NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

We did the Sunset dinner and even my 13 year old loved it. It iso peaceful in the gardens with wonderful walks as you explore the different "Rooms" in the garden. Enjoyed the guided tour and seeing the imagination that it took to design the gardens. We had fun taking photos in the Jurassic Park trees. We also had dinner... More

I was in Kauai last week and looking for a different type of activity while in the Poipu Beach area. Based on TA reviews we decided on the Allerton Gardens and the guided tour of the guardens. I must say I was thinking of a typical garden experience, this is much different and much more! This garden is complete with... More

What a beautiful Botanic garden ! Well explained trails, where you see many rare plants. Outstanding view of the ocean on the drive to the gardens.

This is the Most fabulous botanical garden in the USA, bare none. Jurassic Park, Donovan's Reef & Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed here (& probably more movies). It is full of huge prehistoric looking trees, giant bamboo forests, tropical flowers galore. But, NO poisonous bugs or critters or alligators or snakes or Malaria or Dengue or bad guys lurking... This was our first time with our ohana here but previously viewed in 2009. Our '09 guide was better....but scenery cannot be duplicated. Awesome....particularly the Jurrassic Park trees...great photos. Be advised....park only contains one native plant.....

Allerton Gardens, part of the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, is preserved exactly as planned by Robert Allerton who designed and donated them. Amazing plants and flowers, beautiful water features surround the house with its gorgeous beach. The sunset tour allows you to wander inside the house, and the discovery tour gives a sample of Allerton Gardens and McBryde gardens. Both... More

Today I took the boys to the National Botanical Gardens in Koloa near Spouting Horn. They had a 'Nature Connects: Art with Lego' exhibit - ends July 10, 2016. It was good, but a bit of a stretch given that the 13 Lego pieces were dotted around the gardens and my boys could only must 3 of the 6+ trails... More

My 80-year old dad and I did the 3-hour tour. It was very informative and we enjoyed it. It would have been better if it were a little shorter - we went at an extremely slow pace (even for my dad)!

I grew up on Kauai and never visited this place until I returned to visit family. This garden is great, with a large area to view, lots of traditional plants brought over by the original Polynesians, local and indigenous plants, and more. It's easy to spend half a day here strolling around the grounds soaking it all in. The flowers... More

After a week of adventure, our family of four chose to have a quieter morning exploring this tropical paradise. Sam was the best garden guide, explaining history of garden, and native uses of plants while also entertaining the less botany interested members of our group. Expensive morning but very interesting.
