About
Seasport Divers got its start back in 1986. A lot has changed since then, but one thing’s always stayed the same -- our passion for scuba diving. In the years that we’ve been here, we’ve grown to be the biggest dive shop on the island. You can rent everything you need to explore the ocean: snorkels, diving tanks, and even beach chairs and boogie boards. We also sell all the spearfishing gear you might need. Our crew can also take you out on a diving excursion to experience some of the best views in Hawaii. On the scuba visit to Ni'ihau, you even get to embark on some of the most pristine and dramatic diving in the area.

It's not easy to do a dive during the pandemic, even in Kauai. Due to health concerns, almost every dive shop stopped offering free dive master guide service. Compared with other dive shop, this place offers dive master guide at a more reasonable price. The dive master was great, he wear mask all the time even when he was already vaccinated. Since me and my gf didn't have a lot of open water dive experience, we really appreciate the patience of the dive master. The shore dive location is very close to the dive shop, and they have all the equipment set up before heading to the beach. The water is warm (75F) in February and visibility around 30 ft, which was better than I thought since it just rained the day before. There were a lot of fishes and we even saw a big turtle underwater! We went as deep as 35ft and stayed underwater for almost an hour. It was an unforgettable experience.

Great dive sites, dive masters, and 'save a dive' crew. Dove at Sheraton caverns (so many turtles, so cool) and Hanakaape Bay (lots of fish and turtles). One of our divers had their personal regulator hose break during set up, and the onsite equipment engineer was able to replace and test a new regulator hose within 15 minutes and only charged us for the parts. Saved the whole dive trip.

We had 2 great dive masters Andrew and a woman I can't remember the name of but she went to the University of Miami for undergrad. We had a mix of very experienced and medium experienced divers in our group and the dive masters were the right amount of attentive to the divers that needed more help. For our first dive, they went a bit too fast for us, but during the surface interval we asked to go slower and they went the perfect speed for our group after that. Additionally, during our boat dives, they would allow dive pairs that had better air consumption to stay down longer with a dive master and send the heavy air consumption pairs up to the other dive master and captain. It was really nice because we felt like we got our moneys worth rather than all of us having to go up when the newby non-our-group person went through their air twice as fast. Highly recommend them, especially if you are a medium+ experienced diver looking for a dive crew that will respect your experience.

(Also, I really appreciated that during the predive safety talk they told us to not touch the bottom or the animals because we were entering their home. As someone who wants these dive sites to last and cares about underwater conservation, I was so happy to know that they are putting in the effort to ensure that these dive sites remain pristine and protected for the next visitors. I'm hoping in the future they put more emphasis on wearing reef safe sunscreen and ways divers can avoid running into the reef.)

My daughter and I signed up for a dive off the Kauai coast with SeaSport Divers. It was fantastic. Even though our conditions were not optimal, the crew and our diving instructor were superb. Chloe was a patient, capable and fun person to dive with. She made an amazing experience even more so. She knew all the spots, took time to point out sealife we may have missed and in general made the dive more enjoyable. Definitely a repeat.

TLDR: Expensive and the boat captain was obnoxious. I would not book with them again.

Cost was over $420 per diver. They have everyone show up 60-90 minutes prior to when the boat actually leaves the pier. Kind of annoying at $400 dollars a day to sit at the pier and watch them load tanks for an hour.

The captian (Andrew was his name I think) insisted everyone leave their shoes at the pier in a crate, that they locked in a van. He went on about how you don't need shoes when boat diving. Then he was the only person on the boat wearing shoes. When we got back to the pier; it took the staff ten minutes to go get the crate from the van that they left all of our shoes in.

I was excited about the food. They mention a full lunch on the website for their all day dive. The food that was provided was the stuff no one buys for themselves at costco. Costco muffins, costco sandwiches, and costco pasta salad. They had massive coolers on board, but those turned out to be for the skipper's undersized fish.

The skipper was trawling during our surface intervals. He would complain about the overfishing in Hawaii's waters; then hooked some smalls (even mentioned how the fish were so small they were bouncing on the surface) but immediately threw them in the cooler when the lines were reeled in.

After the last dive, we were motoring back and captain obnoxious managed to hook the sea floor with one of his fishing lines, so we all got to spend 30 minutes watching him slowly reverse the boat and send one of the divemasters to retrieve his lures.

The fishing delays between dives, and the snag on the bottom probably added 90+ minutes to the trip.

Bottom line: if this is the only company offering Niihau trips when you want to dive then I guess you are stuck. Otherwise, I would avoid having to deal with SeaSport's obnoxious boat captain.

Aloha Dylan, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that you didn't have a good time with us as this is really unusual. We will do our best to improve per your review, on things that can be change. You are probably talking about your Ni'ihau charter, a 12h full day excursion. I hope the diving was good, as this is the best diving in Hawaii and our boat is one of the most comfortable on island for this long trip. Please next time, let us know if you have any food allergies or food preferences and we will do our best to follow through. I am glad to hear that Captain Andrew talked about over fishing from big companies, since it affects locals who are trying to feed their families and friends. With that being said, Andrew should have asked everyone on board to see if it was ok with you guys for him to fish. If you have any other concerns, feel free to contact us by email: info@seasportdivers.com We hope to see again in the future to change your view of Seasport Divers Mahalo Seasport Divers staff

Took my first dive and blew through my air in less than 30 minutes. Asked the boat captain if my tank was a 100 and was told "No, they were all used yesterday. You don't really need a 100, you just need to work on your breathing." I responded that they offer a 100 tank and I reserved a 100 tank (not to mention I paid extra for the tank and booked the dive 2 months in advance). The response was more coaching on my breathing. Don't get me wrong, I'm open to all the coaching I can get and know I can do better on an 80, but don't offer me something for an extra fee, which was reserved well in advance, and then stiff me! If no one needs a 100, why do you offer them?

Also, not impressed that the other dive master lost one of his divers who ended up surfacing about 100 yards from the boat in a total panic and the other diver master swore out loud in front of us about having to go out and rescue them! Of course the dive master did comment on the drive from the shop to the boat that having to keep track of seven divers (we had seven divers) was much harder than six, so it looks like he was right!

Aloha John, I am sorry that you didn't have a good experience with us. It should have been different and you definitely should had your 100. Did you get a refund? If not, please contact the dive shop and ask for a refund. You shouldn't pay for what you didn't get. The water here in Hawaii can be unpredictable and we need to be careful with that but our maximum number of divers per divemaster is 7 people. We try our best to have divers listen underwater and stay close to the group, as some divers like to do their own things in a guided dive. It is an unfortunate part of diving in a big group, separation could potentially happen in big tour. Our divemasters are trained for those types of situations and to handle them with professionalism while being safe for the other divers and the crew We hope that you come back dive with us next time your on island so we can put this bad experience behind us and give you a proper dive trip, as it should be. We took an afternoon 2 tank dive and found the staff to be varied from helpful and pleasant to grumpy and dismissive to our questions about dive locations what to expect to see etc. The boat Captain was very nice and made significant efforts to provide a smooth and memorable ride to the dive sites, even deviating to maximize whale and dolphin viewing. The dive master, Cole, was wholly unprofessional swimming ahead, expecting everyone to keep up, almost never even aware of whether all of the group were together or in trouble and never monitored group members remaining air. At one point a diver had an equipment problem and Cole was not even aware that the diver was continuing the dive with his tank under his arm!

In general most dive spots that I have been to around Kauai (6 dive spots) are sandy bottoms with minimal coral and relatively few fish compared to other Tropical locations. There are lots of green turtles.

We're sorry to hear our crew was inattentive and will be having a conversation with them about how we can serve our wonderful guests better. Thank you for your honest review. We are glad you were able to see plenty of turtles, dolphins, and Whales.

I did the Niihau 3-tank dive and I cannot recommend it enough. We saw monk seals, sharks, sea turtles at some of the most beautiful dive sites I have ever seen. The visibility was 100+ ft all day, making it great conditions for spotting sea life.

Captain Andrew, Isaac, Doug, and Erika were great at keeping everything in order and making sure everyone was having a good time. If you had to do a 12 hour dive trip day with anyone, this is the crew you would want to be with. They were very knowledgeable about the dive sites and sea life. Erika and Doug made sure to give us very thorough briefings before diving. I felt very safe and confident diving with them. Additionally, Captain Andrew was great at communicating with the divers and crew to ensure we were in and out of the water safely. During surface intervals he gave us tours of Lehua, pointed out different birds and sea life, and took us into some rock crevasses.

The Seasport boat is wonderful. There were about 10 divers on my trip and it never felt overcrowded. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. My favorite feature of the boat was the two freshwater hoses with warm water for rinsing off between dives (felt amazing!!!)

I very highly recommend this trip and dive shops or diving off Kauai.

Second trip to Kauai and we of course returned to Seasport Divers. Our group of 7 included both snorkel and scuba divers and they nicely cared for all. They went above and beyond when a few on the boat succumbed to the rough sea. They quickly and kindly returned to the dock to let those affected get off the boat and then returned to the second dive spot.

We were happy to see familiar faces of staff from our first visit 4 years prior, which speaks well of the experience and level of professionalism at Seasport.

We remain grateful for the kind and caring service Seasport has provided us on our visits to Kauai. .

The dive guides were nice and the captain did a great job considering the water was pretty rough. I was disappointed not getting told where we were going before paying $200 to dive and by getting only warm water and chips for a snack. The guide I went with was a nice guy and did point out a lot to look at including a very rare leaf fish (lol)!!! We were lucky to see two huge turtles on the second dive.

Aloha, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that it wasn't the best experience for you. We can't predict which dive site we will go, until the divemaster sees the water. Our water is rough and unpredictable. It can change within the hours, making it hard to dive certain area. I'm sorry for the snacks, usually we have better snack. We hope to see you again underwater so you can have a better experience with us. Mahalo Seasport Divers staff

We were originally scheduled for a Friday dive but with poor weather and a chat about safety we were shifted over to a Saturday dive. We really liked that safety was the most paramount part of the day. My husband had done SCUBA activities previously so he was ready and excited. I was unable to dive due to personal holdups, but the staff and crew were so great and adjusted me to boat rider/snorkel so I could still participate in the day. It was a great experience that is making my husband want to go on more trips just so he can SCUBA more!
