My wife and I took the afternoon Kayak and Hiking adventure to Secret Falls last Saturday, even though the forecast was for a very nasty weather day. Growing up in Oregon we were not detered, however the forecast was correct and I would estimate 1-2 inches of rain during the hike with wind gusts up to 20-25 mph...but it was still worth it and I think my wife loved it even more than me. Rocky, a native of Kauai led our group of 9 paddlers/hikers and gave us the history of the area along with carrying in our sandwiches and snacks we ate at the fall. The walking sticks he provided were very useful. and the encouraged us to be careful and go slow. Scenery was beautiful, the falls spectacular, and the the 5 hours rewarding. Wear water socks, and pack your items in the waterproof bag/backpack they provide. Meets and starts/ends at the Wailua River Marina.

Aloha Asitis, In every storm there is a little bit of sunshine! We do monitor the weather very ...very carefully and only go if we know the rain gauges are dropping. Guiding becomes that more challenging when the weather conspires and it is a credit to Rocky/Pohaku that he guided you all safely and as well left you informed on the Wailua River complex cultural history. We do encourage clients to avail themselves of walking stick and to embrace the mud. Some of my best outings have been in blustery weather. Thanks for sharing and stay paddling and hiking.

My girlfriend and I did the - Blue Lagoon Paddle and Snorkel | Hanalei river paddle (our overall large group ended up pairing into tandem ocean kayaks) and it was amazing. Our main guide Jay and new guide Nick started us off with kayaking and safety instructions and provided drybags, lunch, lifejackets, and snorkeling gear. We warmed up with a short paddle up river and along the way Jay informed us of historical, cultural, and biological factoids. Afterwards we kayaked down river and into the ocean whilst close to the shore and landed for lunch and free snorkeling time. We saw many different species of fish and were fortunate enough to see an endangered sea turtle as well! Afterwards we kayaked back to the landing, put all of our gear back onto the trailer and we were dropped off at the parking lot. Jay was a font of knowledge in all the local questions I had for him and his respect for his job and the land was palpable. We will definitely book with them again in the future when we return!

Aloha Oliver, Your review is A+ and gives folks a genuine idea of what our Hanalei Blue Lagoon Paddle & Snorkel tour is about and what is involved. Thanks? Jay not only guides but also runs our sea kayak programs both in Hanalei Bay, Na Pali, and our South Shore whale-watching tours. When I hang out with Jay, I invariably, as you did, learn something. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to exchanging wakes with you once again. A hui hou, Micco

The Wailua river sacred falls tour is worth doing. The first part is kayaking and it could get hot in the open sun. Luckily for us it did rain to cool us off. The next part is going through the wilderness with bushes right next to you and going through waist deep water and uneven rocks on the bottom. Most people were only wearing a bathing suit and a t shirt. I wonder having done this whether a ultra light weight quick dry pant may be beneficial as the bushes do touch your legs quite often.
I realized the most important part is what you wear on the feet. I wore the water shoes, however there were many times when it was quite slippery so something that has more grip at the bottom will be better. Also cover up any open cuts as you will be going through water and bushes.
You also have to climb some area which could also be slippery. There is a boardwalk which helps for part of the journey.
It was wonderful to see the waterfall and again there are uneven rocks on the bottom so be careful and have the proper shoes.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the local vegetations. This was quite an adventure going through wilderness and almost like getting a survival training if lost in the jungle!

Aloha Pat, Glad you enjoyed the adventure. Thanks for a wonderful review that gives folks an idea of what is involved paddling and hiking to the Sacred/Secret Falls. It's a jungle out there and we are there to help you safely negotiate the challengers while keeping you informed and safe. Stay safe and hope for your return so we can get one more "dot". A hui hou, Micco/Head Guide *And yes…lightweight/quick drying longer pants could be a good idea for some.

Izzy was our guide. She is very knowledgeable and her energy is unmatched! I love the most is her personality, the best tour guide there is! This is our first activity on the island. I’m glad we had met her because not only she gave us history and information during the tour she also shared food ideas to check out. Our group is a bunch of foodies and totally appreciated that!

I really like the kayaking and the short hike to the falls! 2 activities in one tour! Definitely wear shoes with good grip as the path is muddy!

They provide you with sandwiches of your choice(upon booking), chips, drinks, and cookies! Dry bags for your stuff and Izzy found us walking sticks which helped A LOT.

Eating our lunch by the falls and with the chickens are a treat. And of-course don’t forget to pose in front of the falls for some instagram worthy content. Izzy knows all the angles!

Overall, highly recommended this tour!

Aloha Maps5, Will have to ask Izzy about places to eat. Yes, our Sacred/Secret Falls tour is a nice combination of upper body/arms and lower body/legs. Thanks for a nice and informative review and for reminding folks to wear sturdy shoes. Stay well and active. A hui hou, Micco

Perfect day for a not too strenuous activity. Two hours on the river seeing lush vegetation and a personable guide, Harrison, provided interesting facts about the island. The ice cold pineapple waiting at the end was a wonderful way to finish. Thank you!!

Aloha Jennifer, During the shorter winter days our last tour of the day is our Wailua River Paddle (no hiking) is a mellow approach to the river and a tad more family than our paddle and hike to the falls. Your guide Harrison as you leaned is the icing on the cake that compliments some lovely scenery. Stay well and active in the new year. Thanks for sharing Micco

A very nice morning adventure for my husband and I to get away from our larger group. Paddle was easy and the hike was basically flat. Most of the way is on a boardwalk. Saw maybe 40 people during the whole morning, had the waterfall to ourselves for a few minutes while maybe 20 people sat on the rocks nearby before heading back. Kayaks with one adult and one small child in the front seemed to struggle against the wind … kids don’t paddle! Would do this excursion again.

Aloha, Glad your experience with us and the paddle and hike was positive. The board walk has not always been and it’s installment has if not gentrified the experience , at least made the trail, which can be muddy, safer and less challenging for some. We don’t take small kids on our tour and recommend rentals to come back when your munchkin can paddle you. Thanks for the 5 “dots”. A hui hou, MIcco

What an amazing trip. Relaxing, fun, not too strenuous, ends on a beautiful shaded beach with great snorkeling. Harrison was a fountain of knowledge about flora, fauna, Kauai culture, history, and Julia Roberts.

Aloha Albert, Welcome to our really "secret" tour, that is, the Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel. Not as well known as our Wailua Sacred/Secret Falls tour, but definitely panoramically superior above and under water. I did not know your guide Harrison was an expert on Julia; will have to ask him. Thanks for the "5 dots" and hope to sea you back. A hui hou, Micco

Alealani was an amazing guide! We loved her. Kayaking to the hike, which has been upgraded and safer with the planks installed. Waterfall is very refreshing and then kayak back again. Great family outing. Thank you Alealani ❤️

Aloha Tanya, Great that you enjoyed Alealani. Sadly she off to other adventures. Thanks for your kind words. And yes the State putting in the planks has made the pathway move civilized and more doable by most. Stay well and enjoy the family during these Holidays. Melé Kalikimaka, Micco

We did the 10 mile Napali coast kayak trip leaving from Polihale. This is NOT for out of shape inexperienced kayakers. The company does a good job making that point when you sign up!!! We had quite the wind that morning, so we didn’t make it to Miloli but is was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!! We had Mike and Mike as our guides, thank you for an awesome day!!!!!!

Aloha, Glad you enjoyed the tour, in spite of winds not allowing you to get to Miloli'i to lunch. As you learned, even when we one does not reach "summit" the journey to can be rewarding. Hope you saw the morning dolphins and turtles. Thanks for taking the time to share and come back for another attempt or go on our wore challenging approach from Ha'ena. A hui hou, Micco

We did the Wailua River Sacred Falls paddle and hike with Logan as our guide. It was so great! Logan was the best guide anyone could have asked for. He told us all about the island and Hawaii while we were on the kayak and the hike. We stopped a few places and he explained what we were seeing. He even has a couple of birds he digs up worms for and we got to see them hang out and grab some food. The trails were a bit challenging at times for anyone that may have knee issues but we all made it to the waterfall. The views were spectacular and the workout was worth it!!! A+ highly recommend this company!!!!

Go Logan! Logan does it again; he charms, informs and keep everyone safe. Seriously, thanks for taking time to describe the tour and that Logan continues to shine. Logan is also a delight to work. We scored when the Fate's sent him our way. Stay paddling and hiking. A hui hou, Micco
