NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

6 of us took the 2 hour guided walking tour of the grounds and gardens. Our guide was Soren - a very knowledgeable person who shared information on the history as well as insights to the many plants, trees and flowers. The cost was $50 per person- and well worth it!

So I have to say how surprised I was at this tour. It may be a little biased because we had the tour all to ourselves which was a treat. We toured the Allerton Gardens at about 3:00. We had Martín as our tour guide. Honestly this was one of my favorite things that we did on the island and... More

We enjoyed the Allerton Garden Sunset tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and down to earth. The walk was pleasantly paced. The Jurassic Park tress were amazing! When a few mosquitos came out, he showed us local berries that you could rub on your skin for instant relief! I would highly recommend this tour.

We love flowers and plants so this was a wonderful 2 hour tour and well worth the $50 each. Our tour guide David was very knowledgable about the history, plants and statuary. If you love the islands for their foliage then I would highly recommend putting this on your agenda!

Very beautiful place. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable . The gardens are gorgeous and very well maintained. Could spend an entire day here and still not see everything.

We took the Allerton Garden tour at sunset recently. Our guide was very knowledgeable with the history and plant species we were able to see on the tour. Since I am a photographer, I got some great pictures on this tour. The light dinner that was served at the end of the tour, during sunset, was delicious. I highly recommend... More

Take the tour to hear all about Allerton and his gardens and the influences found in them. A bit too much Jurassic Park hype for me but the balance of the tour was entertaining and informational.

This tour is so very special, do not miss it!!! The settings are not the usual flower gardens with so many same flowers. This is a variety of settings , special gardens and awesome for photo ops. You will remember it for a long time, special on this Island of Kauai.

This was our last day of our trip and we didn't have a flight until after 10pm at night and needed to find something to do. I remembered doing some research on Allerton Gardens and decided to do one of their tours. We arrived ahead of time for their 2pm tour and it looked as though we were going to... More

Stunning gardens with many amazing gardens within gardens (Diana's, Thanksgiving, Bamboo, Corrugated, Three Pools, etc.) something very different at every corner. Juan was our guide and although he obviously is passionate and knowledgeable about these gardens and the island, I felt like at times he treated us like little 3rd grader, dumming down what he said. The famous Jurassic Park... More
