Certainly in a tourist trap area as it's where the cruise ships park. The beach is OK and there is plenty of parking. The beach is OK, but small. We swung in right after our flight to check it out but there are other beaches worth spending more time at in Kauai.

As the cruise ship docked early in the morning, I had the chance to go out and about.
I wa surprised because after so many visits on this port, only now i managed to go out to the nearby KAlapaki beach. The beach is very nice due to its physical structure of long brownish gold yellow sand..fine texture of course! You can scrub it into your legs and get that ooohh effect...hahah...also i took a jogging along the sand from one end to end...took me about 788 steps or so! Hopefully i did not get distracted counting as I passed thru the sexy girls sunbathing in their triangle swimsuit! The swimming area is shallow wide form which makes it perfect for kids and non swimmers, too!..Nearby food resto are many and you may select which ever suit your palette or your budget maybe...remember, its Hawaii!
Surfing is also a popular water activity here.
Free entrance to the beach area makes it 5/5 on my rating plus all the things you wanted on a beach...especially the sunny weather!
P.S. Im here on a daytime only. Night scenarios are not sure for me how it is. This is my 2nd experience on this beach though i been here in Nawiliwili many times during the years that I cruise here. First one i was out was last month! hahaha

While exploring Kauai during our cruise stop, we spent time at Kalapaki Beach not one, but twice! Nice sandy area, near shops, restaurants and a large hotel. There is an area off to the right where you can paddleboard, snorkel, and surf. Rent some beach equipment and chairs at the tiny shop before the beach for a more comfortable visit.

There is plenty of things you and I, tourists as well as locals can do here to make this beach a little cleaner. Lots of wave.

Great Beach by the airport and food/ drink accommodations close by. Dukes Kauai is right there on the walking path next to the resort. volleyball courts, boogie board friendly, beginner surf ready, turtles, beach chairs, solid pocket of sun.

We love this beach. Lots of food places and activities to enjoy this beach. You do it is in front of the "Marriott" and you do not need to stay there to enjoy it. Parking is close by near a shopping area..

We enjoyed a morning /early afternoon half day at the beach. It was a weekend so getting a little crowded with locals. High surf when we were visiting some it was a paddle board/surf beach on the day we went. Grassy area and beach available to the public outside the Marriott resort. Not much there’s but Dukes. Dukes is a great place to sit at the bar or have lunch.

I loved this beach! The waves were calm, it is surrounded by beautiful mountains and there is an easy access beach and grassy area. A great place to enjoy some relaxing beach time.

Is it possible to walk from the cruise ship to the Marriott Hotel with an elderly aunt & mother in a wheelchair? They just want to have a drink and gaze at the sea while we want to go for a swim.

If you're not staying at the Mariott and will be at the beach for just a few hours is there somewhere to rent chairs and umbrellas?

We didn't have to rent chairs or umbrellas since we were staying at the Marriott, however, I just googled Kauai Beach Boys and here's what it says:
Classic Hawaii beach boy style, Kauai Beach Boys is Kalapaki's fun headquarters! Located on Kalapaki Beach next to Duke's Barefoot Bar you can take lessons or rent beach equipment to practice your skills at: stand up paddle boarding, surfing, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, body boarding, and beach bumming with chairs and umbrellas. Kalapaki Bay is the best place for beginners to take a surf or stand up lesson on Kauai. They have all the gear and a nice retail store to shop and buy gear of your own. The energetic staff enjoy getting wet with you or answering questions. Every day is a good day to get in the surf at Kalapaki Beach, learn tips form the best locals.
Hope that helps. Have a great vacation. This is a beautiful!!!!! place.
