About Princeville Ranch
Princeville Ranch stands alone as one of the most pristine locations for horseback riding in all of Hawaii. We've been offering one-of-a-kind horseback rides on the north shore of Kaua'i for over 40 years. We are nestled on Kauai's iconic north shore with the Hanalei mountains surrounding us. Ride horses across the ranch lands and then take a short steep hike to our 80 foot waterfall where you can swim and cool off. A short hike up and back on the horses to ride the range completes this epic adventure. We also offer private rides for an exclusive experience. Our guides are experienced and safety conscious and love what they do. They have a passion for showing people a great time and will make you feel right at home. All riding levels welcome. Advance reservations are recommended. Come take a ride with us!

Great spot for a visit; did a horse ride and waterfall tour. Group was small and intimate; no getting lost in the crowd, but plenty of space to spread out. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. The ranch itself was beautiful with gorgeous mountain views and lush greens. They're ending waterfall tours after June 30, 21 but will continue equestrienne lessons. Would highly recommend. Shout Outs to Karin, Emily & Drake for being so amazingly helpful & courteous.

Book ahead/early if you are considering doing this tour. Currently, there are only 7 spots per tour. The website provides information and some photos of what to expect. Check-in process was simple. I was asked to provide proof of vaccination (covid). Emily was our guide and she was incredible! We were given a brief lesson before getting on our horses. Every horse appeared well cared for. The ride was fun and scenic. There was a short (relatively steep) hike down to the waterfall. You descend down muddy steps to get there. The waterfall is beautiful. You can jump in the water and walk behind the waterfall for some great photos. Emily took lots of photos for us throughout the tour. After approx 30 min at the waterfall, we hiked up higher and crossed the waterfall (water shoes recommended as you will definitely get your shoes wet). We climbed up a small rock wall (had to pull up on chains) and then crossed the water again. I thought the hike was easy-moderate (just lots of muddy steps). The rock wall was easy-moderate. Emily always made sure to take care of each of us (safety first). Once you get back to your horse, it’s just a short ride back to the stable. If you like horseback riding and don’t mind hiking/getting wet- this is a nice tour.

Horse back riding was amazing!!! Ride to a trail that took us to a water fall we got to swim in. Then we climbed across the top of the waterfall and up some rocks to get back. It’s really the coolest adventure to do. Everyone was also very nice. Thank you

We did the 3 hour horseback ride in Princeville towards the end of April, 2021, shortly after the island had rejoined travel guides from the other islands, so things were just getting up to speed. We had done this particular ride a few years ago, but returned this time with another couple. The ride was a little altered in the beginning as the county was using part of the ranch/roads to deposit all the debris and mud from the Hanalei Road closure, but it probably only took off maybe 5-10 minutes of riding. The ride guide was informative and attentive, and we went off on our slow ride to the mountains. From their we dismounted and hikes (somewhat vigorous in parts) to a waterfall and pool, where we were able to relax, get some pictures, and some people got it in (water was pretty cool). Lots of bugs during the hike, so remember your bug spray. Some more hiking after the first waterfall, including crossing some mild rapids (with harness and steel cables), and ascending a small cliff wall (about 10 feet), scrambling up a chain drop. After a little more hiking, back to the horses, and the ride back to the main stables. The horses look well looked after, our tour guide described their work schedule and it seemed very reasonable. They can arrange for private rides for those who want to get up to speed on the horse, otherwise everyone is restricted to a slow controlled walk. I didn’t check the prices on those rides, but of course they are more expensive. Overall, a nice morning, with some vigorous hiking in parts, pretty views from the waterfall, easy ride on the horses.

This was by far the best adventure I have had in Hawaii. I have been on many trail rides, but this one had the added fun of a hike, swim and climb. It was well thought out and organized. All of the staff were welcoming, incredibly friendly and knowledgable. Beth was a great guide as well. She had a lot of great knowledge about the ranch, animals, and safety. The horses were well trained and it was clear they were cared for. I would go back in a heartbeat. I am so glad you all made it through COVID...and continue to thrive. Thank you!
