It was a dark and stormy morning...I had signed up for the Sunrise Workshop and awoke to blinding rain. I was a bit apprehensive. Patrick was amazing. The rain let up and Patrick brought me to several spots that were amazing and perfectly suited to the weather. I'm an intermediate photographer and got some great shots. Patrick is a great teacher and I really learned a great deal. I've done a lot of photo workshops and this was among the best! Highly recommended!!!

I knew it was going to be a great activity on my vacation when Patrick asked me what I was hoping to gain from the experience, and what equipment I was shooting with. Patrick was so very patient and keen to developing my skills during the private session all the while taking me to amazing sites and getting FANTASTIC photos!. I would definitely recommend the private session! My only regret is that I didn't book him more than once (or twice, or three times) during my vacation. Can't wait to do it again!

We did a sunset night shoot. I learned so much and couldn't believe how Mallory worked so hard with us to get the perfect shot. We were in Poipu for sure set and then it started to rain so we headed north to beat the rain. We ended up near the Lihue airport and took pictures of a lighthouse and the night sky.
, this was just amazing. If you have any thought of doing a photo tour please use Kauai Adventure they were so helpful in every way.

I attended the one on one custom private workshop (10 hrs!) and had an amazing time shooting with Patrick! He is a super nice guy, a brilliant photographer and very knowledgeable not only about camera settings but also about the best places to shoot in Kauai! I also did the post production with him which was fabulous! Anybody who signs up for the workshops must include the Post Production - it can really take your pictures to another level!

Myself and a friend recently took a Lightroom class with KAPOW. Patrick was very accommodating to our schedule and very interesting to talk to about photography and his travels. I can't say enough good about this class! He spent 3 hours with us editing photos individually, teaching us the basics as well as tips and tricks he likes to use. If you are looking to make your photos "pop" this class and business is phenomenal!

Thank you Kelsey! It was a delight to have you for the workshop and I'm so glad you enjoyed it and learned so much! The post-production workshop is one that I think is just as important if not more-so than any of our shooting classes. Thanks again Kelsey! -Patrick

I booked this tour for my 20 year old daughter. She is a beginner/intermediate level photographer. We rented a camera from Patrick and were glad we did. Mallory was the instructor and she took us to several spots that were off the beaten path, literally! I recommend this on your first day so you can use what you learned throughout your trip for some incredible professional photos.

I’ve been an avid photographer for eleven years now and make part time income from my architectural side business. When planning for my vacation in Kauai I understood the challenges of finding remote off-the-road photo venues most tourists never see. That is why I look for and research available businesses offering photo workshops in my chosen destinations. For Kauai I choose Kauai Adventure Photography. Mallory was assigned as my guide and tutor. Mal, as she prefers, is an adept photo professional with an impressive portfolio of her own. Her wanderlust is remarkably documented on her own site. I signed up for all three sessions. The first I was introduced to a rocky overlook for a spectacular sunrise by the Lihue airport where I got incredible shots of the sunrise and Lighthouse. The second session we attempted to capture a sunset by the Waimea State Recreation Pier followed by a night shoot at Spouting Horn. The third session Mal took me to Maki-Wehi Point for a wonderful sunset opportunity. What is most welcoming is learning from Mal’s experience. Although I’m well adept with the camera, she offered excellent advise and was always on point to ensure my exposure and focus were on the mark. If I had any regrets it would be with the brief period of peak light Hawaii offers. Spectacular moments are brief and the weather conditions are not always ideal. Although I captured some spectacular moments others would certainly benefit from a retake at a later opportunity. My introduction to our off the normal path location for Spouting Horn was beneficial to a follow up sunrise session on my own on my last day in Kauai. Without Kauai Adventure Photo and Mallory I certainly wouldn’t have these special experiences to share and remember.

I have been a hobbyist photographer for more than 35 years and would recommend these workshops for anyone looking to improve or refresh their photography skills. Mallory was great to work with, we covered a wide range of topics from simple to complex and visited several parts of the island. I’m looking forward to doing another workshop on my next trip to Kauai.
Thank you,
Scott

I did the private day-long workshop with Mallory and would highly recommend it. There was a good breakdown of time spent learning how to use my camera, which settings to use when, and actually composing and taking photos. Mallory has a fantastic eye and I really liked her teaching style. Also, she's a lot of fun to be around! My images exceeded my expectations and it's nice to know that you will definitely bring home lots of great vacation photos from these workshops!

Where to start.. I was fortunate enough to have a private workshop with Mallory Roe only a week ago, and what an experience it was. I have done a fair few workshops over the years, including some on other islands in Hawaii. This workshop by far was the best ever. Mal was constantly giving tips and tricks and checking composition and focus. Mal took me to some unbelievable locations. I can't recommend this highly enough. From booking to finishing the workshop, the service and level of care was unlike anything else I have seen. Eric was super nice and helpful in choosing which course, asking what gear I was using and even asking me to send pics that I have already taken so they can prepare where to take me and what I was capable of.
I would honestly book another private session when I return and can only hope I get to deal with Eric and Mal again. Please do yourself a favour, book it now!

How far are you located from Hanalei?
Written January 14, 2016
They are based in Kapaa about 20 miles from Hanalei. If enough people at a place want to do a tour they may come to wherever that group is and set out from there.

Aloha Ryan, thanks for your question and interest in our workshops! We actually go all over the island! No two workshops are ever exactly the same. It depends on the season, weather, surf, class and your interests! We visit waterfalls, lighthouses, canyons, cliffs, seasides you name it. If you have something specific you want to shoot we will bring you there! Hope to see you soon. Aloha! -Patrick
