Located in the western part of the island and accessed via at least two roads from the south, a day with sun is a must in order to enjoy the colors of this canyon. Some have described this as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific."...More

We drove to both look out points and were in awe. There are plenty of pullovers beside the road to photograph the views. There are loads of hiking trails to explore. Bring proper footwear as some parts are muddy and slippery.

The park is free and has several lookouts which provides great views to the canyon. There's a picnic place and several trails.

Definitly take the time to drive up to Waimea Canyon and look around. It totally earns the name "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific". It's even more amazing if yo see it from the air.

The road to the park itself seems long and winding, but eventually you see a sign saying you are entering the park. We didn’t quite go all the way to the very top, but did enjoy very much the views at several of the lookouts...More

Did not expect to see such a wonderful view of a canyon setting in Hawaii. Well worth the drive to this park. Many trails if hiking is your thing. With a car there are many areas to stop and look out.

The view is amazing to for someone that is driving around the area. pit stop to used bathroom, very green and you can see the ocean that is miles away from there.

Amazing to drive up the canyon. Lots of great hiking trails. Hit or miss depending on the weather but if it looks clear, make the drive up into the canyon.

It’s a very easy drive. The roads are well cared for. There are no rails but it’s not really needed. The best way to do this is take it nice and slow and do multi stops along the way and enjoy the view. It’s not a difficult... More

As the others have indicated, the park is enough above sea level that the climate and temperature does change a bit (cooler and rainier than at the beaches). The park service rents some rustic cabins and the literature... More

Kauai has the most rain of any state in the US. So... it is always possible to run into rain at the canyon. But... these rains don't last long and it is always warm, never below the mid 70s, so you shouldn't have a problem... More
