YOU can read my previous reviews and I have always been a big fan of this place. Play is restricted to hotel guests of the two resorts and cost is $350 for greens fees. While the course condition is usually impeccable it was still healing a bit from fairways and greens being punched. The biggest change is they moved all the tee markers around your skill level will determine which ones to play. Unfortunately the whites were around 6,000 yards and the blues were around 6,300. The whites have been shrunk to 5,600 and it is not a good change in my opinion. I am 67 years old and play to about a 8 but distance is a problem as one ages. I settled on the blues and shot 79 but a few holes were tough to reach in regulation for me. Regardless of this nuance it is still my favorite in the world. I played alone and finished in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Had lunch at the View restaurant- a must- and played again. Going back in May of 2022 for a week and will scale back to only 18 a day and do some skeet shooting and zip lining . I say this every time I go but never seem to leave the golf course!! If you can handle the price of admission do not miss this experience.

My review is a description of one of greatest golf days imaginable.
Early in the morning you would take the Ferry from Maui to Lanai and you were shuttled up to the “Lodge at Koele” and play at their “Experience Course”, it was a fantastic upcountry course that made you think that you were playing anywhere but hawaii, but occasionally views of the ocean would surprise you.
The round would end around 12:00, because no round of golf on lanai was ever longer then 3.5 hours. The shuttle would take you back down to the “Manele Bay resort” you would have a quick lunch and then play the “Challenge Course” ( now called “Manele Golf Course” . This course truly is one of the most exceptional courses in the world, so exceptional that “Bill Gates” got married on the 12 th green . Sadly for him the marriage didnt survive, but the course has. The views of the Ocean are truly distracting, and teeing off on the 12 th hole is probably the best the most intimidating par 3,s on the planet. The round would end just after 4:00 pm and a couple of beers at the resort before the last ferry back to Lahaina ( Maui )
This outstanding day of golf use to be booked through Cliff at the “Maui Golf Shop” and cost about $360.00 U.S, including return Ferry trip. ( pretty expensive back in 2012), but the courses were practically empty, which along with water shortages on Lanai clearly led to the closing of the “Experience Course”
The real tragedy about golf on Lanai was the “Four Seasons” decision to not allow non guests to play the course,
Since 2007 since i first visited Hawaii with my golfing buddies, Maui has lost the “Ridge Course” at Kapalua, “Kahili Golf Course”, both North and South courses at “Makena” ( Makena is now an ultra private course ) and both courses on Lanai for public play . So sad that Four Seasons wouldn't allow some public play daily on their course at Manele, because its still would be an exceptional day of golf, a great ferry ride and fantastic lunch at the Clubhouse. Just a thought !

TL;DR: Book it. Now. It's an amazing experience well worth the $350.
I'm a resident of Hawaii and have played many courses around the islands. This is now my #1. The views are amazing. The course was very well maintained. The staff are friendly, attentive, and proactive; you don't have to ask for things - they'll have it ready for you. There's a clean locker room and restaurant with an above-average selection of food. The rental clubs are very nice and forgiving Titleist T300s.

A few notes about COVID: Masks are required in the clubhouse and starting area, and the staff is courteous in the way that they enforce this. There are no rakes in the hazards, but you are given a rake in your cart. The ball and club washers on the cart are not filled with water. There is no drink cart around the course, but the staff will drive out drinks to you. The cooler on the cart is still filled with bottled water, and you're given a cold towel when you finish. All of the staff wear masks, and many wear gloves as well. There aren't any trash cans, but the staff take care of this for you. Overall, I felt absolutely safe playing here and there was little inconvenience due to COVID precautions.

My only complaint - you just get two sleeves of balls (albeit Pro V1s), and these quickly found their way into the Pacific Ocean. If you're a mediocre golfer, like me, bring some extras.

I played the course several times. The ocean views are spectacular on so many of the holes. The number 12 is is breathtaking and I could have stayed there, forever. Perfect greens, fairways and tee boxes - the landscaping is a 10. The starters were so helpful, and the driving range was exceptional with Pro V1 practice balls. The cart had GPS and digital score cards. I can hardly wait to return and play it again and again.

Manele Golf Course is what a golf course should be. The course was in impeccable shape. The staff was friendly. The views are outstanding. There were a lot of workers on the course, but that is how they keep that course in such great shape.

We would recommend this course to anyone who enjoys golf.

Im a 2 handicap who has been lucky enough to play some of the best courses in the world- but none prettier and in better shape than this one! After a 45 minute ferry ride in which we saw numerous whales at play ( mId February ) we took a shuttle to the clubhouse; the bag guys and pro shop personnel were helpful and very friendly. After getting a workout on the driving range ( complete with PRO V 1 practice balls) which overlooks the Pacific- we headed to the first tee and were treated to perfectly manicured tees and greens for the next four hours! There were a couple of blind tee shots but this hardly diminshed the over all enjoyment of the course. Number 12 is simply amazing- hit at least one shot from the tips just to get the full impact of this intimadating hole! If you are in Maui- dont miss the opportunity to play this track. Pricey but you will love it no matter what your nadicap!

Played golf at "Challenge at Manele" on island of Lanai -- it's a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. Good course but perhaps frustrating for first-time having played it. Numerous blind shots, quite a few mandatory carries over brushy areas. First time players don't know what's ahead on some holes and, if one has played it more than once, would know more on how to manage the course (where to lay up, what more to avoid, where to "let the big dog eat", etc. So, if it's the first time on this course, don't get too frustrated -- it's a Nicklaus coastal golf course and views are great. You'd probably score better on it on subsequent rounds.

Went over on a Thursday from Maui. I can't say enough about the day. First of all, the entire staff bent over backwards to make sure our day was special! We were greeted by name by our shuttle driver at lanai harbor as we disembarked from the ferry. It was about 10 minuets from the time he grabbed our bags to our arrival at the golf club. While it is not inexpensive, because holes 17 & 18 are closed for renovations, we were able to play as much golf we wanted. Our plan was to play 18 holes and then head to the resort for lunch 18 more holes and then happy hour before taking the last ferry back, but the resort had been bought out by a company and we were not allowed to visit the hotel. At first I was disappointed, but it quickly disapaited. In the golf shop is complimentary coffee, tea, water, cookies, pound cake and the best banana bread ever. We headed to the range to warm up where we could use as many balls and take as long as we wanted. If we got tired, there was a couple of rattan chairs overlooking the ocean right on the range. When we were ready, they had our bluetooth carts stocked with water, and then laughingly apologized that we might have another player on the course. After getting our music rocking, we completed 18 holes in 3 hours after letting one person play through. It was like having a private golf course. We had an amazing lunch at the golf shop restaurant which was much nicer than your average golf shop restaurant. I had the prawn BLT and my husband the rueben. It overlooked the ocean as did every hole on the golf course! After lunch, we headed out for 16 more holes and then caught the earlier ferry home. What an amazing day! Highly recommend it!!

Enjoyable from many aspects. There are several sets of tees from which you can test your game but being a resort course, it's not designed to beat you up. Beautiful views, great service and practice facilities.

I just got back from staying at the Manele Bay Resort for 5 days. This is where the "Challenge at Manele" is. I have played over 100 courses all over the world and I would definitely rate this one in the top 5. Panoramic ocean views on almost every (if not every) hole. I am a 20 handicapper and shot it the mid 80's, so it was a little easier than I thought (or maybe I was just having a good day). There are 5 tee boxes. I probably should have moved back to the blues. Regardless, the course was in perfect shape. It gets little play (probably less than 100 golfers a day), so it stays in tip top shape. Course starts and ends with easy holes, but in between, there were holes with dramatic views and perfect greens. The green fees are expensive ($225 when I played). but it is unlimited play. I played 18 holes with my wife, then played 36 more. Since there weren't that many people on the course, I played all 54 holes in about 7 hours. They give you free water + rolls and coffee in the morning at the clubhouse.
