I have to start off by saying that this adventure is not for everyone. It is more challenging than Norwegian rates it. With that said, it was definitely something I would recommend to anyone that likes a more physically demanding excursion. It's not overly difficult, but it is physical. The scenery is amazing and the tour guides were knowledgeable. The adventure starts off with kayaking. After a quick tutorial, you launch into a very shallow area so you can get some practice in before heading out. You would think that 2 1/2 miles is a lot, but it goes much quicker than expected. There are a couple of stops along the way and you get some good stories and a little history (probably exaggerated, but funny). Before you realize it, you're done. I won't get into too much detail because I would hate to spoil it, but it's a quick hike to the vans and a short drive to the trailhead to the waterfalls. The trail down is a little steep and slick so it's not for those with mobility issues. Again, I don't want to spoil it do I'll just say that the waterfalls are amazing and it's so worth the trip. Thank you to our tour guides for one of the best excursions I was able to experience.

I cannot express how happy I am with my experience on this tour. Our guides were both fantastic and knowledgeable. The trip and hike were both a great workout and the views were beautiful. Note*** if booking though the cruise this is a Level 3 hike, the guides have asked that Norwegian change the hike from a 2 to a 3 and the cruise has said no. This is not an excursion for the out of shape.

My wife and I booked The “Discover jungle falls by kayak and hike“ through Norwegian Cruise line. The tour as described online looked appealing for one of the days we were on Kawai. The tour operator picked us up at the pier and transported us to Nawiliwili Boat Harbor about 5 mins from the cruise ship. We were escorted to the nearby boat ramp where we we’re offered life preservers. We were given a two person kayak with “seat backs” that were no longer adjustable due to disrepair and age of the kayak. Needless to say, within minutes of kayaking our backs were in pain and by the time completed the 2.5- Mile Kayak Trip we were extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this issue took away from the beauty we were supposed to be enjoying. After a quick stop at an historic fish pond, we dropped off the kayak off on the river bank. From their, we completed a short walk to where the vans were parked. The walk took us past a junk abandoned car and an area where caged dogs barked aggressively at us. The guide took off at the river bank and was way ahead of the group. He was near the van when we got to where the vans were parked and briefly spoke to us about an Hawaiian tree. We loaded into the vans and took a short 10 min rIde to Waterfall Trail Head. From here we took a 20 minute hike down a treacherous and very steep and slippery muddy embankment (trail). The mud in itself was dangerous enough, but it was compounded by tree roots and old dilapidated steps that should have been replaced years ago. Their were old ropes tied to the trees that folks had to hold onto to prevent themselves from falling into a deep ravine. Old ski poles were provided to help with your footing. This trail is unsuitable for most people and anyone suffering from stability or physical limitations. This trail is also unsuitable for children under the age of 12 years old. Many participants the day we were on the excursion fell as they descended this trail. Once to the bottom you come to bamboo Falls which is pretty but not extraordinary. Continuing along the trail an additional five minute hiking through muddy and slippery rocks you come to Papakolea Falls, often called "Dundee Falls" by the locals, which is a 60-ft falls. The tour operation suggest you can swim in the pool below or slip behind its rushing wall of water for a totally Hawaiian experience, but their in a bacteria in the water that should be avoided. It’s now time to work your way back up the Treacherous trail to a poorly maintained picnic area where lunch is served by the tour operator. The tables were covered by chicken feces and finding a clean spot to sit was challenging. The Sandwiches were reasonable and the soft drinks were cold. Throughout the tour there was very little information given about this historic region of Hawaii and the operator left us with the feeling they simply wanted to quickly finish the excursion. I would avoid this tour and consider other more appropriate adventures on this beautiful island. I have to mention that this tour is offered by Noregion cruise lines under the provider name the of “Island Adventure” however after considerable research the actual providers name is “Da Life Outdoors”. I spoke to Da Life Outdoors to find this out that this excursion is designed exclusively for Noregion Cruise lines.

I come from a family that loves to travel. We spent a week in Hawaii and did every excursion under the sun, celebrating a wedding. We are a family that loves adventure but I myself am always super scared and nervous when we try new things and I am especially terrified of heights. This tour was incredible in so many ways, mainly due to our guides Matt and Renan. They were kind, funny, super organized and accommodating, and helped me so much through my fear of heights and ensured I had the best experience possible. The scenery was incredible...totally untouched and natural in its beauty. Each waterfall we repelled down was better than the last and even though it was a high level to repel from, the guides made it seem easy because of how much they help you through it and ensure your safety. The waterfalls were stunning and we were totally immersed in nature. I was in awe of the total experience. There is really nothing like it.

The waterfall rappelling is an amazing experience! Our guides (Matt and Renan) were the best!!!! I had only rappelled once before (over 30 years ago when I was in high school) and my husband had never done it. Matt and Renan did a great job explaining all of the equipment and exactly what we needed to do to have fun and be safe. So glad we did this!!
