Akana and Kamalei were our tour guides. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and personable. Akana told us a lot of historical facts about the sights we were seeing, while Kamalei was entertaining and bringing a lot of energy to the atmosphere. We booked the 7:30am tour which allowed us to see a lot of dolphins and even be in the middle of a pod. It was an overall great experience.
Unfortunately, we were not able to go snorkeling or go into the sea caves due to the large swells (completely understandable and out of their control). It was disappointing because that's the main attraction that we wanted to explore. Luckily, we will be booking in August to go on this tour again. It's just a shame to have to pay twice for the same tour.

We took the 7:30am beach landing excursion with Mads and Jessie in February. Of course, the scenery was gorgeous but Mads and Jessie really made the experience shine. They were personable, knowledgable, and entertaining. We were fortunate that local wildlife cooperated as Mads and Jessie were able to spot animals in the distance and then move in closer. We were able to see dolphins, sea turtles, whales, and a seal on our trip. They were also very skilled at handling the Zodiac as the wind did kick up and caused some waves. While we got wet I always felt like they were in control and we were safe. In addition, Mads backed us into some sea caves with impressive expertise. I would recommend this trip to anyone able to make it! Add the beach excursion if you can, Mads and Jessie had knowledge of local geology and history that really added to the day. As part of the beach excursion we walked through a Hawaiian fishing village and the information shared was very interesting. Blue Ocean is one of only three tour groups able to visit the fishing village and they shared that their team also helps to preserve and upkeep the area throughout the year. This demonstrated their care for the island above and beyond that of a company focused on tours, which we appreciated.

Mads and Mana rocked!
Literally (the boat) and figuratively (Blue Ocean Adventure Tours)-- they literally made the tour of the Nepali coast the highlight of our Kauai trip. We booked a private boat (11 in our group) and spent the morning to afternoon out at sea looking for dolphins, sea turtles, and snorkeling. I highly recommend the blue ocean adventures crew and especially under the fun, karaoking, dad-joking guidance of Mads and Mana. I can't recommend this group enough.
Mads has a great handle on the weather and water conditions allowing us to fit everything we wanted to see in without trailing in long lines of boats to see each attraction. Our group loved singing along with Mana the whole trip and getting the opportunity to see the beauty of the Kauai through their eyes. Thank you for a memorable trip!

I’ve been on a few tours to napali coast throughout the years but I’ve never had such and amazing/unforgettable experience than I did with Blue Ocean . We had captain Kalen Kimura as our tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable about his surrounding area . I’ve never seen so much whales in my life it’s like he knew exactly where to go . And we seen more dolphins than the entire sea world roster . Hands down the highlight of my trip 10/10 recommend adding this to your trip to kauai

Honestly, one of the most fun days I've had in my life. The views were spectacular. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have small children or neck/back issues. We did the beach landing and for just $30 more than the snorkel trip you get so much more value for your dollar and (weather permitting) still snorkel! We went in winter so the waves were big and the water choppy. In summer they said the waters are significantly smoother so you get a totally different experience. Danny was our captain and AJ was our crewmate and they were both so kind and fun to be around. Do yourself a favor, and BOOK THIS!

We did the Napali Coast Adventure tour (led by our amazing captain Kalen and Becs) and it totally surpassed are already-high expectations. It was by FAR the coolest, most exciting thing we did on the island all week (and we also did a kayaking/waterfall hike tour, a firedancing class, a surf class, etc.) The weather was perfect; the music and the vibes were on point; Kalen/Becs did an amazing job of making sure we were all safe but also having a blast. We saw spinner dolphins jumping right next to our raft; we did donuts and went in and out of incredible sea caves; we snorkeled with fish and sea turtles... it was truly an adventure and everything we could have hoped for and more. Note: would definitely NOT recommend for those who aren't prepared to be on an aggressively visceral & physically demanding boat ride! This isn't some quiet/calm sunset sail -- this is for folks ready and willing to get wet, hang on tight, get jostled/bounced around by waves, etc.

Our knowledgeable boat captains, Mads and Jessie, were absolutely fabulous during our excursion with Blue Ocean Adventure Tours. While enjoying the breathtaking view of Na Pali coast and swimming off the boat, they secured that everyone was comfortable and having the best time of their life. You could tell that Mads and Jessie love what they do and share their passion with their party on the boat.

Our family of 3 including a 10 year old did the Na Pali Beach Landing Adventure tour on Jan 6. Our captain, Mads, and crew member,Jessie, were amazing, fun and very informative. We saw several whales close to the raft, a school of spinner dolphins and sea turtles. We were fortunate to have a very clear day that wasn’t too rough that allowed us to enter some sea caves, enjoy the views of the coast and do some snorkelling at our stop. The beach stop lunch was delicious and the trail to see the ancient fishing village was interesting and educational. It was also a nice mid trip break off the boat to relax a little (especially with a child).
The raft was able to cut through the waves easily (kudos to Captain Mads) that at times were fairly big on the trip home as the winds picked up; however, none of us ever felt seasick (even though two is us are susceptible to this). The rides in the yachts and catamarans looked much rougher as they went up and over each wave and we were glad that we went on the raft which was also really fun!!!
We all really enjoyed the trip and would highly recommend Blue Ocean Adventures. The views of the landscape and animals were stunning! Thanks again for a great experience!

I booked this excursion for my family as a Christmas present and was extremely pumped to go on this tour. The experience I had was the most memorable part of my vacation and something I will treasure forever! If you are a person that seeks adventure and are not prone to sea-sickness, this is the excursion for you. The small zodiac boats are thick tubes around the edges to sit on with a sturdy rope to hold onto, as well as a rope on the floor to secure your feet under (1 if you are daring :). There are also three seats in the back for older passengers and/or people who are feeling sea sick, so that is a nice option where people can rotate- my 73 year old dad really appreciated the back rest!
The trip started with a drive to the Na Pali coast from the South end of the island. Within the first 30 minutes, we saw dozens of spinner dolphins swimming and jumping out of the water all around our boat! We drove with them for several minutes and we were able to get so many amazing videos. This was the most incredible thing I have ever experienced on the ocean.
Our captain Jon was fantastic at handling the boat, it was unreal how skilled he was in the 10 foot waves that we were experiencing once we got on the Na Pali coast. He also was able to back into a cave during the wavy conditions, it was amazing to see him drive the boat while Jessie taught us about the cave. Because it was the winter in Kauai (December 28, 2019) the waves were too high for us to snorkel safely, but we were able to swim at one point and get a picture jumping off the front of the boat. Jessie assisted Jon on the boat as well as accommodated every passenger and made them feel at home. Jessie also cut up some delicious pineapple for us and gave us snacks and soft drinks. She was so much fun to chat with and her vibes were amazing! Jon also had great vibes and played the best music!!! I really hope to come back in the summer months so that I can get the full snorkel and cave experience with Blue Ocean Adventures Tours! Thank you Jon and Jessie!!

We went on the Beach Landing Tour with Captain Mads and Makana in early March and it was FANTASTIC. We were trying to go on the afternoon tour, but the seas are still too rough. The company gave us a call well in advanced to let us know the afternoon tour we booked will be a No Go and helped us switch to the morning. We were also indecisive about which day to switch to, but they moved us to the morning tour that was already confirmed to go.
My friend who gets motion sickness was nervous beforehand and took a Bonnie that morning and was perfectly fine. Our captain did a great job keeping the boat moving to minimize feeling the motion of the seas.
I have done this tour in the past with another company. If you are debating who to book it with, I highly recommend you go with Blue Ocean Adventures. They have excellent service and a fantastic crew.
We were able to go in multiple sea caves, see dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and a variety of fish while snorkeling. Lunch was provided and was good. Make sure you do the beach landing tour. It was nice to walk around for an hour and sit on land. Makana showed us a historic village on the beach as well.

Does anyone have any experiences with the power catamaran? How many people do you take? Did you have a great time?
Written April 24, 2022
Our group was 2 couples, all active retirees. We went in February; power catamaran load that morning was 22 passengers, not including crew. We had a blast; the winter swells were 15 ft; we saw whales, dolphins, turtles and the scenery was rugged and majestic. We liked the power catamaran for it’s smooth ride and we could move around taking pictures; unlike the smaller zodiacs, where we saw them holding on for dear life, skimming over the bumpy waves. Blue Ocean Adventures was the best; excellent, professional, super friendly and so much fun!

Hi there-
I'm having a hard time deciding between the morning vs afternoon raft tour--I really love photos and good lighting so part of me really wants to take advantage of that golden hour opportunity, but, curious for those who've done this afternoon option, if the water was choppier/if you didn't see as much wildlife? I heard those are the drawbacks for potentially doing afternoon instead of morning...and I'm having a hard time deciding if golden hour/sunset lighting is worth potentially rougher waters/less wildlife sightings.
Any insight would be appreciated! (I know there's no 'wrong' decision here, but would love to hear from someone who's done it and if the afternoon lighting photos were worth it!)
Thanks,
Alyssa

Morning-way less wind, less choppy conditions. Trust me the morning is choppy enough!

How is this tour for senior citizens? Would you recommend it?
Written April 15, 2021
It is quite rough, it is 3 hrs of holding on for dear life against the wind. They tell you up front if you have Any back or health issues not to go. I’m in my 40s and I’m feeling quite sore today from our ride yesterday! If you are in great condition and have a good sea stomach it’s a fun adventure!

passengers must be over the age of 5. They also must be wearing a life vast throughout the entire trip if they are between the age of 5-10

This looks amazing, but I’m prone to motion sickness...is the boat ride rough?
Written December 9, 2019
The boats travel at VERY fast speeds which is the key reason why people rarely get sick. Catamarans are bigger and slower and that big content rock makes people alot more sick.
Written March 7, 2020
I think it was. Having a Hawaiin lunch on land to break up your time on the boat, getting to explore the beach (where we saw a ton of resting sea turtles), and learning about the old fishing village was really cool. Plus it was one of the prettier spots, and really puts into perspective just how massive the sea cliffs are.

I’m prone to sea sickness. How rough are the waters the beginning of October?
Written August 25, 2019
We had calm waters and even then I wouldn’t recommend this trip for you if you are prone to sea sickness. Pick a trip with a larger boat.
Written August 31, 2019
I’m interested in an afternoon tour (Napali Coast with Beach Landing) for better photo lighting. Is the water generally rougher for the afternoon? Any other pros and cons? Thanks, Eric
Written August 18, 2019
Hi Eric,
I think it depends on the time of year and frankly, the weather that day. I suggest calling a few days ahead of time and asking what the folks at Blue Ocean Adventure Tours think about the weather.
Have a wonderful time!
