtles. Our guide, Keone, was informative and entertaining. He went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying the venture.

Aloha Patricia, thank you for your thoughts here and words of encouragement. Keone has blessed us with his unique and wonderful personality, adding a sweet dynamics to our touring COOP style Ohana. Thank you again and tell your circle of friends about Keone and his tour...this would be a great way to thank him direct as he would receive the option to take your friends out and get paid at the same time. Many blessings, Kaliya and Dave Co-Managers
