Our family had a wonderful 7 hour customized hiking tour with Karen. She is very knowledgeable. We saw some beautiful hidden beaches & she packed everything we needed to have a perfect day trip. Highly recommend booking a tour with her!

This was my second visit to Kauai and my husband's first.. Before we left for our '3 Week Kauai Dream Vacation', I did quite a bit of research and had a fairly good idea of the things to do that held an interest for us - one of which was to hire a guide to get us started and show us 'the lay of the land.' Having read many wonderful reviews about Kauai Eden Tours and Karen, I decided to go with her. It was the best day of our vacation!! Karen has the enthusiasim likened to that of a 'kid in a candy store' and the energy to match it. She truly LOVES her island home and this came through in everything we did. We sang songs together, including the theme song from "Gilligan's Island' , on our approach to that famous location, we swam in the beautiful, warm water, we hiked a trail to a 'secret spot', sampled some exotic Hawaiian fruit ,took great photos, (including some 'glamor shots' with coconuts and grass skirts) - all in all, just an absolutely delightful day!! What are you waiting for? Go and spend a day with Karen...you will love it !!

My wife and I are in our seventies and love cruising. Some years back we cruised the Hawaiian Islands and spent a day in Nawiliwili visiting all the major tourist attractions. During our February return to Kauai we wished to do something different.

We booked a custom-designed private tour with Kauai Eden Tours owned and operated by Karen Tilley (Canadians would recognize that name). She designed exactly what we wanted; a tour behind the scenes looking at how people live on Kauai and what makes the locals love their island. We went from Nawiliwili up the East coast of the island all the way to Princeville including a walk through a beach grove and a lunch by the sea. We even took lots of pictures at the site of the filming of “Gilligan’s Island”.

Karen told us that she did private hiking tours as well as more common visits to the major attractions of the island. All in all, an excellent private tour although more expensive than a group tour bus.

For anyone looking to see Kauai from a "local" point of view.....this is the tour company for you! Karen Tilley and her husband Jay run Kauai Eden Tours and will personalize a tour to your specifications. If you like nature, there are hikes, waterfalls, a bird sanctuary, and whale spotting. Karen is an expert on the flora and fauna of the island. If you are more into seeing all the "sights" of Kauai, Karen and Jay can do that as well. You are able to specify exactly how you would like to spend your precious time on the Garden Island. Karen will adjust all tours to the mobility level of the customers. We returned last night after spending the day with Karen on Saturday and I can't begin to tell you everything we did, saw, and ate!!!! From the fresh fruit (passion fruit, banana, pineapple, and papaya) smoothie at Banana Joe's to the exotic fruit found at a local farmers market, we enjoyed every morsel. Karen supplies a wonderful sandwich, fruit, water, snacks, and fruit juice as part of her tour. Photo opportunities abound, and Karen is happy to stop and let you "capture the moment". It was such a great overview of the island, it allows you to note the places you may want to revisit later in your stay on the island. I would highly recommend taking this tour on one of the first days that you arrive. It will give you a better perspective on distances and times it takes to get places. You also get a booklet that Karen has written detailing the "best places to go" on Kauai for shopping, restaurants, attractions, best beaches, etc. The last pages are blank for your personal notetaking......I filled them all! She is just a treasure trove of valuable and fun information. And then when you get home, a CD comes in the mail with pictures taken during your tour. This is one first class operation, and I'm glad I got to see some "inner Kauai" with Karen. I'll definitely be back for one of her hiking tours. Like Nike says, JUST DO IT and tell her Linda sent you! :)) I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this great tour. ALOHA and MAHALO for reading my review!

Shannah and I were married on our Hawaii vacation, and we wanted to have a special private tour on Kauai to celebrate our honeymoon. We decided to spend the day with Karen Tilley, a private trip advisor and tour guide (Kauai Eden Tours, www.KauaiEdenTours.com). After a few conversations prior to our trip, Karen customized a wonderful tour that exceeded our expectations. Our day began by visiting a local farm where we got to try exotic fruits which we have never heard of before! We also stopped along the way to pick fruit growing in the wild and to take pictures of tropical flowers. My top request was to visit exquisite beaches and we did! The beaches that Karen guided us to were incredible. The ocean was turquoise, flat, and safe for swimming, the views were outstanding, and in most cases, we had the entire beaches to ourselves. We also had a great picnic lunch at yet another beautiful beach, that was also a magical place. Karen took great pictures of us and we plan to use them in our wedding journal. Karen’s local Kauai knowledge and insights allowed us to experience the best of Kauai and we highly recommend going on her private Kauai tour.

I found Eden Tours online before we made our trip to Kauai in July 2011. After several e-mail conversations and a phone conversation with Karen, we decided on a tour of several beaches, the settings of a Gilligan's island pilot and some light hiking. Karen provided a lot of valuable insight into Kauai - places to go, places to eat, local culture, flora, fauna etc... She guided us on a light to medium hike to Sea Lodge beach where we had the beach to ourselves (except for a sleeping monk seal on the beach). We spotted a snowdrift eel while snorkeling as well as other fish etc... Karen took some great pictures of our family and provided a great lunch for us too. Our tour included sights mainly on the north and northeastern end of the island. We also went to Anini and Moloaa beaches as well as doing a couple other things. On Moloa beach, we opened up coconuts, saw where Gilligan's island's pilot episode was filmed and my wife and niece dressed up and did the hula. We all posed as the crew of the SS Minnow too. Overall, we all had a great time and learned a lot of things about the island.

I went on the most amazing hike with Karen Tilley. We saw a mama monk seal and her adorable baby. They were so cute! It was priceless. And the swim was in this clear blue/green water that made it hard to leave. Karen was a great tour guide, pointing out various plants and their uses and telling us about movies that were filmed nearby. I highly recommend Eden Tours!

I had just one day to explore Kauai and wanted to see the Napali Coast which made finding a tour guide difficult because many of them weren't prepared to alter their usual routes and destinations. Fortunately, I found Karen Tilley who went out of her way to arrange a perfect itinerary.
Karen picked me up from the airport in Lihue, drove me to key, must see spots like Waimea Canyon and a lovely beach for lunch and then came on a cruise to the Napali Coast with me at her own expense! Karen arranged a local discount with Blue Dolphin charters and we sailed off into the sunset! The cruise is sometimes a rough ride and the boat occasionally can't make it to Napali but the conditions proved ideal and we saw some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. Kauai is a stunning location that is often used as a Hollywood backdrop.
Shortly after arriving back at Port Allen, Karen drove me all the way back to Lihue in plenty of time to make the last flight back to Honolulu.
A personalised tour will always be more expensive but for something as special as this destination it was well worth it.
Karen is a friendly, fun and warm person-the ideal tour guide.

It was a pleasure meeting you and spending a day of your vacation with you. Our Tour of Waimea Canyon and the Napali boatcruise was spectacular in so many ways. I look forward to your return visit to Kauai.

Been on the fence about writing this review. Karen is a lovely woman, but disorganized. Our day was very expensive and not what I hoped for at all. I made it very clear during the reservation process that we did not want to hang out at the beach (we live on another island), but we wanted a tour of interesting sights and photo ops. I should have asked for her to send us an itinerary ahead of time. I booked because of her other great reviews, perhaps she was having an off day or we had a misunderstanding. In the future I will always ask for a proposed itinerary when booking a private tour.

Thank you for sharing your feelings about your private tour. I appreciate your kinds words about me. It is disappointing to hear that someone did not have the best possible time. We did work out an Itinerary in our correspondence and I did my best to fulfill your requests: we did not make it to the furthest location which was "Puff the Magic Dragon" and that I regret. On our day we were faced with numerous external factors including heavy rain in the Hanalei north shore area, and traffic congestion and I wanted to leave plenty of drive time to get back to the ship. For the future, I may decide to try to reach the farthest hoped for destination first and then make our way back. I am sorry that your experience was not all that you had hoped for.

Karen and Jay picked us up from the cruise port and knowing that we only had a day to go around Kauai, we hurried off to see the different sites the couple planned for us. We got a glimpse of the beaches, waterfalls, the lighthouse, small towns, and even had a wonderful picnic lunch! We had a great time getting to know Karen, telling stories about each other, the sites, local culture, even singing along to her magnificent voice! Appreciated Karen stopping for photo ops since she knew we love taking pictures and introducing my cousin to beachcombing. She also took care of us very well, making sure we had snacks and replenishing our bottles of water once finished. Hoping for another trip back...this time with the weather cooperating because we didn't get to snorkel/wade in the inviting waters!
