More
NTBG’s McBryde Garden and Allerton Garden are located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Individual tours of each garden run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore these outstanding gardens. McBryde, NTBG’s flagship garden, is home to the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian flora, many endangered or having gone extinct in the wild. It is a “botanical ark”, filled with palms, flowering trees, ornamental flowers, and unusual plants from the tropical world. Allerton is a former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

This is a beautiful garden. There are several trails to view lots of gorgeous flowers and plants. The view of the ocean is wonderful at the end of the trail. Very peaceful area. I highly recommend this place!

First, I'm not a gardener nor do I know a lot about gardening, but Allerton Garden had a lot to teach me about the culture of Kauai. Bob, our tour guide, broke open breadfruit for us to try, allowed us to pick a couple key...More

Beautiful gardens and a great tour guide (Juan). Maybe it wasn't the right time of year for flowers but the trees and other plants were beautiful. This tour was a hit too long for my 10 and 12 yr old.

Even if you are not into plants and gardens this is well worth your time and money. A little walking but mostly riding. The guide was very helpful and explained as we went along. It was warm the day we went. Better if planned for...More

This activity was well worth the time and money. The gardens are beautiful and the numbers of plant species is huge. The acreage is huge but they meter the number of people allowed to walk the grounds so you never experience crowds. You should book...More

No the senior pass does not work because they are private. The Gardens are well worth the expense. The pass does admit your party to the Kilauea Lighthouse.

I believe the McBryde Gardens tour is more about the plants and a shorter tour. The midday Allerton Gardens tour takes well over two hours. Besides hearing about the plants you hear a lot of wonderful stories about the site... More
