We spent the day driving up the road through the Waimea Canyon. We did some short hikes on trail of the road, stopped at every place we could and had a wonderful time. Be prepared for rain at any time. It might only last a...More
We received good advice on this trip -- go early in the day. The clouds increase as the day goes along. We did hit some rain along the way, but were in full sun at the end of the road. The views were exceptional!
As we were driving up to the canyon lookout, I must admit that I got a little queasy. There were a lot of twists & turns going up and views that kinda scared me a bit, LOL!! I kept telling my hubby to slow down...More
There is a good 20-35 minute winding drive from the base of the mountain (shore). The views and scenery were awesome. The trees and surroundings are unique to Kauai and cannot be seen elsewhere on the islands. Then as you get to the observation deck...More
WOW, UnReal, OMG... this was an amazing drive up the long winding road and each glance was more beautiful than the other...so much to see, so much to take in.
When we arrived at the Lookout past the State Park, there is a nice parking...More
First, if you choose to drive this by yourself, without a tour group I highly recommend you find Shaka Guide in the app store of whatever device you use. It is $10 but worth it! It is a turn by turn guide of the entire...More
The road leading visitors from a quint red dirt waterfall all the way to Koke’e State Park is wonderful. The lookouts, which do cost $5 total to see them all, are astonishing and offer views of the entire canyon and Waipo’o falls. Plus, there are...More

we engaged ALEX tours. This was travel by mini bus and took in several sights and attractions along the the way . Cost was only $50 US each for about a 6 hr round trip. Booking the same trip on board the cruise ship was about $150 US each. guide/driver was a local US citizen, ex school teacher and really gave us a well informed and interesting commentary as we moved around. The view from the lookout was magnificent. Helicopter would have been good and we saw a few fly the canyon but we considered to expensive and we could do so many more things in Hawaii with the $$$. Highly recommended point of interest and not to be missed.
