Exploring KAUAI BY KAYAK since 1977

For years, Island Adventures has introduced visitors and Kama'ainas (residents), to the magic of the Hule'ia River and it's 241 acres of National Wildlife Refuge.

More recently, the owners of this small company set out to improve on what was already known to our visitor industry professionals as one of the very best kayak trips on Kauai.

"We set out in search of an elusive waterfall that existed only in the memories of a handful of long time Kauai locals. Because of the thick jungle growth, an aerial survey of the area was fruitless. This search for a secret waterfall was to send us on a mission, through thick tangled jungle with no cut trails. After several difficult trips into the valley we were rewarded with the sound of rushing waters. Still, dense vegetation made it impossible to get a close look. We could hear it but couldn't see it"

It took two more attempts for the Island Adventures crew of explorers to make their most exciting discovery. After rappelling down a cliff to the river below, the found not one, but two treasures: Jungle Waterfalls, the tallest one was over 50' high.

A whole year and a half later, a trail had been mapped and cut. Now you don't havce to be Tarzan to enjoy this very special place, which has become the main destination of Island Adventures latest tours. "This Ain't No Zipline" and "Hawaiian Dundee".

This activity was unlike anything we've ever done before and an adventure that we will always remember...definitely a highlight of our trip. The good: The crew was amazing. They clearly love what they do, and put a lot of emphasis on training and safety. They also seem to be very good stewards of the land and interested in conserving Kauai's... More

We did the kayaking tour. The water is brackish so not pretty to look at and you will want water safe shoes that are strapped to your foot. While the excursion was fun, there was a lot of time spent waiting around. There probably just weren't enough staff members. Once we got in the kayak we spent 15-20 minutes waiting... More

I wish I could actually review this attraction. From everything I had read it seemed like an amazing experience. Last week I booked their Hawaiian Dundee tour for August. My credit card was charged accordingly. Today, a few days later, I receive a call that they are cancelling my reservation because there was an "exclusive buy out" of the river.... More

Competent and safety-conscious staff start the day with a detailed and narrated kayak tour and, after a short hike through lush groves, bring the group to review a few basic rappelling techniques at a practice "base camp". Then, it's off to rappel some of the most gorgeous waterfalls! Test your mettle and technique while taking in some breathtaking scenery. Worth... More

Yesterday Jack took us around the island. He was very informative . He took time to show us sights that others don't see. Today we went on directors cut with Kevin . We went to excellent cafe for lunch.. Kevin was not real friendly but he was informative.

I booked this tour through Norweign's Pride of America where is was named Discover Jungle Falls and Kayak; repelling was not part the tour I took...maybe because we did the tour on our day 2 in Kauai which requires us being back on the boat midday. Anyway, I was scared being it was my first time in a kayak but... More

My husband and I LOVED this waterfall adventure! The crew were very safety conscious, running us through all that was needed to make sure we could be successful and have fun. Neither my husband nor I are high adventure individuals, but we accomplished waterfall rappelling with flying colors.

This was a unique and excellent tour during our vacation. Yes there was waiting as other people took their turns, but you have to expect that for a tour like this. Our 3 guide were very personable and knowledgeable, and we would do the tour again on a return trip. One of the most unique experiences on Kauai and definitely... More

First, I will say that this was by far the most unique and fun adventure that we had during our stay on Kauai. I recommend it in a heartbeat! The waterfalls are beautiful and the actual rappelling is so much fun! That said, I agree with other reviewers that give feedback that there is too much waiting. It started from... More

I knew from the beginning after meeting Tanya during check in that this was going to be an awesome adventure. She personally got to know each person by name and made sure we were safely geared up. Then after a short drive up to the private property where the practice wall and waterfalls are located, we met Charlie/ Dundee. He... More
