About
The Hawaii Alive Luau Show is an outstanding show that brings you a unique and authentic Polynesian cultural experience through live traditional chants, music, drumming and dancing from the islands of Hawaii, Tahiti and Samoa. The show is located within the Marriott's enchanting tropical gardens and includes live music, an interactive host, traditional and modern hula, ancient chants, a chance to learn the hula yourself, Tahitian dancing, and the thrilling Samoan fire knife. We also offer optional private dining prior to the show, which you can enjoy an All You Can Eat Hawaiian Buffet(includes one alcohol beverage), with just your family or guests in the open air at the Kaua'i Marriott's Kukui's poolside/oceanfront restaurant.

There were only 3 Luau’s open when we went to Kauai this last week. This was the only one that had seats left so I booked it for grandma and the 4 teens. This is what they had to say about it~. It is at the Sonesta which is very beautiful inside. The walk from the valet parking down to the Luau was a little long. The dinner portion was delicious with a variety of Hawaiian offerings. Each adult gets 1 free alcoholic beverage so they had Mai Tai’s which were good. Hawaii is in phase 4 Covid, so masks had to be worn when you were not eating. The show was amazing! They said there are only 9 performers as it is such a small stage. They were amazed by the fire and the Hula dancers and loved the story that was being told. In all, they said they would go again.

Awsome flying by great pilots and there expertise.
The exhibits were also good.
The down side was that I feel to get in, you are being scammed. Because you can't take your food in. I was told I couldn't take my camera back pack, to big I was told but could take in similar size as a bag. I heard that a woman couldn't take in wet wipes, she had to take them back to her car. They want you to buy the most expensive food on this planet. Beware its a scam.
Also getting in was a joke. People that got there early were put further away from the entrance and people came later were put nearer.
The biggest joke was getting out we got in our car at 4pm never left the car lot util 7.30pm, grid locked no way out. Badly planned.

As a couple others mentioned, this is not a full fledged luau with all the traditions such as blowing the conch shell and having a roast pig pit. First of all, it's not outside as such; it's a patio area adjacent to interior garden. Very simple. Disappointing as we were led to believe it was "on the beach"! No special effects. It is a nice comfortable family run operation, but not great for the money.
Food was adequate; chicken was dry; good desserts. All buffet style.

I normally don’t write one star reviews but this luau was so bad I feel obligated to post this so others don’t have a bad experience on their vacation. I’ve been to the Smiths Luau and the luau at the Hyatt in Poipu and highly recommend those as they have a higher level of customer service than what was found at Hawaii Alive.

There were many things I found bad with the luau, but in the interest of keeping this short, I’ll focus on what could most easily be fixed with additional manpower.

The night started with a long line at the checkin. One person handles all entry into the luau. We stood in line for what seemed like forever waiting for the one lone person who manages the tickets to check every family in. Then when trying to get seated, the hostess try’s to separate my family of four so she could leave an open space at the end of the table in the off chance the table across has an odd number she needed to sit. I had to explain to her I wanted to sit with my family, but she was very adamant on leaving an open seat at our table and staggering my family’s seating.

Every beverage other than water is distributed by one bartender. Some tables who paid a premium were served by servers who took drink orders leaving the general admission commoners to get their own drinks. Either way, Both servers and general customers had to request their drinks from the one bartender hired to work the luau. After getting food, I got into the line to get my family soda. The overworked bartender did his best to serve the drinks as fast as he could but as I found out, the servers were allowed to cut the line to order drinks to serve their customers, leaving the common folk waiting in line while everyone else was allowed to eat. I waited in line long enough that my family had actually finished eating before I was able to return with their drinks.

We felt like we were at a high school musical. The information say it was from 6-8 pm, the show started at 7 and ended at 7:45. My husband and I have been to several Luau’s before and brought our friends for her birthday. They had never been to one. What an embarrassment. The food was barely warm and so so and were were amongst the first group to eat it. For $150.00 per person this was a total waste of money. I would never recommend this to anyone.

We purchased two tickets to the Hawaii Alive Luau through the Sheraton Kauai Concierge desk, thinking it would be a typical Marriott good experience. It was the worst Luau that we have ever attended. The following are the issues that we had
1. Luau was held indoors, in a ballroom, rather than outside. It lacked the atmosphere of a traditional luau. No where on the confirming email was there any mention that the event would be indoors (weather was NOT an issue). Website shows an outdoor setting - false advertising.
2. Food was mediocre. Compared to other luaus, the food was mediocre in quality
3. Only one ‘free’ drink was provided, and it was extremely skimpy on portion size. Not at all similar to other luaus. Cost of additional drinks was very high.
4. The dancers/show was very amateurish. They did not have the skill set needed
The price was considerably more that other luau that had: better food, outdoor atmosphere, unlimited drinks, professional dancers, better memories

Bottom line, we were EXTEMELY disappointed with this luau. It clearly was not worth anywhere close to the $307.40 (for two people) that we paid.

This is the second lual I have been in Hawaii, so comparing the experience from the first one with this it’s frustrating.
There was a huge line to get in, I don’t understand why it took so long, about 40 minutes.
They gave us a little rounded table for 3 people, we had to go to another line to pickup the food, in the line you tell which food you want and they put in a plate to you. They give you two plates (or three if you grab the desert together).
So we went back to the table with 6 plates, and of course they didn’t fit into the small table. In the way back from the buffet to the table is enough to the food get cold. I spent one week in the island, the food in hawaii is amazing, but the food they serve here was the worst I ate in the trip and for sure the most expensive one.
They give you ONE ticket per person for a drink, they have only a handful options that aren’t the best. If you want to drink more you have to pay more.
The show was good, but when you put the whole experience into the place you spend there, it doesn’t worth at all.
So in the end, if you are going for the food, don’t go, help yourself in a good restaurant.

I wanted to love this But it felt very in organized from start to finish … disorganization when we got there 15 min before it wasn’t set up where to stand or enter …. You get in and r given 1 drink ticket included is alcohol and non alcoholic bev U need to pay for another soda if needed (ridiculous) … the stage setup felt cheap like I was at a back yard bbq and watch a amateur band The dancer although beautiful it was very like a teenage dance class !! Very under whelming ….. loved the story behind how they started the luau but for the cost I would save ur money and find a real luau … this is just a buffet (which was bot bad ) and like live music and dancing at a high end bar lol !!!

This was a total rip-off! $145 per person for one complimentary (!) drink and a cafeteria style food service. While a decent selection, it hardly worth the price. The ‘luau’ was held in a hotel conference room, not outdoors. The web site is misleading on this point. The show itself was short, but well performed. Best part of the night. Surely there are better options on Kauai.

Arrived early, like others have noted, waited on long line to check in for an experience in a formal ballroom? No welcome Leis, no photographs... Waited in another long line for the one complimentary drink with only one bartender working. . The food line was actually the only thing that was efficient. The food was your average buffet. Show was sentimental but we saw a better show at the Kilohana plantation. This show ended promptly at 8pm, so overall experience was less than two hours. The only convenience was that the show was where we were staying. Overall, not a prudent expenditure.......
