Grand Canyon of the Pacific!!
Nov 2021
Amazing view! takes awhile to get there and do not follow your google maps - use signs in town or you will end up elsewhere. Give yourself a few hours to take this adventure!

A gorgeous, rugged adventure
Nov 2021
The canyon is breathtaking. There are a number of lookout points you can drive to and park your car for a great view of this impressive canyon. There are also a bunch of hiking trails you can take to get into the heart of the canyon for even better views. The trails are not for the faint of heart. Make sure to bring water and appropriate gear (good hiking shoes, walking stick) because the trails are sometimes steep and muddy.

Pihea Trail
Nov 2021
I read in the Ultimate Kauai guidebook that if you do one trail in this park that you should do the Pihea Trail (the end of highway 550) so we decided to give it a try. It was a somewhat difficult one mile trail and it was very muddy and slippery the day we went. But boy, was it worth it. The views were spectacular and at several points we were above the clouds!! A must do in my opinion.

Go to the waterfall
Nov 2021 • Solo
This hike is moderate if you are in good shape and difficult if you are not. The reality is if you can make it to the top of the hill it is worth it but it goes another level by going out to the waterfall. While challenging to go down (need good tread shoes) the views make the challenge rewarding.

Beautiful - but beware of "Moderate" trails.
Nov 2021
Amazing views from many pull-over points. When we got to the top of the canyon, we took the Canyon Trail - which was listed as Moderate. It's more than Moderate: significantly steep up and down climbs. We turned around before the top because it was so exhausting. We hike a moderate amount and are in our late 50's. This is not a trail for older adults who are not in shape (which we saw several times).

Spectacular views of unsurpassed beauty.
Nov 2021
For the quick and see folks there are plenty of pullouts and parking areas for a casual walk to outstanding views. For people willing to slip and slide in the mud a bit the four-mile round trip to the top of Waipoo Falls is worth the effort. Hungry? Enjoy a great meal at the end of the road in Koke’e Park. Covid safety strictly observed. Be decadent and get the coconut pie! If you are ere will be live entertainment playing foot-tapping bluegrass music.

Awesome views

What a view!!!! I appreciated the guide's explanation of the hunting season, the different stops for viewing and photos. It is a unique geological formation, must add to your list of places to visit while in Kaua'i.

Rain, Rain Go Away!
Nov 2021
I'm sure the views would have been spectacular had we been able to actually see them through the pouring rain and fog. We, unfortunately, picked a bad day to visit the canyon.

We were also surprised to discover that it was $5/person AND $10 for the car. With 5 of us we didn't even take a chance at looking. Would have paid had it been a sunny day!

Views and a great hike
Nov 2021 • Couples
Yes it’s beautiful and worth the effort. More than anything however, get there early and don’t for the love of mud, wear crocs. This is a hike people. It’s muddy, it’s demanding for some and it’s hot. Be smart and be prepared with water and patience. Knuckle head tourists are free roaming and find it challenging to be trail courteous when on their cell phones hiking. Go home.

Beautiful and worth a day or half day Trip
Nov 2021 • Friends
It’s a beautiful drive up to the numerous canyon outlooks. We tried to do the pihea Trail but the Trail was incredibly muddy and we didn’t have any hiking poles so we turned around after 1 mile. I would recommend two things:
1. do the Canyon scenic drive and take a lot of pictures
2. if you decide to do a hike - bring hiking poles and wear clothes that can get seriously dirty. And wear hiking boots!
