NTBG’s McBryde Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this outstanding garden, known for its diverse collection of tropical plants. McBryde, NTBG’s flagship garden, is home to the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian flora, many endangered or having gone extinct in the wild. It is a “botanical ark”, filled with palms, flowering trees, ornamental flowers, and unusual plants from the tropical world.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

Lovely Gardens to Explore

On the last day of our trip, we left our young adult daughters behind and went to explore McBryde Garden. At $30 a person, if you're not that interested you shouldn't go. The... read more

Our visit turned out to be a nice getaway from pool/beach time. We didn't do the guided tour, but we still learned a lot from the driver during the shuttle ride to the gardens. The gardens were quite lovely and it was easy to do even with unwilling children. If we didn't have kids with us, we might have done... More

If only in Kauai 3 days, this HAS to be 1 of the places you must visit. But also visit next door ALLERGEN BOTANIC GARDENS. Together they comprise 2500 acres of breathtaking tropical forests, flowers, gorgeous landscaping for many movie sets. There are mini vans to drive you around the sprawling wonderland!

On the last day of our trip, we left our young adult daughters behind and went to explore McBryde Garden. At $30 a person, if you're not that interested you shouldn't go. The way the garden tour is set up, you check in at the South Shore Visitor Center (near Spouting Horn) for both the McBryde and the Allerton Gardens.... More

This is a beautiful place to come and walk around and enjoy nature - it's quiet, it has an incredible variety of plant life and birds that I thoroughly enjoyed. Each trail has a different focus such as medicine plants and plants that the Polynesians brought in their canoes to the islands. You can also get some decent exercise without... More

McBryde Gardens is a great place to have a change of pace. At this time there are also Lego attractions from an eagle, compass, and various other things that add to the place. The legos are only here for about three months for people to enjoy. The flowers and grounds are beautiful! Well worth going to and you can walk... More

We learned a lot about the medicinal uses of the native plants. Our guide Sam was an enthusiastic person who loved his land. We enjoyed walking through the beautiful gardens with Sam showing and telling abo it the many uses of the different plants. Sam was very knowledgable and gave great background information about how the gardens came to be.... More

We spent over 3 hours touring the McBryde Garden, part of the National Botanical Garden. If you are there for the whole day, consider adding the Allerton Gardens to your tour. All tours begin with a tour bus ride to the garden you are visiting. Maps are located throughout these gardens, we went on a self-guided tour after getting many... More

So very beautiful but we had tickets for a day that it was raining so we didn't enjoy it as much as if it was sunny. There are brochures throughout the island where you can read more and get a better idea if its something you want to do. We were at a conference and had an organized BBQ there... More

We read all the reviews - people seem to love this place. We believed them, so we went. We're not big garden people, but we went to one on the big island last year that we really liked, so we had high hopes. Good grief! It's not impressive. You're going to pay $ 30 each to walk around a "garden"... More

So, I just walk around a little bit. I sees some rare ducks, and of course some fruit trees including papaya trees. The coolest part is that I see Lego sculptures.
