When you read TripAdvisor reviews you'll see a heavy focus on the Allerton Gardens (mainly because of Jurassic Park scenes) but you're missing out on quite a bit if that is the only tour you do. My husband and I highly suggest spending an extra...More
We took the self guided trail which was fantastic with lots of information provided throughout the gardens
The bus takes you from the visitor centre to the gardens- a distance of about 2 miles
You can take a guided tour but we wanted to meander...More
There are a couple of different tours. Our guide was great and very informative. If you like plants, this is a great tour of beautiful gardens. We saw where scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed and where scenes from Jurrasic Park was filmed....More
Impressive grounds with diverse flora and fauna. Orchids and flowers everywhere as we explored the grounds. Worth checking out while visiting spouting horn as they are directly across the street from one another.
We decided to visit the botanical gardens based largely on the Trip Advisor reviews we read and we were not disappointed. The trails are lush, gorgeous and stunning. The tour guides are so incredibly knowledgeable and provide fascinating background on the gardens and their history....More
We did the combo tour with "Frank" (I'm really sorry that I forgot his real name, but he said to mention Frank if we were writing a bad review). We picked the combo because we didn't know which garden to pick, but it ended up...More
Bus ride to the gardens, then a 1 1/2 hour guided walk through the gardens. Great visit, seeing many tropical plants and birds, Spectacular scenery and magnificent gardens. Parking and rest rooms at the Spouting Horn on the coast - also very interesting.
We did the combo tour Botanical Gardens and Allerton Garden. Our guide was Tanji. He was outstanding, very informative, fun and interesting. There were three parts to the tour. The first took us to the research facilities where they are working to save the endangered...More
I have lived here for 13 years and had never taken the Allerton Gardens tour. How I wished I done this sooner! From the start, the staff was professional and kind. My mom has some trouble walking, and the agent I spoke with let me...More

I believe the McBryde Gardens tour is more about the plants and a shorter tour. The midday Allerton Gardens tour takes well over two hours. Besides hearing about the plants you hear a lot of wonderful stories about the site and the previous owners. You have to take a bus from the gift shop to get there. Call for a reservation. The prices are on the site. I don't recall what we paid. On a different day we did the Lihue Gardens self-guided tour near Ke'ee beach and the beautiful Nepali Coast. It was raining off and on so make sure to wear good walking shoes not flip flops. They provide you with walking sticks. As opposed to the Allerton Gardens which were developed by Euro-Americans, the Lihue Gardens is about the endemic and native species of plants, how they got there and the native Polynesian culture. Both Gardens are well worth your time.
